T
Certainly sounds chorused, maybe double-tracked too? Or could be something like one of the Electro-Harmonix chorus pedals (Small Clone? Electric Mistress? etc.)...?
 2.
There was a good thread on Giblin just a couple of weeks ago, it turned out that a lot of what I thought was Giblin with Kate Bush was actually someone else! (namely on Wuthering Heights!)
In fact, Andrew Powell (Producer) is credited for Bass (and Celesta) on 'Wuthering Heights' although on the rest of the album (The Kick Inside), the bass was mostly down to David Paton (remember Pilot? ). On the 'Never For Ever' album, my favourite Kate album, Del Palmer also shared bass duties with John Giblin. She always surrounded herself with great players. 'Never For Ever' also included the excellent Alan Murphy (RIP) on guitar and Max Middleton on keys. Good stuff!
Maybe, but there's plenty of great Giblin stuff with John Martyn and Fish!
Yes, indeed. I had the pleasure of seeing John Martyn at The Dominion in '81 after the album 'Grace and Danger' came out. Giblin on bass and Phil Collins on drums. Great album. Great gig.
 3.
Quality playing with sooooooo much feel :-)
Yeah, ain't it though!
 4.
And now withdrawn. Sold elsewhere possibly?
Nope, just relisted. (Link above was to the previous listing finished earlier today). 5. Nothing new here, but I was doing a bit of Kate Bush tonight ( ) and just wanted to post a couple of her tracks featuring John Giblin's tastefully understated fretless playing - (imho, of course ) At times, if I'm playing fretless, someone will inevitably ask, "oh, d'you know that song by Paul Young...?" All due respect to Pino but I'll tell them I'd far rather be playing either of these two. Babooshka Breathing
 6.
one of new kings road guitars basses. They've had it a fair while!
Yes, indeed! No takers and listed once again. I'm wondering if/when they might drop the starting price.
 7.
Love this track, and especially the bassline, however I'm not sure what the bass is. Could be a Hofner Club bass You get a good look at it at 03:10. Awesome tone, IMHO.
I'd agree it's a 'Club' bass, without the pickguard. Yeah, nice tone. Damn-near perfect for this track.
 8. For any ELP fans with ten grand to spare! Not sure if this has been posted already. Re-listed with just a couple or so hours to go. No bids - surprise, surprise? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...E:B:WNA:GB:1123
 9.
I had a transluscent teal and it was hideous in the flesh - didn't look too bad in photos
To be fair they do probably look better under certain light.
 10.
Wow! Cheers. I've never heard of Gordon Edwards or Stuff before, but I think I need to have a listen to some of their tracks.
Indeed you do, sir! Yeah, Gordon Edwards was (still is?) a busy session player back in the day. There's probably some Stuff stuff(!) if I remember correctly here on BC. Funk and Groove thread probably... Youtube definitely.
 11. MMmm, nice! Transluscent Teal - one of my fave finishes on a Ray. I imagine as the seller is The London Guitar Centre, they won't be letting it go for too much below the BIN price. Think I'll add it to my 'Watch List' and see how it ends up. (If it sells on ebay at all, of course!).
 12. I had a feeling (oo-er missus!) and dug around a bit and can tell you it's Gordon Edwards on bass. You might be interested to know it's also Cornell Dupree on second guitar and Richard Tee on keys. The three of them, of course, all being members of Stuff.
 13. Oo, a nice pair indeed, sir! I'd normally ask which one you'd choose as your desert-island-bass, but from your post I can tell how much you love both of them, so maybe I shouldn't ask... Then again, maybe I will! So - which one would you choose as your desert-island-bass?
 14. Hellooooooo, Mr Soul! Brilliant news. Joe Vitale, from Joe Walsh's 70s band Barnstorm, is a great choice of drummer, too.
 15. I can't get Cheryl Lynn's excellent track, "Got To Be Real", out of my head as it's doing the rounds again on TV (M&S ad?) but I'm pretty sure it's already been posted here in the 'F&G' thread. So instead, especially as it's Toto backing her on that track, I thought I'd put up Toto's very own "Georgy Porgy" which originally featured Cheryl Lynn. However, this is an excellent live version from 1990. Lukather in fine form on guitar and vocal, dear Jeff Porcaro drumming; the band is cookin'! (Not sure who the female singer and two backing vocalists are. Apologies if Georgy is already posted here somewhere, too! )
 16. Although I could guess the song as soon as I saw the thread title, I must admit to not seeing this particular clip before. Some lovely complementary backing from RB and some knowing smiles from Janis when he inserted the odd flourish and harmonics.
 17. My name is Stingray5 and I am GASing for a GB bass! Especially after the last London bass bash and seeing young Mr Goodfellow do (some of) his thing! Nicely tweaked my fretless Stingray too, so he did!
 18.
Amazing empathy for the song and vocal melody from Jamerson. Interesting that Marvin wanted the bass amp placed so close to his piano. Anyone name that amp ? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y9KC7uhMY9s
Lovely version of What's Going On. I think the amp might be a Fender Showman with (I assume) a Showman cab. The amp looks a bit tall for a Twin Reverb... EDIT: Aha, thisnameistaken, you could be right - maybe a Bandmaster?
 19. For me, it has to be the Meshell track. I love that finger-funk groove she's laying down. Rocco rules, too! Nothing wrong with the Tamas Barabas track but I started to get a little bored with the repetitiveness. My foot was definitely tapping more to the Meshell track.
 20.
Well its still quite 'middy' compared to the the fenders. But that 18v preamp is a crazy horse. Its just so powerful. The bass and Treble EQ kicks the fenders into touch and with the added hi and low mid options (that I tend to keep the lows more dominent and the hi's cut quite a bit) its just tone overload for me. Plus the blend of the pups again just keeps you smiling with the sheer grunt you get from either pup depending on the eq setting of course. The playability of the bongo is just as perfect as my stingray was, however the jazz necks just fit so nicely. I seem to pick up the bongo more often however this could just be because its my new toy. The fenders are also nicer to look at ive been told (by everyone so far ) If i was to have 1 bass right now,,,its the Jag, however watch this space as I havent gigged or had full rehearsal with the bongo yet.
Can't say I blame you about keeping the Jag, given only one bass. I quite fancy one myself. I must admit it took me a while to get used to the look of the Bongo though when I tried some (incl 5- and 6-stringers) at a couple of previous music shows, I guess I was pretty much converted.
 21.
thanks for all the advice. I got myself an EBMM SUB from this site. Very pretty. Strings are very light but great action and intonation compared to the MIM precision that I have been slogging. thould really get myself a combo amp but I am reluctant to have both a guitar and bass amp. Anything to stop you having a guitar through a bass amp?
Nice one. Hopefully you'll be sorted in the bass department then. Nothing wrong with putting guitar through a bass set-up if you EQ it accordingly. A number of guitar players use a Fender Bassman head and cab. A drummist I work with had a Bassman 50 head with a 1x15 cab and it sounded great, particularly for Blues and Jazz and even a bit of Soul.
 22.
my new addition to the family
I'd be interested to know how the Bongo compares to your Jag and Aero basses. Will it become your 'go to' bass?
20th Anniversary SR4 - The feel of the neck is just amazing on this one. And you just gotta love that quilt.
I'm not sure what I fancy more - that quilt finish, or that girl in JTUK's avatar! Actually, I do know... it's......!?!
 23. The original "Oceans Eleven" featured the Red Norvo Quintet backing Dean Martin on "Ain't That A Kick In The Head". But I'm sure I've seen another movie that featured an appearance from Red Norvo with his old buddy Tal Farlow on guitar. Might have been a quartet or a trio. Anybody know what I'm on about? Bilbo? Anyone?
 24. Already posted to say I'm in but not on the updated list so I've added myself. Hope that's ok. I note Clarky and bottle not there either though they have said they're coming.
