Could not pop in to say hi in the end as had the chance to record some bass in the studio. Big sorry to Stingray5 for not getting the chance to try your fretless Ray out. Really wanted to have a go as getting frustrated with my current fretless and need to make a decision soon before I go mad. Hope you all had lots of fun though.
No worries, matey. I'll no doubt have the f/less Ray with me at the next bash if you don't happen to get a chance to play one before then. And just to echo everyone's comments above, well done to Nik, Colin/Hamster et al for another successful Bass Bash. Also to 5im0n, Mike/urb and Johnnylager for their talks/demo's which were most entertaining and informative. Plus a special mention to Happy Jack who (thanks to drummer Paul) managed to make it along, albeit on crutches. There's dedication for ya! -
South East Bass Bash Year 4, Surrey, 27th November 2010

I've found a bunch of various unused MU stickers for cases, cabs, etc., that I'm happy to give away to anybody who wants one or two (or three...) I have 3 types: Classic yellow circular 'Keep Music Live' Later orange circular 'Keep It Real' Red/black rectangular 'This Way Up'/'Handle With Care' I'll either give 'em to Nick or come see me ... -
Hi all, I joined a short while ago and realized, during a spot of midnight surfing, that I still hadn't said hello. Suffice to say I've been playing bass now for more years than I care to remember (...and guitar even longer!). Played most styles too at one time or another. But bass has always been my primary instrument (guitar players being two-a-penny!! ) and mine have taken me just about half way round the world and a lot closer to home too, of course (home being in the London area). Ready for the other half now! I have around a dozen instruments and my basses are 4, 5, 6-string and fretless (most listed below). Currently, I'm working with two main bands plus another couple of occasional bands plus any dep/studio work that comes my way. Aside from that, it's the usual private teaching from home thing which I've also been doing for a bunch of years. Cheers for now, Steve.
Aw shucks - all sweet and innocent! Little did I know what I'd signed up to...

Does Anyone know anything about these?
Stingray5 replied to JMT3781's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
Well, the words 'blast' and 'past' certainly come to mind. I seem to remember the keyboard player in one of my (very old) bands might have had a red one (still with reverse black/white keys). Other than that, I'm afraid I can't tell you much. But these people might: http://www.organforum.com/forums/forum.php -
Coool and its a four string and not five? Anymore than four strings and I get a brain meltdown
Yes indeed, 4-string lined fretless, in fact. Click on my signature pic below and you can see it (2nd from left). -
Can anyone just turn up and have a browse and say hi as it would be good to pop in if I can get away from other stuff. Also, is anyone bringing a Stingray fretless 4 string I could try?
I'll have my fretless Ray with me. You're welcome to give it a go. -
Does anyone have an Auralex Gramma pad they can bring with them for a quick before and after demo?
Just realized I didn't include my Gramma Pad in the stuff I'm bringing so there'll be at least two at the bash, then. (Don't leave home without it! ) Also, just to say, depending on where I am the night before and when I can get to the bash (aiming for 10am), I may have to bring my trusty old TE BLX-80 combo instead of the bigger rig (TE GP12SMX 1x15 combo + 2x10 cab). -
im wondering Marks views on (for example) half way through payments, someone gets made redundant etc..?
Check if there's some sort of payment insurance built in, or whether it can be added. Of course, if it isn't, that would add a pound or two to the monthly payments.

Brilliant. A great read and some nice insights into the world of FZ. I particularly liked the last two quotes at the bottom of the page. As it 'appens, Rick Wakeman played "Peaches En Regalia" on his Planet Rock show last Saturday which was the track that first introduced me to Zappa way back when.

HELP_____What is your first choice Jazz Bass color?
Stingray5 replied to Funnybass's topic in General Discussion
It's all very subjective, "one man's meat..." etc., but of the choices shown, it would definitely be the black with black pearl guard for me. Personally, I don't mind the black pearl though, to answer #6, maybe an alternative would be a plain black/white/black guard? Or even a dark red tort on black? -
The longer I play, the more I realize, the more I learn, the less I know. It can be both frustrating and satisfying at the same time but the bottom line is about enjoyment and having fun. As has been said, you can play along with CDs/mp3s etc and get your ears working. Along the way, if you feel like it, try to pick up on some music theory - even if only the basics. A good teacher would be well worth it and there's a wealth of stuff right here on Basschat, too, in the Theory and Technique section. It's one thing to know the 'how' -- it's even better to understand the 'why'.

Hope you feel better soon, B5. Keep diggin' the Dan - you know it makes sense!

Woody Herman Big Band funk version of Steely Dan's "Kid Charlemagne". If that ain't fused, I dunno what is... (To be fair, I probably coulda put this track in Pete's 'God I love Jazz-Funk' and 'Funk and Groove' threads, too).
-
Good job, Nigel. Nice review, pics and breakdown. I'd also put it in the "Awesome Lookin' Basses" thread, too... if there was one!
I'd agree with that, but can anyone think of any famous band where any of the individual members have gone on to bigger things?
Sting and Phil Collins, to name two...

Obviously post-Beatles, but this might also be a good time to mention the new re-mastered deluxe version of 'Band On The Run'. (2 CD+DVD set). Not just a great Macca album; a great album. Period. (imho, of course ) And best of all, Amazon are selling it for £8.95.

Thanks, jtb. Duly noted, though sadly I'm not in a position to do anything this side of Christmas...

Thanks a lot, guys! The Shuker's, along with the Kubicki's have re-ignited my GAS problem... (stand well clear and no naked flames, please! ). Add to that my existing GAS for a GB bass and I don't think I'll be going anywhere this bonfire night!
Just a standard Kubicki ExFactor, standard tuning, bought second hand nine years ago but was built in August 88 so is an original Kubicki before the licencing deal with Fender came into play. Bought by someones dad who kitted both sons out with top notch instruments that promptly got left in the cases under the stairs. I was more than happy to give it a good home. Sounds a bit different to my coral pink Fender Kubicki which is why I didn't mind turning the coral pink one into a fretless. Mike
I've always fancied one of these myself. Looks nice in white, too. Kenny Gradney of Little Feat is one particular favourite of mine who plays one.
