  1. I must admit I hadn't thought to dab in a bit of black acrylic paint over the screw holes. To be fair, it doesn't bother me too much -- it's all part of the 'mojo' - but now you mention it, I may well give it a try.
  2. Yep, I completely understand and, in fact, my Stingray fretless has had the tort guard firmly in place for a long time and will probably remain so. I know this may sound a tad silly to some folks, but in some cases it's almost like playing a new or at least a different instrument and I might even play it a little differently. Yeah, I know, it's all in the mind! Personally, I may just like the idea that removing or replacing a pickguard (where suitable) is a super easy way to give an instrument a different look, albeit probably on a temporary basis.
  3. On the other hand, I quite like going naked sometimes (oo-er missus!) . So, not meaning to change the subject of the topic, but what about the 'no pickguard at all' option? As in my Tokai Jazz Sound: And my fretless 'Ray (as above): And this is one I used to own:
  4. I still think the tort guard on the op's Jazz is the way to go. That said, I do like White Pearl and have swapped out the originals on a few of my instruments as shown below..... Fender USA Jazz (Aquamarine - originallly with plain white pickguard) MM Stingray5 (originallly with plain white pickguard) Fender USA Strat (originally had a plain white guard and all white fittings (controls, pup covers, etc). Yamaha Pacifica 604 (white pearl already installed as standard) I've also installed a white pearl guard to my cream-coloured Fender Telecaster but not taken any pics yet. And finally........ just to show I do also like tort pickguards...... Here's my fretless Stingray
  5. I dunno where you woz taught, but I woz always taught, a guard on a 'burst Jazz has gotta be tort!
  6. Nice to see the old Gibbo here. Brings back some nice memories as I did some recording in France many moons ago and was loaned one of these (with the extra pup) until I could bring my own bass over.
  7. I go along with this, too. I had a Chandler P/J bass back around the mid-80's which played and felt really nice (see pic). Can't think why I got rid of it. Probably to go towards whatever came next! 🙄
  8. Yep, I shall surely have a P one day, Bob! 😎
  9. Niiice!
  10. Ok, you can come in...!!
  11. Tokai Jazz Sound c.1981/2. I bought this as a fretted bass around 10 or so years ago and most of the mojo was already there. I had it converted to fretless by the chap at GuitarAvenue when I wanted to get a truss-rod issue sorted. Now has a nice Indian Rosewood board.
  12. Another +1 for the Gramma Pad here. Certainly weight has never been an issue and although I don't take it out on every gig, it still seems the same as when I first bought it a few years ago.
  13. Much kudos to your 14-year-old self for your resoldering job. When I was 14, I'd be proud enough of myself just to have successfully put a new set of strings on!!
  14. Love it! It's like that favourite pair of comfortable old shoes you just can't bear to part with.
  15. Yeah, baby, that'll do for me! (I dread to think what may have caused you to throw it 20' across a stage, though! ) Well, I'd hate for people to be 'carving up' their pride and joy (or any other piece of kit) on purpose, just so they can qualify for this l'il old Basschat thread!
  16. Much appreciated @skidder652003. Yep, she's a beaut, fer sure! But, to be honest, this is my main go-to, do-it-all bass and we've been together a long time so have to say I don't see us parting company any time soon.
  17. Over the years my Stingray5 has acquired a bit of mojo, some nicks and knocks plus some extra wear and 'buckle rash' on the rear. Certainly not intentional, of course, but it did get me wondering about other Basschatters instruments that have picked up their own mojo. Don't be shy, show us some genuine mojo! Please note: No 'reliced' instruments. GENUINE mojo only, please. Acquired naturally, whether by yourself or from previous owner(s). Current or previously-owned instruments. A couple of small nicks on the back end.
  18. It's a different 'Class'!
  19. Another "welcome to the club" here, Rich. 👍😎👍
  20. I use both. I fitted Ernie Ball removable castors to my Trace 1x15 combo many years ago and also bought a good size folding/collapsible trolley from Wickes (not the smaller Rolson type) for my Trace 2x10/2x5 cab. Depending on the gig (if I'm taking both bits of kit out with me), I might leave the castors on the combo and sit the cab on top of the combo. Just makes it easier to move around, if required. Or I'll sit the combo (with or without castors) on top of the cab which, although the 15" is on top, still gives me a decent bass response. I'll also sit the whole lot on a Gramma Pad, if required. (See pics).
  21. +1
  22. Nice to find this thread here - even if am about 6 years late!! Anyhoo, here are my two Westone Thunder II's (c.1981). I bought the fretless in the mid-80's. I also had the fretted bass at the same time but actually sold it in the 90's. (Doh!). However, I found the same one on Ebay a few years back and snapped it up.
  23. Haha, fair point, but I have to say almost all of our gigs are ground level. On occasion where there have been stairs, we've even been lucky enough to have a lift. I know none of this is guaranteed in which case, where I know beforehand, I can always bring my lighter Eden combo instead. 💪 💪
  24. One more from the archives - not an exact replica, this is a 'tribute to Jaco' Jazz Bass made by a British luthier which I acquired about 10 or so years ago. Action and pups needed a bit of sorting for live work which I never did get around to doing. I eventually sold it on to a non-playing Jaco fan who wanted to hang it on his wall.
  25. Yes, indeed. Fortunately, we usually have a couple of roadies for all that humping palarva...!! I do also have my trolley for the cab plus wheels on the combo. Sorted.
