The switch is actually an active/passive switch so if the batteries are dead you should still be able to play on the passive circuitry. New batteries should make quite a difference. Hopefully that's all that's needed and you can get on and enjoy the bass.

Use decent alkaline's and remember to switch out the active circuit when not needed (lower of the two switches) and they last for ages. Just a thought but is there a possibility you could take things along the lines of an instrumental outfit whereby someone plays the vocal melody (i.e, guitar, keyboards)? This should keep everyone on track a lot easier and would be more enjoyable than everyone playing a 'backing track' type of thing -- and counting bar after bar! Apologies if this is jumping the gun a bit but you didn't say what sort of line-up it will be. Check out whether a guitard or keybored player would be able to take on the lead part. You never know - you may not need a singer at all. Think of all the headaches the band could be spared in that department!!

Wow, nice to find another Ambrosia fan here and thanks for posting these clips. I have the 'Life Beyond L.A.' album, too. Also have 'Road Island' (1982) with the excellent cover art by Ralph Steadman. I've always considered David Pack to be a hugely under-appreciated vocalist. I remember seeing something on TV years ago with him, Michael McDonald and (I think) Amy Irving working out some harmonies in the studio. Lovely stuff! Interesting to also see Joe Puerta using the X-Factor bass. You'll probably know another of my faves, Kenny Gradney/Little Feat, is big on these.

Gigs can mainly be on a Fri/Sat/Sun so I won't say which day I prefer. In that respect, I don't mind. If a gig should fall on the same day as the Bash, I'll still try and make it along but it will depend on the type of gig and how far away I am. As far as payment goes, of course there should be a charge. The SEBB was £10, which seemed fair to me. Is there going to be a raffle? If so, you might want to start a thread for contributions?

There are some good tips here (mostly), but even the most experienced of us can come unstuck at gigs. You'll learn from experience. Have spares of everything (leads, mains lead, strings, fuses, batteries, battery/fuse tester, tool kit, spare change, tea bags, etc. ) It's a well known fact that bass players are the most organized and are the saviours of any band. Bottom line: hope for the best, plan for the worst, have a good time and DON'T PANIC!

Yeah, I'd have to agree with ezbass and say where's the Stingray? Nice collection, all the same and it's making me miss my old Ricky even more. Actually, I'm also shy a P Bass in my own set. Oh well, so continues the GAS...
