Jerry Jemmott To Tour With Gregg Allman Band Wednesday, December 15th, 2010 "...The Gregg Allman band is hitting the road for a Winter 2010/2011 tour that runs up and down the east coast, with bassist Jerry Jemmott. The group is making the trek in support of Allman’s upcoming album, Low Country Blues. The album, which actually features bassist Dennis Crouch, is a collection of cover songs by famous bluesmen, including Muddy Waters, Otis Rush and B.B. King. Jemmott is one of the most heard yet under-appreciated bassists of our time. As a key architect of Atlantic Records sound of the 60’s and 70’s, he played on tons of hit records by Aretha Franklin, King Curtis, Wilson Pickett, B.B. King, and more. Jaco Pastorius claimed him as a major influence..."
So I was having a think about the basses I have owned and gigged over time and was thinking, what is the best ever bass guitar? my collection so far.... etc.
Wot, no Stingray?! Until you've owned a Stingray, you'll never know what is the best bass ever! <even more worms> <grabs coat, runs and hides> -
You'll no doubt get a bunch of suggestions here, but one other would be to try the 'Genius' button in iTunes and see what that comes up with.

If it's on youtube, 'ave a look - red Jazz (I think) with seriously slanted pups!!!! not noticed that before . Any one know what it is ?? Strange for that era. Cheers.
Sorry, 'Eric' - Inspector Picky of the Picky Police, 'ere. I'm afraid, sir, I can't 'elp you with identifyin' that bass, but I 'ave to tell you, sir, that it was not '...Noddy Holder's thing...', but, in fact, Roy Wood's thing; Noddy Holder's thing being 'Merry Christmas Everybody'! Ok, you 'int sin me, awright!?!
I avoided the ones where the wheels fold in as well as invariably they can do that while you are transporting your gear. I have something similar but with wheels that don't fold in, telescopic handle and fold down footplate
Not that this a 'best trolley competition' (or is it? ) but I would just say that in the years I've had mine, the wheels have never folded in on me when transporting any cabs etc. If anything, the weight keeps them in place. I just prefer it as it all folds flat for packing with the rest of my gear into the back of my car or for storage at home. -
Pino is employed just as much for his ability, creativity and musical contribution as he is for his ability to "blend in" and do as he's told. Prime example being his original and spectular fretless work with Neil Young... oh and his work with D' Angelo... oh and John Mayer... oh and Elton John! (You get the point )
My point exactly, though I'm sure it was a slip of the keyboard, you referring to Neil Young, as opposed to Paul Young...
Doh - Stingray5 just beat me to it!!!
Ah, but your Homebase suggestion beats mine by a whole five quid. Good catch! -
For me, being a backing bassist for other artists wouldn't be the best bass job. It has to be something where you can have some input & not just copy what someone else has done for a song.
I totally agree regarding having some input and to that end I don't see Nathan East, Pino Palladino et al being called upon solely for any ability to simply copy what someone else may have done, though of course certain songs will certainly have bass lines that simply don't need to be changed. But I'm also referring to recording original material with top artists where they employ a bass player just as much for their ability to come up with the right lines.

Not sure if this would do but I bought a 'toe-truck' from Wickes a few years back though couldn't find the exact thing online. Here's something very similar that Maplins are doing (£19.99, normally £34.99). Folds to a good compact size and I imagine the rubber wheels will be far more suited to street use. Load Capacity: 80kg Height Open: 1 metre Height Closed: 736mm Width: 482mm Thickness: 482mm Toe Plate: 250x482mm Rubber Wheel: 177mm Dia -
I guess it's all very subjective, depending on people's particular fave bands or artists, as to what the best bass playing job would be. Nathan and Pino were what came to my mind as having played the pick of some of the top jobs in pop/rock/etc. I'd also ad Levin and Sklar to my own mix. For me then, being in the position of a 'first call' player and having the pick of the litter could be the best job. Playing for the likes of Gilmour/Floyd, Peter Gabriel or Eric Clapton would certainly do it for me. Or maybe it was that cr@p pub gig I played last week with the cr@p sound and the cr@p audience!!!

I don't see too many of these up for sale. This one's in North Carolina. Pretty cheap for essentially a boutique bass, but then it's not exactly your everyday 4-stringer! The Zimmerly website also appears to be no more - at least going by a Google search and the links in the ad. South East Bass Bash Year 4, Surrey, 27th November 2010
Stingray5 replied to silverfoxnik's topic in Events
I have to admit I actually brought my camera but ended up spending most of the time in the hall where the various 'seminars' were going on. DOH! In between other diversions and chatting with various others, I realized I'd left little time for taking pics (or for the Jam Room, too! ). Must do better next time... -

Actually, there is this beautiful clip of Marvin Gaye in concert with Jamerson on bass. (This was in a previous thread that was also asking about the bass amp).

For anyone who hasn't seen this before (and anyone who has), a short lesson in keeping it tight from Dennis Chambers and Gary Grainger...

Maybe it's the time of night and I'm feeling a tad knackered, but I have to say my attention was waning halfway through this. Pity it didn't continue on a little longer as I'd also like to have seen a bit more of Stan the man on the DB. Bass Gods all three, nevertheless!
