'Fragile' is a brilliant album, along with 'The Yes Album' and 'Close To The Edge'. All huge influences for me at the time and still played regularly.

Yeh, a Hayman 4040. I had one of these in the early '70s and it was a very nice bass as I recall. Bought brand new for £155 (I think I still have the receipt somewhere!!) That's me with the Hayman at the East London Festival (c.1973/4). My bass rig behind me was an HH IC100 head and a HiWatt 2x15 bass bin (a big old bugger! ). Incidentally, can anyone recognise the bit of backdrop in the left of the picture and what (Prog rock) album cover it comes from?

Yeh, that's a nice early example. Easy to see why Fender soon changed the logo's around on later models!

I recently needed to replace the cable for my wireless unit battery pack. Thomann were the only ones who had it and I received the order within a week. Comms are very good too.

I'd prefer the sp to have been designed to finish nearer the neck so they could have then separated the pups a little more. The front headstock pic looks a bit compressed/stretched(?). The neck looks pretty regular in the other shots.

The Tokai is one of the instruments I do regret parting with. Hell, I'd like 'em all back really!

I was looking through a bunch of old photos and came across a few reminders of some previously-owned basses -- and a few guitars, sorry! -- which I thought I'd post here. These were owned from between the early 70's through to about the early 90's. Of those shown, the only one I still have is the Chappel classical guitar (bought 1980). Rickenbacker 4001 (bought brand new with case in 1974 for £325 from Music City in Shaftesbury Avenue, London). Sadly missed, I'd love to have this puppy back again!! Original Ned Callan 'Cody' bass (before Shaftesbury added their name to the headstock). Bought mid-70's then converted to fretless a few years later and added DiMarzio pup and coil-tap. Kramer 450B owned from early to mid-80's. l-r: Yamaha RBX 200F fretless bass; Casio DG-20; Columbus Tele copy (cheapie with high action used for slide); Chappel C-101 classical guitar; Ibanez Roadstar; Westone Thunder IIA bass (also greatly missed though I do still have her fretless sister!). l-r: Kramer 450B bass; Chappel C-101 classical guitar; Chandler P-J custom bass; Tokai 'Breezysound' (brilliant!) Following the 'Public Apology' thread, still very active as I write, I noticed at one point there were 27 viewers at one time looking in and I was just wondering if there are any stats as to what is/was the largest number of viewers looking at a thread at the same time? Has anyone else noticed this particular detail? (Or do I need to get out more? ) I don't know if this is something that can be tracked here anyway. I know we can see 'most users online' etc on the home page, but I was curious about individual discussions (as above). Mods? Cheers.

Lovely looking bass! For all the weird and wonderful, exotic basses out there, with however many strings we want to have - I see something like this and think, yeh, that's all you really need! Hope she plays as good as she looks!!

Ah, this just brought back the memory of seeing John Martyn on the 'Grace and Danger' tour back in 1981 at the Dominion Theatre, London. This was with another lovely fretless player - John Giblin. Plus Phil Collins on drums. Great gig!

Veeeery interesting! What's the weight of this bass? And how does it feel physically against your body when playing?

I did love the Sterling..wicked slap tone..[/quote] I've not had a Sterling though like 'em and may go for one in the future. For me, the StingRay does it all. It's a bloomin' workhorse! And with the extra low B string on the 5, it just expands the scope that bit more. Obviously a wider neck but not too wide (at least for me). In 40-odd years of playing I've had a ton of basses (and guitars), some I would dearly love to have back again, but the 'Ray has been with me up and down the UK and across Europe over the last 12 years and has honestly never let me down.
