That would mean that the pre-amp is working as this XLR comes out of the final stage of the pre amp. Look at Page 14...... www.ampeg.com/pdf/manuals/ba_om.pdf Looking at the diagram there is a mute between the pre-and power stages - it could be something as simple as an iffy mute switch. Could be input stages to power amp. The diagram shows two separate power amps with limiters one to the tweeter one to the 2x 10 so its unlikely to be 'the' limiter as there are two although they might be on the same bit of circuit board. Again, suggest you take it to a service tech.

If you look at the block diagram in the manual you can see that the circuit is the pre-amp, then a set of separate buffers for Aux in, out, headphones, the a limiter before the power amplifier. SO.......when its doing its not working thing.... 1. If you plug in to the headphone socket do you hear anything? 2.If you plug a signal into the aux in or effects return do you get any sound? 3. If you crank everything up full without a guitar plugged in do you get any hiss? IF: 1. You can hear through the headphone socket and not the speaker its the limiter or the power amp 2. If you hear no hiss at all then the power amp input stage is probably faulty 3. If you hear hiss out of the speaker but no signal sound when plugged into the input or the aux in/ effects return its probably the limiter 4. If you hear sound through the speaker when you plug in through the effect return but not when you plug into the main input then the pre-amp is the issue 5. If you get a signal out of the line out (that comes from the final stage of the pre amp) then its the Limiter or power amp. Whatever the cause its something that is 'latching' when its hot. That sounds like a small component failure which a decent amp tech should be able to sort for you. It could be something a simple as a bias resistor breaking down or a small transistor or diode. Its worth taking to a good local repair man, should not be an expensive thing.

Can I just say firstly that 100% under the law you are entitled to replacement goods or your money back if the goods are defective. The seller in this case GAK is entitled t a reasonable opportunity to repair the goods and return them to you. The operative word is reasonable. You bought these goods in the UK you did not order them specially from overseas. I they cannot effect the repair in the UK this is not reasonable. The Sale of Goods Act is clear. You are entitled to goods which are fit for purpose and are of merchantable quality. GAK must honour the law. They are banking on you not knowing your rights because overseas returns hit their profit margin and cashflow. When people are unreasonable to me I get unreasonable back. In short you need to go in the store and shout. Yes shout loudly. No swearing just keep saying that you are being conned, that they are refusing to give you your money back. If the demand you leave sit on the floor and keep shouting whilst the shop empties. Keep shouting until they bring you new boxed one or give you your money back. You are dong nothing wrong. Have someone in store recording on a phone. They will probably get snotty, so record it. I you don't get your way, leave and come back an hour later. Once you have emptied the shop 2 or 3 times, they will give you that replacement. I have done this many times. It always,always works.

Nah, I have a 67 B15. They are heavy, awkward, the will only tolerate passive basses, they blow fuses, they have separate power supplies.......and so on. However, the description of them as limited is wrong. These amps were designed to have bass, guitar and other instruments plugged into them. I have a selection of P's & J's ranging from early Pre CBS through to modern. You know when you see a review where the person says, yeah this amp is really transparent, every guitar sound just like itself. Well they have never plugged into a 50 year old B15n. If I put my 65 P on flats and a mute through it roll of the top and its sounds Jamerson. Plug in a 62 J and bang there it is bright ans a button and perfect, a 66 J poppy and bright. You barely touch the EQ just roll it almost all the way up for everything and tweak back the treble. These guys got it right a half a century ago. A B15 will give you a Jameson sound cos mine does aided by an old P, flats and a bit of sponge :-) No this isn't a gigging amp its not load enough and it has no DI but that sound is just joyous. A good mic for recording and away you go. Want one for your living room to love and enjoy you won't do much better. You can pick them up for as little as £1500 so be patient. Its worth the wait.

Over the past couple of years I have bought and sold, found what I like and what I don't. Its been very helpful. Even the rarest things come up for sale now and again. Makes me wonder what are the real keepers? What don't you see. Forget price, prestige or scarcity, which models, amps, just don't come up for sale. What would have to be pried from your cold, dead, bass players fingers?

That instrument isn't pretty but its an impressive sound. I don;t think that there is anything out there much closer. Rob Allens are the next best thing in my view but they don't have that same attenuated DB sound.

Just be better than anyone else. Your job is to play and perform. Work hard , respect your band and the fact that they may have differing views. If you can't do that it's not about being a musician its about your own problems.
