  1. is it as purchased - ie one algorithm or did you download more?
  2. Lollipops, dots and binding type bump for this rare and lovely instrument........ This is a transition year for Fender, especially the Jazz Bass. CBS had taken over the company a year before and was already implementing some big design changes. The Jazz now had a bound neck and soon after would have the faux pearl block inlays too. What makes this year special is the Jazz Bass changes and the fact that the quality control was still high with Leo Fender remaining as a consultant and many of the original builders still on staff.

  5. PM's replied Weight confirmed at 3.977Kg
  6. This is my all original 1966 Fender Jazz bass. Purchased from the US a few years ago, I have decided to mover her on. She is all original and as far as I can tell down to the last screw. The finish is clean and bright and the bass has that big bold 66 funky tone. She has a slight buzz on the 15th fret on the G which I could sort out with a bit of fret work but never felt the need as I use her as a funk bass. She has a few nicks in the body but nothing major - I have posted pictures to show but she is very clean all over. This bass was an under the bed find and the case smells a little of that but It's not nasty and I don't want to put anything in the case that might affect the finish over time. I'm open to sensible offers and will ship overseas - bear in mind this has a rosewood fret board and does not have a CITIES certificate.
  7. Much under rated and I feel wrongly so..... The Warwick LWA1000. Not the best but very well made and pop a sadowsky pre in line and its a cracker My main amp is a Demeter Minnie 800 - my reserve is the LWA - solid as a rock.
  8. I have an AER Three. They have the most astonishing bottom ends of any compact amp bar none. I mainly run with Demeter into Bergs 2x12's and 4x10 but I have to say that the AER is my go to compact. It is the one I will take to any small venue. Bass or Eub in one hand Amp Three in the other. fits in the boot of a small car on the front seat. The pre amp and controls take some mastering but once you find 'your sound' it will be as good a sound as anything out there. Less crisp than the small marks, but the bass reproduction is out of this world. If you are using a P / EUB or micing a DB they are incredibly good. They require a bit of work to master control wise and many people don't get there. The Compressor is also really useful. I actually had 2 at one point and ran them a as a stereo pair but I just couldn't use the power. One is definitely loud enough. Every conceivable back panel out and feature - and of course stupidly high quality components and build. Those two 8" drivers kick like a mule but there is not as much brightness as an aggie, berg or mark small cab. You can wind plenty of treble in and its a sealed cab so it does respond well. It just doesn't have a horn for that very top pip.
  9. 56 years between them but both incredible............

  11. I am your Grandad............
  12. I think , like most threads on this subject, has got a bit silly. Q. Oh, hello is this the room where we can argue about the merits of vintage over new guitars or vice-versa........ A. That depends on how old you are, your demographic, musical taste, political views on the acquisition of capital, experience as a musician, disposable income, personal values, ethnicity, Geo-social background, how big your house is, how many strings you like if you have a bad back, how many fingers you have or if you are mentally scarred because your evil grandad used to beat you with a 1961 Stacknob jazz bass neck that once belonged to Jaco.............. My point is that an instrument is only ever what it is. A few bits of wood and metal. That is it. It has not value save what we place on it -Its value new or old is entirely subjective. Why ask 37,000 people what is better - go play some and decide for yourself. Go try some and form an opinion - tell us what you found. We are here for you.
  13. Best sounding bass I have every played was a 1962 Jazz. Hands down over anything else. The tone, the resonance, the attack, the feel, the weight and the look. Now I would not have given a flying fudge had it have been made last year or by the WooHoo manufacturing company of Singapore. It was however hand made to the last nut by Fender in the Fullerton in 1962. These things are valued because they are good and in many cases better than good. These are the very bones of our musical history and they are irreplaceable. There are many companies making a living building 'just like Leo' basses and charging an arm and a leg for them. They aspire to create 'that sound'. Why if people have the money should they not want one? But who has that kind of money? How many people on here have cars that cost over £15k and loose 20% plus every year. Err.....go get a cheap old junk yard dog and buy a vintage Fender. Keep it for5 years and make 30% plus. Hmmm................what can the attraction be?
  14. All PM's replied to. Confirmation - the pre amp is in fact a John East, not as previously posted - my mistake. Pre amp - covers off pic added.
  15. Back from the luthier's with nice new elixir strings and a perfect set up. Action is so low I sneezed when getting it out of the case and played a minor pentatonic without even touching the neck. Sounding bell like, powerful, warm, thick.........well pretty much anything you want to dial in. its a beast - type bump.
  16. I have one as my running no 2 amp. Completely underrated. I play upright and BG and its perfect for smaller gigs when I need a small rig. These are solid and very good amps and will outlast many of their more trendy rivals.
  17. on Hold pending the usual
  18. Price is £550 + shipping - no offers no trades. Ok guys tough decision but I am parting with my Greenboy Fearless F112. I've had this bought from new a year ago from the boys at Tricky Audio. I really don't think I have to explain what this is and that they don't come up often and for good reason. This is a beast. This one is a black crackle finish with a vintage cloth over steel grille. There is no cover. There is one very small paint chip near a metal corner.
  19. Yes if its an AER Amp Three
  20. Having a full set up at the luthier and spanky new strings type bump

    Moollon JV5

Just a quick update. I took the JV5 up to my friends up at DV247 where they have an excellent guitar tech. We put the JV5 through its paces against a Fender Jazz 5 Elite. Bearing in mind that the Fender is just under £2k and the Moollon was just over 2k I would have expected there to be some level pegging. The Fender sounded dead and cold and frankly dull. The Moollon was bright, expressive with nice dynamics and a good growl when you dig in. Build quality left the Fender dead in the water. The Moollon made the Fender feel cheap and nasty. The JV has a lovely integrated deep b, the Low B on the Fender just wasn't even there. I have played the JV5 against my own 66 and 62 Jazz basses. I have to admit the 62 slab has a bit more thump and the 66 a little more open harmonic content but the JV5 delivers 100% in every other respect. It has to be in the ranks of any super jazz I've ever played and its still less than half the cost of most. It is an absolute tone monster. I'll do a video review over Xmas. I can now see why people have raved about these instruments.
