Bass guitar shops local to London and South Essex
Stingray5 replied to essexbasscat's topic in General Discussion
Tom, have you been to Digital Village, off North Street, Romford, lately? Must admit, I've not had a chance to visit the store myself since the Victor Wootten night they recently hosted, but if that was anything to go by, they were certainly expanding their bass stock big time, compared to previously. And while you're in the Romford area, there's also PMT in South Street. That said, as previously mentioned though not really south Essex, it has to be Bass Merchant, Colchester. Cheers, Steve -
Ok, Si - so how did it go?

All Blues chords are 7th's, so just make sure you include the (dominant) 7th in your runs, too.

Pitfalls of setting the band up as a business??
Stingray5 replied to Jamesemt's topic in General Discussion
Sure but pay a pro about 2 wedding band fee's worth of money and you can get a great CMS driven effective website that drives your bookings hard enough to pay for itself easily in a few months and then generates bookings for decades...
No argument there, OG, but as Jamesemt mentioned 'problems with his software', I figured it was a case of DIY (for now anyway?) and wanted to point out there are at least alternatives to Word, etc! -
Pitfalls of setting the band up as a business??

Just thought I'd let you know your website links only seem to work in Internet Explorer (IE8), but not in Firefox, Chrome or Opera. This might not have mattered as much a few years ago but as IE no longer has the market share it once had, you could be losing out somewhat. Fyi, I'm on a PC running Windows XP and my own default browser is currently Firefox (3.6x). Looking at your source code (which is very bloated), it looks like the site has been put together using a Microsoft Office program (was it Frontpage, Word, Publisher?). There are better (and even free) ways to put a respectable website together. Hope this helps. -
Many thanks for the comments, folks; glad you like the pics.

Apologies for the delay in posting my Bass Bash pics, but here they be. Apologies also to anyone I didn't manage to capture! If I've not remembered any names or other details correctly, please let me know and I'll be happy to change it. Cheers and enjoy, Steve Mmmmmm, bass gear...! Click here for more London Bass Bash 2010 pics EDIT: removed 2 preview photos (links changed)

Oops - a quick apology to Tom (Essexbasscat). In my last post I mentioned the #1 GB bass (001) being brought along by Bernie himself. This is actually Tom's own bass, of course. (As noted in silddx's post above).

Phew, I'm all showered and pizza-ed(!) up and have come back down to planet Earth after what was an excellent day on planet Basschat (Friern Barnet division). Huge thanks of course to Tom (Essexbasscat) and Andy (Netballman) for the organizing and it was also good to meet with fellow BCers old and new. Massive thanks also to Bernie Goodfellow for coming along with a whole bunch of his basses -- including No.1! -- not to mention the EBS amps/cabs/fx he distributes. Not only that, Bernie also gave us a very interesting and comical talk on his truss-rods(!) after which he offered to set up any basses, at which point an orderly queue promptly formed! I'm going off to check out the pics I took and will aim to get them on here asap.

How cool is that? Extremely cool! That's how cool that is! -
Whoa, that is a beauty! The natural body with the maple fretless neck is one of the best combo's I've seen in ages. Congrats on snaggin' it...

John Entwistle's 1978 fretless Wal.
Stingray5 replied to matski's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
I love that page from a notebook listing who the basses were for ... and the spelling mistakes on it! 1121 went to Cafe Jaques 1128 went to Entwhistle 1132 went to Blue Oyster Col 1138 went to Straps 1143 went to Manhatan Transfer I saw Strapps at the Marquee in 1979 so I guess Joe Read was probably playing his Wal that night. Can't say as I noticed. I saw a LOT of bands at the Marquee in those days and I remember that gig as quite simply the loudest I ever experienced there. Horribly, nauseatingly, ear-bleedingly loud. Also puzzled to see 1119 listed as Alan Spenner of Voice Squad / Jim Capaldi ... I thought he was strictly Roxy Music at that time, and I didn't know he'd played with Capaldi. I've never heard of Voice Squad (? Vice Squad, maybe).
Yeah, I have to say I noticed that too, but it made for some interesting reading all the same. So many blasts from the past. In fact, among others listed, I still have the original Cafe Jacques vinyl album, remembering too that it was John G. Perry (ex-Caravan) on bass. Credited on 'Wal Custom Bass'. Cafe Jacques ("...Chris Rea meets Steely Dan..."!) have a Myspace for anyone interested. http://www.myspace.com/cafejacques As I remember it, Voice Squad was basically a continuation of Kokomo. I think I saw them two or three times in west London venues at the time (The Golden Lion, The Greyhound, etc). The most wonderful Alan Spenner played on at least a couple of Jim Capaldi albums around 79/80. -
I know one or two others were going to self-cater and I had it in mind to do the same, probably picking up a pasta salad type of thing from Tesco (or wherever) the day before. That said, if the majority prefer to have food provided on the premises, I'd go along with it. Could it be confirmed, say by Friday or Saturday, whether they are definitely going to be there please?

BC member Zoe did a nice job too. http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=55274

I have gigs Friday and Saturday but have managed to keep Sunday clear so, unless Pino or Marcus or Victor phone up in need of a dep, I should still be ok for this too. 51m0n - Congestion Charge runs Mon to Fri, 7am to 6pm. No charge at weekends or public holidays. I'm with previous suggestions, should there be any surplus dosh, donate it to charidee.

Thanks BE, you've made me dribble all over my desk and keyboard!

V. nice! I particularly like the finish on the Curbow. And a decent collection of pedals would seem to have most sounds covered.
