1. I wouldn't say you're being a snob, B5 You mentioned the keyword in your OP -- which some bands just don't seem to get -- 'dynamics'.
 2.
Here are my three. I am now running a purely MM stable!!
Nice trio, TK! I'm bound to say I'm absolutely loving the finish on your 5-er. Rays rule!
 3. Still looking? (...Actually that wasn't meant to be a band name suggestion, but it might work!? ) This is what I meant to post: http://www.bandnamemaker.com/ or http://bandnamr.com/ also http://www.wikihow.com/Find-an-Interesting...e-for-Your-Band
 4.
I placed an ad on one of those sites, you know lonely hearts for musicians and got a reply from a guitarist who sounds rather good if I'm honest. There's a drummer and potentially a warbler. Well it's just dawned on me that in the past year that I've been noodling around on the bass I haven't actually learnt a cover in full. Well by that I mean I'll have sort of learnt one on a night and then completely forgotten a) how to play it and/or b ) what the damned song was in the first place. So your mission, if you wish to accept it, is to come up with a few covers (4 or 5 at the max) that are very quick and easy to learn but sound alright. By easy I mean nothing with loads of fills and variations in it, repetitive is the key word here as I've got a lousy memory Oh, some are on the scratched off list already - Sex on Fire, All Right Now, Sweet Home what's it, Mustang doo dah, you know the score.
You want very quick; you want easy to learn; sound alright. You don't want loads of fills and variations. You want repetitive... Ok, these may be way off the mark, or you may have covered/dismissed them already, but how about... * U2 - "Still Haven't Found..." * U2 - "With Or Without You" * U2 - probably most of their other stuff too! * Pink Floyd - "Another Brick In The Wall" ...to name three. Yes I know -- but you did ask!
 5. For me, it's more a case of what other bass to take as my Stingray5 has been my main go-to bass for the past 14 years. If it's a function/cover band gig, I'll usually grab my Jazz as a 'backup' bass. Maybe play it for one set just so it doesn't sulk all the way home! If it's something more substantial (Prog, recording, etc.), I'll usually add the Tune 6-string and a fretless.
 6. Dunno why, but I've always assumed it was pronounced with a 'hard' G, as in Goodfellow, as opposed to a 'soft' G, as in GB.
 7.
Is that just chorus on that fretless in Babushka, or is there more ? T
Certainly sounds chorused, maybe double-tracked too? Or could be something like one of the Electro-Harmonix chorus pedals (Small Clone? Electric Mistress? etc.)...?
 8.
There was a good thread on Giblin just a couple of weeks ago, it turned out that a lot of what I thought was Giblin with Kate Bush was actually someone else! (namely on Wuthering Heights!)
In fact, Andrew Powell (Producer) is credited for Bass (and Celesta) on 'Wuthering Heights' although on the rest of the album (The Kick Inside), the bass was mostly down to David Paton (remember Pilot? ). On the 'Never For Ever' album, my favourite Kate album, Del Palmer also shared bass duties with John Giblin. She always surrounded herself with great players. 'Never For Ever' also included the excellent Alan Murphy (RIP) on guitar and Max Middleton on keys. Good stuff!
Maybe, but there's plenty of great Giblin stuff with John Martyn and Fish!
Yes, indeed. I had the pleasure of seeing John Martyn at The Dominion in '81 after the album 'Grace and Danger' came out. Giblin on bass and Phil Collins on drums. Great album. Great gig.
 9.
Quality playing with sooooooo much feel :-)
Yeah, ain't it though!
 10.
And now withdrawn. Sold elsewhere possibly?
Nope, just relisted. (Link above was to the previous listing finished earlier today). 11. Nothing new here, but I was doing a bit of Kate Bush tonight ( ) and just wanted to post a couple of her tracks featuring John Giblin's tastefully understated fretless playing - (imho, of course ) At times, if I'm playing fretless, someone will inevitably ask, "oh, d'you know that song by Paul Young...?" All due respect to Pino but I'll tell them I'd far rather be playing either of these two. Babooshka Breathing
 12.
one of new kings road guitars basses. They've had it a fair while!
Yes, indeed! No takers and listed once again. I'm wondering if/when they might drop the starting price.
 13.
Love this track, and especially the bassline, however I'm not sure what the bass is. Could be a Hofner Club bass You get a good look at it at 03:10. Awesome tone, IMHO.
I'd agree it's a 'Club' bass, without the pickguard. Yeah, nice tone. Damn-near perfect for this track.
 14. For any ELP fans with ten grand to spare! Not sure if this has been posted already. Re-listed with just a couple or so hours to go. No bids - surprise, surprise? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...E:B:WNA:GB:1123
 15.
I had a transluscent teal and it was hideous in the flesh - didn't look too bad in photos
To be fair they do probably look better under certain light.
 16.
Wow! Cheers. I've never heard of Gordon Edwards or Stuff before, but I think I need to have a listen to some of their tracks.
Indeed you do, sir! Yeah, Gordon Edwards was (still is?) a busy session player back in the day. There's probably some Stuff stuff(!) if I remember correctly here on BC. Funk and Groove thread probably... Youtube definitely.
 17. MMmm, nice! Transluscent Teal - one of my fave finishes on a Ray. I imagine as the seller is The London Guitar Centre, they won't be letting it go for too much below the BIN price. Think I'll add it to my 'Watch List' and see how it ends up. (If it sells on ebay at all, of course!).
 18. I had a feeling (oo-er missus!) and dug around a bit and can tell you it's Gordon Edwards on bass. You might be interested to know it's also Cornell Dupree on second guitar and Richard Tee on keys. The three of them, of course, all being members of Stuff.
 19. Oo, a nice pair indeed, sir! I'd normally ask which one you'd choose as your desert-island-bass, but from your post I can tell how much you love both of them, so maybe I shouldn't ask... Then again, maybe I will! So - which one would you choose as your desert-island-bass?
 20. Hellooooooo, Mr Soul! Brilliant news. Joe Vitale, from Joe Walsh's 70s band Barnstorm, is a great choice of drummer, too.
 21. I can't get Cheryl Lynn's excellent track, "Got To Be Real", out of my head as it's doing the rounds again on TV (M&S ad?) but I'm pretty sure it's already been posted here in the 'F&G' thread. So instead, especially as it's Toto backing her on that track, I thought I'd put up Toto's very own "Georgy Porgy" which originally featured Cheryl Lynn. However, this is an excellent live version from 1990. Lukather in fine form on guitar and vocal, dear Jeff Porcaro drumming; the band is cookin'! (Not sure who the female singer and two backing vocalists are. Apologies if Georgy is already posted here somewhere, too! )
 22. Although I could guess the song as soon as I saw the thread title, I must admit to not seeing this particular clip before. Some lovely complementary backing from RB and some knowing smiles from Janis when he inserted the odd flourish and harmonics.
 23. My name is Stingray5 and I am GASing for a GB bass! Especially after the last London bass bash and seeing young Mr Goodfellow do (some of) his thing! Nicely tweaked my fretless Stingray too, so he did!
 24.
Amazing empathy for the song and vocal melody from Jamerson. Interesting that Marvin wanted the bass amp placed so close to his piano. Anyone name that amp ? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y9KC7uhMY9s
Lovely version of What's Going On. I think the amp might be a Fender Showman with (I assume) a Showman cab. The amp looks a bit tall for a Twin Reverb... EDIT: Aha, thisnameistaken, you could be right - maybe a Bandmaster?
 25. For me, it has to be the Meshell track. I love that finger-funk groove she's laying down. Rocco rules, too! Nothing wrong with the Tamas Barabas track but I started to get a little bored with the repetitiveness. My foot was definitely tapping more to the Meshell track.
