Damn WHite SUpremacists. They get everywhere.... I really want that White Gibson ES335 that Wendy Melvoin plays in the Wendy and Lisa video of Waterfall (can't embed in work, sorry).
If I may oblige, Bilbo... A great looking guitar on a great track from a great album.

My Tune TWB-6. It was love at first sight. Bought s/h from the Bass Centre back in '97.
Props to Irish composer Patrick Cassady for writing this beautiful piece of music originally used in 'Hannibal' and later used in 'Kingdom of Heaven'. Absolutely incredible
Beautiful!

Putting a bunch of pre-recorded various artists songs together in a movie has never quite seemed like a proper soundtrack to me although I grant it has worked in certain cases. Personally, for me, an original film score is where it's at. I could reel off a number of favourites including a few already mentioned here (and in similar threads). With that, I'd just say: +1 to Blade Runner. Also Star Wars (and other John Williams stuff - Close Encounters, E.T., etc). +1,000 to LOTR +1,000,000 to Ennio Morricone. "Once Upon A Time In America" brilliant. Especially "Deborah's Theme". One of my all-time favourites, though not a movie as such -- "Band of Brothers" (Michael Kamen).

Nicely done, dood! I do like Bass Musician Mag. They've done some very good in-depth interviews and can now add yours to the list. Only thing is, the site appears to be broken at the moment. Hey, dood, what did you do...?!

Not me, sadly - my bruvver! I think he's going tonight. I must remember to put salt in his sugar bowl! (Jealous? Moi?)

I guess it's like when I used to use a Krooklok for the car. Not much to put off the determined pro tea-leaf, but perhaps effective in deterring chancers. Bass-wise, what about wider 5- 6- 7-string necks etc? I imagine an alternate model will depend on demand.
Seriously, we've done 'Don't Take me Alive' since day one and it's stayed in the set for 13 years. For me it's the Larry Carlton guitar intro that's most memorable. I'd love to see another Steely Dan album with him on guitar. He was a massive part of their sound.
+1
Everytime I see the name 'Steely Dan' I have the song 'Stuck in the Middle With You' in my head then I realise that's 'Stealers Wheel'

And Steeleye Span.
I'll very likely be playing 'Stuck in the Middle With You' at my gig tonight and will think of that Steely-eyed Wheelspan Dan when I do!
I've not really listened to much Steely Dan but this song just blows me away. Does anyone have any tab for it (yes yes I can't read sheets yet..)? Any similar songs anyone can recommend?
Everything else!

Does seem a bit of a tease for SC to have his Alembic 'all lit up and ready to go' and not actually lay a finger on it. From your OP, it seems you missed a second set and I would imagine he must've played it then... (or not!?). All the same, an excellent stroke of luck to have been front and centre for the gig. Hope you remembered to pick your jaw/tongue up off the floor before you left!!!
Hi Folks, As you know, we'd like to donate any proceeds from the day in honour of Old Git. Having consulted with Ros (Si's widow), she said that Si supported and believed in the work of these two Charities particularly: The Kambia Appeal (kambia.org.uk) - supporting a hospital in Sierra Leone (Si did his thing on their last web site) The Samaritans (samaritans.org) Does anyone have a particular preference as to which should receive a donation or shall we just split the funds between them? Nik
I'm fine with whatever is decided. Both are very worthy causes and a nice way to further honour Si/OG. I'm also just rooting through my dark, dank, dungeon (otherwise known as my store cupboard!) for some goody(ies) to donate to the raffle. -
Rick Wakeman...didn't he play keyboards on Cat Stevens Morning Has Broken?

Yes he did. He also played Mellotron on Bowies "Space Oddity" & loads of other stuff. He apparently took quite a drop in pay when he joined Yes because he was earning so much as a session musician.

Wakeman was indeed an in-demand arranger and performer for sessions prior to his first stint in Yes. Think he's playing on the odd track or two on Sabbath Bloody Sabbath as well.
Also not forgetting Rick W was also a member of The Strawbs in their earlier days (c.1970-71) and played on three of their albums (Dragonfly, Just A Collection Of Antiques And Curios and From The Witchwood).

West Side Story was always a particular favourite, but I could name a bunch more. Some people may not like musicals perhaps because of the storyline or characters and the necessity to 'over-act', at least for live performances. But the songs and composers are what make it for me, first and foremost. So I could be watching or just listening to something like "Porgy and Bess" or "South Pacific" one minute, then maybe "Mama Mia" or "Jersey Boys" the next. Now I'm just waiting for "Basschat - The Musical"! (With a cast of thousands...)
Not such a good picture as the others but it give you an idea of the basic shape.
Good enough. Much thanks.
Personally one of the attractions of bass is moving around trying new things. My last band was very country, my current lot is very Americana. I like the idea of doing Stonesy type stuff one minute & Dylan the next. I would like to have played in Stephen Stills Manassas band
You and me, both!

Nice pics, Chris. I like the stage shots of Stu Hamm and Dave Marks.
-
Nice catch! Looks a beast of a bass. I like that bit of sculpting on the rear neck/head join. Any chance of a full-length shot - just to get things in perspective? (I know -- I'm weird that way )
Overwater J5 Fretless - Trans black, Figured Maple on Mahogany It's a great bass and the best bit is my brother made that one when he worked for OW
Now that's what I call 'provenance'!

All look lovely, but the middle one in particular (sorry, not sure of the model) is an absolute beauty.
Your 4-string looks like an absolute corker too!
You know it, m8. Whereas my own SR5 has it's own share of mojo and has seen a lot of action, the fretless is pretty near mint.
-
I'm happy to slide down it for now... Speaking of which, you don't happen to fancy a fretless 5-string augmentation to your Ray collection, do you? I could do you a special local deal for local people.
I've been mulling this over and I'm sorely tempted myself, BE. (Even though I'm not local! ) I'm just considering selling my beloved 4-string fretless Ray to fund this. If there are any interested parties, I'll have mine with me at the South East Bass Bash.

For most of the reasons stated above I also am not in the habit of sharing gear though have done in the past on one or two occasions where I've known the other bands and the whole situation is trustworthy enough. To the OP - if you're committed and feel honour-bound to share your rig then, if possible, I'd advise you to keep an eye on it as much as you can throughout the gig. You don't need an over-enthusiastic bassist to decide mid-set to just whack everything on '10' (...hell, it's not their amp is it!?).
Just picked up for a song locally here in the US. Small and powerful, looking for an 1153 to put under it.
Whoa - a veteran of many battles, no doubt. I bet it still packs a punch!
