Looks like the photo permission is set to 'Private'. Change to 'Public' then we can paaaarty!

On the whole, it's been worth it. As others have said gear insurance, public liability, legal advice, also contracts and teaching support - it all helps. I just wish they'd stuck to the previous format for the magazine. The current style looks more like a financial report!

Three fretless's (fretlii?) - all electric. MusicMan Stingray, Westone Thunder 2 (see my sig), both played semi-regularly, plus a Tokai Jazz with a broken rod. (Was fretted but had a luthier convert it to fretless and fix the rod enough to be playable. Just needs to be kept lightly strung but sounds superb. One electro-acoustic - just an Aria AMB-50. Fretted but sounds decent. Would prefer fretless so may get rid for the Takamine I wanted in the first place.

Looks like you may have this well in hand now guys and I look forward to seeing the resulting "compilation album" But should you need an extra helping hand with the search, let me know what's needed. Steve

Can't believe how quickly the year has gone. Thoughts and a glass to OG and family.

Cheers for this, B5. Don't mind admitting I wasn't familiar with these guys but I'll certainly be checking out more of their stuff.
Sounds like an epic trip you have planned there! As you're gona be crossing the States I can't urge you enough to go check out the Southern States especially Virginia, Carolinas, Tennessee, Kentucky & Georgia. First time I went over in 2008 I fell in love with the people and the place (I was given the title of 'Honorary Redneck' and a John Deere cap hence the name JohnDeereJack!)
Definitely +1 on going down south. And while you're in The South, you might want to bone up on some of Jeff Foxworthy's Redneck-ism's. Example: You might be a Redneck...

If you own a home that is mobile, and fourteen cars that aren't.
If your ironing board doubles as a buffet table.
If your dad walks you to school because you're in the same grade.
Mind you, the above could probably apply to a lot of people over here, too...
Hey guys, a few questions as its my first time flying with a bass as I may be buying a new 1 in the states next week. First of all I am looking at a g and l l2000 tribute and was hoping you guys could recommend me a good hard case to transport it in and help survive the flight but still be usable for taking the bass to college. Also what other tips other than getting a hard case would you recommend to help me make sure the bass survives the flight. Many thanks Josh
You might want to consider a Hiscox LiteFlite. Watch the first couple or so minutes of this video (it's a guitar case here, but I've done similar with my bass).
Im seriously thinking if this is possibly the funkiest tune ive ever heard..... a bass player from the states put me on to these... i nearly spat my pint out when i heard the horns.... the track is from a band called Quazar... a great mix of horns and funk groove.... fantastic band.. IMO. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sj0ikFlARjw...feature=related
Hey b5, now there's a blast from the past. I remember Quazar (not to be confused with 80's Prog-rock band Quasar!) and this reminded of another album from 1978 -- maybe you already know it -- Dale Jacobs and Cobra (still have it on vinyl, too).

Guy Pratt on Talksport's H and J Show This PM
Stingray5 replied to merello's topic in General Discussion
Guy Pratt on today.
Rats, I missed it. He's been on their show before. On a personal note, I was in a soft jazz-fusion type band with Paul Hawksbee back in the 80's and he was a pretty good keyboard player. Not sure if he still plays much these days...? -
Ok ive been browsing on BC for a little while.. im not a fanboy of L42... i dont even listen to much of them...although i do love of some of there music.. cant stand the MK arguments on BC mind.. i heard this the other day from a fellow bass player... loved the bass playing.. knew it was MK but waswt used to hearing his fingerstyle...i always liked this style of his playing.. he is so so good at it... good at the slap yeah for sure.. but his fingerstyle is incredible.. his note choices too... hope you enjoy.. but im sure you have heard.. check this out for mind blowing fingerstyle Mk.. bit of slap in the middle.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RokM8rs6bJA
Thanks for reminding me of this. You may know, there's also an alternative demo of the same number but at a slightly faster bpm. I've always liked MK's fingerstyle playing. Shows he wasn't all about the slap. p.s. - welcome to Basschat!

Yep, I remember your original posting, Jack (how's the leg btw?), but thanks for the memories once again. My brother had one of the Futurama's while I had one of these, a Wilson Ranger (the two-pickup model in my case): The inevitable Watkins Rapier followed on from that!

Interesting to see this video of the factory in Corona 50 years on, by way of comparison. Routers that cut out up to eight guitar bodies at a time, the "guitars-r-us" drying rack and Abigail Ybarra, who's been there making pickups since 1956! Spot the Jaco 'relic' body!

Great stuff! I remembered previously posting some UPP vids in the Funk and Groove thread here: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?s=&sho...st&p=912803

A truly unique musician and artist. A very sad loss.

Jeez, when did kids TV get so cool? I see they've also had the likes of percussionist Evelyn Glennie, slide guitarist Michael Messer and even keyboardist Dr Lonnie Smith - aka Lonnie Liston Smith. Check it out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PMEO1Hxmzh8

Mmm, looks a lovely bass there and some very nice photos. But please, could we have a full length shot just to get the complete picture? Also a full-length rear shot, if poss? Ta.

Be nice to see the whole thing once it's done

Jerry Jemmott To Tour With Gregg Allman Band Wednesday, December 15th, 2010 "...The Gregg Allman band is hitting the road for a Winter 2010/2011 tour that runs up and down the east coast, with bassist Jerry Jemmott. The group is making the trek in support of Allman’s upcoming album, Low Country Blues. The album, which actually features bassist Dennis Crouch, is a collection of cover songs by famous bluesmen, including Muddy Waters, Otis Rush and B.B. King. Jemmott is one of the most heard yet under-appreciated bassists of our time. As a key architect of Atlantic Records sound of the 60’s and 70’s, he played on tons of hit records by Aretha Franklin, King Curtis, Wilson Pickett, B.B. King, and more. Jaco Pastorius claimed him as a major influence..." Stingray5 replied to minkey1980's topic in General Discussion
So I was having a think about the basses I have owned and gigged over time and was thinking, what is the best ever bass guitar? my collection so far.... etc.
Wot, no Stingray?! Until you've owned a Stingray, you'll never know what is the best bass ever! <even more worms> <grabs coat, runs and hides> -
You'll no doubt get a bunch of suggestions here, but one other would be to try the 'Genius' button in iTunes and see what that comes up with.
