5. Just need to correct the last post made by jabba_the_gut as Grangur and myself were (mistakenly I'm sure ) removed from the list. Ooh look, just one more needed to hit the big three-oh! 7.
I had some pretty horrendous noises from my '97 Stingray 5 during the summer. I took it to a tech who soldered it for around £30 or thereabouts. Mine was jack interference. But if you're not so great with techincal stuff anyway, take it to a shop to have it looked over. They'll usually diagnose a problem for free and it's up to you what you want to do about it.
Yep, I'll be taking it to a guitar tech in the next few days and get it sorted, whatever it is. If anything, I suppose I could've expected it more from my older Stingray 5 (1989) rather than my relatively newer (2001) fretless Stingray. Ah well, obviously a first time for everything!
 8. I've found this video on Youtube which pretty much illustrates the same problem I'm having. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XxN6s4SqigE
 9.
I hate to be the guy who ask this, but it has to be asked: the battery is ok, right? If in doubt, replace it. I'm not trying to insult you, but the number of times that I have overlooked something as simple as that is enormous and I wouldn't have minded someone pointing out the very simple things first, before I go crazy
Yep, the battery was indeed the first thing I checked. I also wondered if it might be the flip-out battery holder. All seems well there.
I had a recurring noise/buzz from a Musicman that nobody, just nobody, could fix. I lived in Dublin at the time and the guy who looked after U2's guitars pretended like he had fixed it, but he hadn't. Turned out a later owner solved it - the copper wire in the pickup had broken, so it needed a rewind. Another thing to think about checking.
Hmmm, yeah, that's a thought. Thanks.
 10.
Noisy electrics. Firstly looks at electro-mechanical items like pots (Volume and tone controls) and battery connections. These are much more likely to be a problem than the parts in the preamp PCB. Use pliers to nip the battery clip connectors a little tighter and don't forget the battery itself. For the pots, rapid rotation 20-30 times of the pots can clear dirt and dust that accumulates below the wipers. If that does not clear it try deoxit. If that does not work you may need new pots. It is unlikely the preamp itself is causing ge crackles but check each end of all the cables to see that they are still soldered properly. Oh and some pictures may help if you can upload them.
Many thanks for the advice. One thing I neglected to mention was that the noise is pretty loud (sounds like a small lawnmower!!) and the pitch actually changes slightly when I rotate the eq knobs.
 11. Help! My fretless Stingray has just developed a pretty nasty noise problem. I've done a little research online and I'm thinking it could be the preamp (3-band eq). Just wondering if any other BC'ers have had similar and how they may have fixed it. i.e., repair existing preamp? replace with new preamp? I'm not much cop with a soldering iron so I guess a trip to an instrument techie person may be in order. (If indeed that is the problem). Any help or advice will be much appreciated. Cheers, Steve
 12.
Great blog - as usual I might add.
Ditto!
 13. Another successful bash, totally enjoyed the day (even if I did spend much of it in the Jam Room - oops, sorry! ). Much thanks to all the folks who put it all together, especially the dynamic duo, Nik and Colin. See you all next year for the 10th anniversary bash.
 14. Yep, good to go here, too. Looking forward to it. One thing to mention is I've decided to sell my Trace Elliot combo (GP12-SMX 1x15" 300w, plus FREE TE ext. cab 2x10+2x5) so may not have the combo to bring. However, if any Basschatter's are interested to see the combo and/or cab, with a view to possibly buying it, I'll be happy to bring 'em along. (No commitments, no obligations, no worries). More details? Just ask.
 15. Woohoo! Looks like I'm 90% good to go, even 95%... (but with the tiniest of question-marks due to possible gig-ness). If I make it: MM Stingray5, MM Stingray fretless, TUNE TWB6, Trace Elliot GP12SMX 1x15 combo I'm sure I can bring some raffle bits too.
 16.
Stingray5 - thanks for the "All Blues" bass line at Hatfield. Was noodlin' this at rehearsal yesterday, the drums and guitar joined in and the singer/harp man then put Muddy Waters "40 Days and 40 Nights" on top. Lawdey, we have "new" different number for the next gig.
Glad to be of service, sir
 17. A major loss not just to the world of bass but to the world of music in general. Similar to others here, I bought a new Rick 4001 back in '74 mainly because of Chris. There's a new star north side of the sky! RIP Chris.
 18. Great job on the blog, Silvia. And yes, the Lull T'bird would be great for Prog - but don't tell Jack!!!
 19. Another superb bash, it was great to meet up again with old friends and make new ones, too. Not to mention some outstanding gear. Thanks also to the folks who put it all together. Looking forward to the South East BB...
 20. Looking forward to seeing everyone today but I'm afraid I'll have to leave my gear at home. As previously mentioned, I had some recent back problems and although things feel very much better now, I'd rather not risk lugging instruments and amps etc., particularly as I have some gigs looming in the next couple of weeks. Apologies to such, who requested I bring the Westones. Maybe the South East Bass Bash? :-)
 21.
The Westones!
Will do, provided I can bring a crane (see Jack's post)
Pete and Steve - hope to see both of you there! Steve, take care and do the Pilates exercises. Would be great to catch up!
Looking forward to it
Well I'll be at the bash actually. Best bring Old Reliable so that people can understand how you got your back problem. Oh, and a crane to lift it of course.
I may just fit wheels and a motor and ride it in!
 22. I'm going to try and make this. The first Herts bash in 2013 was great fun but I had to miss last year. I should be free this weekend but a recent back problem may dictate otherwise (Jack, where are you when I need you?! ). Gear - depends on the aforementioned back problem but I'll probably bring 'old reliable' (Stingray 5, 1989, maple neck). Possibly also a 2001 Stingray 4-string fretless (Rosewood neck) and a 1991 Tune TWB-6 6-stringer (Rosewood neck). (Or other basses as per my signature pic if there's any interest). Hope to see you all on Sunday.
