Not being greedy but... all of the above... plus Squire's Ric

Indeed I do. It was one of the reasons I signed up (...that and the Sci-Fi channel ). I often wondered what happened to it though suspected it was probably too specialised and lacked funding (advertising). Cheers Steve

Hi Geoff, welcome to BC. More pics of your Jazz's when you get a mo' please... Nice stuff on your Myspace page too - I'm certainly with you regarding your influences. Cheers Steve
Never heard Refugee before - there's some great rhythm section stuff going on in this track. J.
Yeh, Refugee was Jackson's project. (His own answer to Emerson, Lake & Palmer). Just to expand a little - He 'discovered' and brought in Swiss keyboard wiz Patrick Moraz (who later went on to join Yes). Drummer Brian Davison was Jackson's band-mate from The Nice. I remember the gigs at The Marquee where, among Moraz' array of keyboards, he also had a double-size metal bedframe complete with springs, up-ended, and fitted with contact mics. He would hit this with his hand(s) and send thunderous reverberations through the PA. Crazy, man! It looked odd but was pretty effective. Anyone else remember seeing Refugee at all? Steve

Not sure anyone has mentioned Lee Jackson (The Nice, Refugee, Jackson Heights) I saw Refugee a couple of times at the Marquee in Wardour St and IIRC he was using a blonde RIC 4001. Here's Refugee and some Prog-rock riffery on the OGWT with Jackson on a rather nice all-black 4001. (Bass close-ups from around 1:27 ). Very nice, uB. The 2007 looks a nice 2-tone. I was looking at a 20th Anniversary sometime back though was out of budget at the time. Still on the list though. I'll be interested to know how you get on and how they compare soundwise. Cheers and have fun! Steve
Is this for real? More than half the bassists I've known over my 29 year career have used plectrums, either 50-50 or exclusively. I'm getting thoroughly sick of people suggesting that there may be something a bit weird about using a plectrum. I'd have thought a lot more of the thread if it was just "name your favourite pick -style players", instead of making apologies about it. As for that last para, so far as I'm concerned probably 95% of my favourite-sounding bassists use a pick. Chris Squire, Lemmy, Roger Glover, Jon Camp, JJ Burnel, Glenn Hughes, Leigh Gorman and Joey DeMaio are some that spring to mind. Then there are bassists like Anthony Jackson, Steve Swallow, Bobby Vega etc etc, and guys like Cliff Williams, Scott Thunes, McCartney, John Entwistle....has Basschat been infected with Numptyflu or something????
Nope - I've had a good read through this thread so far and -- aside from the OP's slightly mis-guided caveat -- I can't detect any signs of pick-related Numpty Flu. Ah the dog, the dog, he's at it again....!
Did he ever make a bass book in the '80s ? Can't find it ,but I've got a fairly vague memory of this indstructional book which was mellow and laid back. Apart from that, don't know much about the guy. R.I.P. anyway
This one...?
Is it? The guy that played Bass on all the Hall & Oates stuff. Good tone. Who ever that was. Garry
T-Bone Wolk. Wow, I can't believe that just came straight to me. I didn't think I still had that many brain cells left! Steve

Give it up for Chris Squire of Yes. I thank you!

Of all the bands I must've seen over the years, I never did make it to a Soft Machine gig. The world will be a lesser place without his 'fuzzy loops'!

For those who may not be aware, I just received this sad news from the US: "...It is with great sorrow that I inform you of the passing away of Soft Machine bassist Hugh Hopper. He died in the early hours of Sunday morning. He had leukemia..." A small reminder: Hugh Hopper - 'Kings & Queens' http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Yo5F28gSag
I share my birthday with Steve Harris...s'pose it's better than Rolf
Ooh, I dunno. I have a lot of time and respect for Rolf Harris, especially considering his innovative version of 'Stairway To Heaven'! Not to mention his expertise on the Didgeridoo, Wobble Board and Stylophone. Even more so, with the paintbrush. Rolf rules! Steve

They say the amp worked ok after the drop. A demonstration of this would have been nice! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ySsSwmSq7wc Steve

I have to say that looks a superb job and with all due respect to how it looked before, the all-black look is so much better. Steve
Er... That's a precision
OUCH! Of course it is! You understand I spell precision, j-a-z-z.... <Waves goodbye as all credibility flies out the window>

Bass player is David Margen. He was with Santana around the late 70's/early 80's. Check him out here on the Santana 'Marathon' tour from 1979. He's using a fretless Jazz and check out the bass lick at 00:26... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yyp6H0eWI0M Cheers Steve

Just wondered who else might have seen this new bass website called 'For Bass Players Only'. (Or am I just late to this particular party!? ) http://www.forbassplayersonly.com/

Hey! I've revamped my bass gallery mini-site...
Stingray5 replied to wateroftyne's topic in Gear Gallery
Nice collection WoT. I got through a whole pack of Hobnobs! One thing that would make the page better, for me at least, would be a full length shot of each bass featured. But that's just me... Cheers, Steve
