1. I can only echo the sentiments of others here. Sad news, indeed.
 2.
Just picked this up today and thought I would share it with you. A long time coming, but it was worth the wait! I give up. Picture won't upload. Tips anyone? It's only 1.6MB....
Best thing is to use an image host such as Flickr, Photobucket, etc. Just copy the IMG code from Flickr, Photobucket, etc and paste it into your post. Sorted!
 3. 12 pages indeed! As others have also said, I can't say I'm impressed with S&T, and even EB, in how this has all panned out so far. Not that I'm about to ditch all things MM because of it. I just hope this is resolved for the better for Gareth as soon as possible.
 4.
No yet, EBMM are aware and are investigating. Problem is, I can't fault it when they are right. I love their basses.
+1 to that, sir!
 5. Only just catching up on this thread, but having read it through, I can't really add anything to what's already been said. But I'd go along with Grand Wazoo's post re contacting EBMM/Aziah direct, which I see Gareth has now done. Hope they can add some serious weight to resolving this issue asap.
 6.
excellent to deal with , would recommend 100% . enjoy the tokai tuners
Many thanks, Eamon. Fitted and good to go...
 7. After posting some pics of a Tokai Jazz Sound, I mentioned how the one odd tuner that was fitted to the bass would likely be almost impossible to find. But within a few replies in that same thread, Eamon informed me that he actually had a complete set of the tuner(s) I needed. Result! Following a few pics to verify they were the same type, payment was made and I received the tuners a few days later. Many thanks Eamon!
 8. Thanks for leaving any feedback here. Steve
 9.
Takes all the fun out of it
Not to mention the sound!
 10.
Oops - sorry! Will amend the post...
Hehe, thanks Nik. And thanks to Mrs Nik for the slick pics!
 11.
Yes, and I forgot me false beard
Aye, that be me - Cap'n Falsebeard! Yarr!!
 12.
Stingray5 (left) & seashell (right) in the Jam Room Many thanks for giving me a mention, but I'm the one on the left! Was that a deliferate mistale? (PS don't work too hard tonight!)
Hey, yeah - I can't say I remember donning a blonde wig that day!!
 13. Finally home and back online just to say what another good day the bash was. I must admit I'd made myself a promise to make it into the jam room this time and pretty much ended up in there most of the day but did manage to say hi to a few faces too. Particularly good to have Paul the drums there in the jam room and I have to say I was most impressed with Nigel's own drum skills (some wicked off-beat playing, dude! ). Not to mention guitar, too! Thanks also for letting me hog your Strat and pedal board for a while for some ethereal madness! We had some interesting stuff going down, along with Alex and Simon really pumping out some serious Barefaced bottom end... It was also good to see Shelley, the one and only female bass player there - and nice that she joined in for some jammin' fun. Hope you enjoyed it. Thanks to Nik and Hamster and their respective missuses(!) for putting it together. Looking forward now to the next one. Steve
 14. Oops, this'll teach me to not read a whole thread first as I just sent a PM to see if it was the same Steve Curtis (and Greta of the Strayshots) that I remembered from when I played the Country circuit back in the 80s with the band Firewater.
 15. Effects on bass are definitely not needed. Whether they are wanted is another matter. I usually take my GT-6B to a gig and have a few patches I've put together for certain types of number, depending on the band or type of music I'm doing. With the Proggy stuff, I could probably go to town, though generally don't. With the covers band, I'll just use a little chorus, maybe some 'drive, according to the numbers. At a recent gig where I had the chorus on pretty much throughout, a guy came up at the end and said how much he liked the bass sound. Mind you he said he played a bit of guitar, so what would he know!?!
 16.
I know how old Tokai's are What I meant is - depends on which version this bass is copied - Jazz Bass from sixties or seventies, the bridge pickup is placed in different position and it wants to be checked. BTW - pickguard is already off! very good!
Oops - yeah, I shoulda realized that's what you meant re 60s/70s etc.
 17.
i have a set of machine heads for this bass . there are the same as yours pm me if you want them
Wow, the wonders of Basschat! PM sent.
 18.
I had a Tokai Jazz very similar to that one but it was a lined fretless with a rosewood veneer fingerboard and no scratchplate. I remember it was quite heavy but had a good sound. I think the odd machine adds a bit to the mojo - I guess a part like that is one that comes along once in a blue moon but it probably wouldn't be that expensive.
I've always liked that 'lived in' look on the bodywork of basses, guitars, etc., (though only when it's genuine) so I'd certainly go along with the mojo aspect of the bass; even with a replaced machine. That said, I'll keep looking, but will bear in mind the words 'blue' and 'moon'...
 19.
it's a 1980's japanese copy of Jaco's bass..... I guess it would be a closer copy than anything fender use were making that decade!
Not really a 'Jaco' bass as such. Just Jaco influenced, perhaps. As previously mentioned, I got the bass with a white scratchplate fitted but removed it as I prefer the look, plus I'm not sure Jaco played a black Jazz bass at anytime, though if I'm wrong, I stand corrected.
 20.
check neck pickup position, it should be placed in 808 milimetres from the nut (seventies) or 798 milimetres (sixties). If not, you may not be happy anyway - huge fan of old japan basses!
Definitely not that old! Tokai added the 'L' in front of serial numbers starting in 1981.
 21.
Yes,you are going to have serious trouble finding a machine head ! It's one of the cheaper (relative term) 3 screw ones, the higher spec models had 4 screws.Tried the Tokai Forum?
Must admit I bookmarked the Tokai Guitar Registry when I had a Tokai Telecaster (Breezysound) and had forgotten about the forum. Thanks for the reminder.
 22.
The 'Honky Tonk' label doesn't fill me with confidence but I hope you are enjoy it!
Ah, I only mentioned 'Honky Tonk Music' as there will be people here that know that music shop in Southend -- which is still there -- and where this bass was (presumably) purchased from. Note also the very old phone number on the label. (Sorry, the picture maybe a little too small to see the label clearly on small screens or phones).
 23. I know this doesn't compare with more prolific posters here on Basschat, but if the sums add up, this should be my 1,000th actual post. (More than that, in fact, but I understand 'Off-Topic' posts are not counted?). Only taken since mid-2008 to get there! Anyway, some time back, I picked up a well-used '80s Tokai Jazz Sound bass (L-series). The neck had some serious truss rod issues so my good friend Gary at Guitar Avenue suggested letting his luthier take a look. Long story short - the rod had been twisted to the point of being pretty well 'jammed' into place and could no longer be adjusted properly. The board would need to be removed and probably replaced. He had some nice Indian rosewood he could replace it with though. As long as the board was going to be replaced, I asked for it to be kept as fretless, the bass previously being fretted. This made the job that little bit easier and I much preferred going fretless for this particular bass anyway. Result! Only thing is, he advised I keep to lighter guage strings to reduce the pull on the neck. So it now has a set of 35-95 Elites and all seems well so far. I'm now looking for an original replacement machine head as the 'G' has been fitted with a newer type from a Squier or other budget bass. However, I suspect this may be about as rare as the stuff that comes out of the rear end of a rocking horse! Here be pictures: I removed the white scratchplate Odd machine-head to be replaced. Note old 'Honky Tonk Music' label. Post-lawsuit logo That lived-in look...
 24.
I think it's just right tbh, I know exactly where to look for what.
+1
FWIW, the way I use BC means the number of sub-forums is irrelevant to me. The only time I look for a specific forum is when I'm perusing the for sale areas. Other than that, it's 'view new posts' or the search function.
+1
It's now called "View New Content" and there's a whole new host of options to filter it.
+1
