I often will play a lower note on the B string along with it's octave, especially on longer sustained notes, ballads, power ballads, etc. Helps compete with keyboard players too! Ditto for the 6-string and I also like the extra vertical movement option this allows. And of course the tonal range. Plus chords on the 6-string sound great. Main thing is, surely it's one man's meat... Bread 'n' butter, even! So go with what ever you're most comfortable with and accept that -- thankfully -- we're not all the same. This week I will mostly be playing my Stingray 5 and Jazz basses.

Nice to see the Blade Jazz. I always did like these. I do like the Yamaha TRB's too (4, 5 and 6-stringers) - your 5's look particularly nice. Must admit I'm not too familiar with Cobelens basses but it looks very unique... and nice! All in all, a very nice set-up. I can understand you having a hard time deciding what to play. Did I say it was nice?
if your wondering why i sold her i bought a beautiful 79" fretless stingray that has completely blown me away, its actually having a new fingerboard fitted by Martin at the moment, she should be finished in about a week.
Wow - Sei no more! (ouch, sorry, couldn't resist! ) That Sei Jazz is a beaut, for sure, but I'd love to see some pics of the 'Ray that made you sell it, once you get it back.

I've played WITH Albert Hall. Nice fellah! Actually, depending where you are on the day, you know October 10th is also the day of the Basschat South-East Bass Bash. :brow:

Thing is, just about all those names in the OP originate from the US. They have such cool place names too that work when added to peoples names, for instance with Blues players, e.g., 'Mississippi' John Hurt, 'Memphis' Slim, etc. I guess 'Scunthorpe' Bert Higginbottom doesn't quite have the same ring to it!
I've just checked and it was Total Guitar, Issue 6 May 1995. I have a really bad b&w photocopy of the article. If you have a copy I'd love a decent scan (assuming you have a scanner of course). Wonder if there's a copy on ebay? EDIT - just checked, and there's everything but. Blast.
Ah, sorry, I don't have that particular issue of Total Guitar (I was mainly buying 'Bassist', 'Bass Player', 'Guitarist', 'The Guitar Magazine' at the time). That said, I checked through my old 'Bassist' mags and found a short series that started back in 1995 (Vol. 1, No.3) when they featured 'Guitarist' magazine's 1994 Bass Of The Year, a Sei Flamboyant 6 Headless (this was before 'Bassist' was launched). The bass in question was actually won by a lucky 'Bassist' reader (named in the article - maybe a current BC'er?) who gave a few requirements to Martin Petersen then had to sit back and wait while his bass was built. The series follows it's build across subsequent issues and finishes up with the final review by Roger Newell in the February 1996 issue. Others may well remember this and have copies but for those who don't and are interested to see this series, let me know and I'll scan the various pages and upload the images.
Yep, it was Yolanda. The bass was a Flamboyant 5, cocobolo top on maple with ebony board IIRC, with a Bart MM in the middle and a KA hot Jazz by the bridge. There was a feature on it in an old guitar magazine.
Nice one, 4000. Thanks for that. I did remember it was a Flamboyant style bass which was typically what caught my eye. Off to the vaults now to dig through a few old guitar mags -- unless you or anyone else knows the particular magazine?

Exceptional looking bass, B5! Years ago I remember seeing something on TV that followed the building of a Sei Bass for a pro female bass player. I can't remember the programme or indeed the name of the bass player (Gail Ann...? Yolanda...? Aired maybe late '80s, early 90's? any help here welcomed) but I have to say, since seeing that programme and how Martin Petersen came across even then, Sei Basses have always been my #1 bass to aspire to. Seeing the pics of your Sei Jazz has just further reinforced that aspiration.

Nice looking family you have there Twenty Six! I'm particularly liking the look of the black Stingray 5. Will you be gigging your new Jazz bass? I'd be interested to know how it compares with the MM's. (Not to mention the Warwick too, of course! )

Very very very very very very very very nice! Loving the Stingray (natch!), but that is one classy collection of basses you have there, b5. Did I say they were very nice?

Thought you might like to add another website/dealer to your bookmarks folder - GuitarAvenue Ltd This one's rather more specialised as he deals mainly with the more vintage and rarer instruments out there (guitars, basses, amps, etc). Current bass stock is a little low though he does have a few nice P and J basses at the moment. http://www.guitaravenue.com/
I'm so sorry to hear about someone trying to scam you. It must have been very upsetting, and I know how you must feel. Five years ago, my father was Finance Minister in the Republic of Gabon and was entrusted with $15,000,000 by the the then President. As you may know, the entire cabinet perished in an air crash when the pilot was poisoned by his wife's enemies. If you send me your bank details and a cheque for $2,000, I will open an account for you and transfer the larger sum. Then you send me $7,500,000 and we have split the money, yes? In the name of the Lord, I am begging you to do this for my 10 fatherless children. Happy is the man who sends me money and will wait several weeks before realising he has been done up like a kipper. Hosannah! The Reverend Mrs Anna Christensen Remobopse
What he said!
Anyone up for doing a lift share from London? I'm happy to get the train as I don't drive, but if there's two or three of us coming along from Laaandaaan it'd be cool to split costs etc, just a thought cheers Mike
Where in London would you be coming from, Mike? I'm in the far east! (far east London/Essex, that is!) and would probably do either Dartford (QEII bridge) or Blackwall Tunnel to pick up the M25 etc. Only other thing might be how much room for gear I have left! Steve
That will be when BGM gets delivered as a text then! And as for the font size, not sure - it's too small to read!!

I also think it has improved and will continue reading it, but with regard to your comments above - 1. As the album is called "The Seldom Seen Kid" then it isn't totally wrong to put the extra "the" in there, though it would have looked better had it been written "the making of the album The Seldom...", or even putting quotes around the album tiitle. 2. Agreed, though as schools have now been asked to stop teaching the "i before e except after c" rule I suspect it will get even more common. 3. Definitely - though due to the size font I use in my browser it looks like Bumel both times you have written it
1. I take your point and did think of that too. I have the album and even double-checked the 'The' was actually there in the first place. I agree it might have been better phrased as per your suggestion. Or just leave out the 'the'...! 2. Yet more dumbing down! It'll be the end of civilization as we know it! Jst wt til u strt rdng bass gtr mag n othrs all in txt spk! 3. Yikes, what size font are you using?!
