Nice looking bass. Nice contrast of the maple neck against the black body & head.
-
Sounds very similar in style to George Duke's classic 'Brazilian Love Affair' album (which featured Stanley Clarke on bass).

Depending on how 'jazz' you want/need it to be.... My Baby Just Cares For Me - Nina Simone I Just Want To Make Love To You - Etta James Mack The Knife - various (incl. Bobby Darin) Fly Me To The Moon - various (incl. Ella Fitzgerald) On the Latin side -- and as long as you're including Santana -- Smooth - Santana Girl From Ipanema - Antonio Carlos Jobim w/ Astrud Gilberto ...or others by A C Jobim - Masquenada, Wave, Corcovado Cool stuff if you have time to learn them. The Jazz Cafe's a nice gig. Have a good one!

Forgot to add.... Cinema Paradiso - Ennio Morricone (surely the most-mentioned movie composer so far!) Koyaanisqatsi - Philip Glass Powaqqatsi - Philip Glass Escape From New York - John Carpenter

'My Head Hurts, My feet Stink And I Don't Love Jesus' by Jimmy Buffett Also - At their wedding, for their 'special first song', a couple asked my function band to play 'Hillbilly Rock, Hillbilly Roll' by The Woolpackers (apparently they were big fans of 'Emmerdale'...!!!)
Not a film, a TV series - "Edge of Darkness" by Kamen and Clapton.
Definitely! Great piece of music and some nice playing from EC.

Ah, this is a subject after my own heart. I second many of the previously mentioned titles especially Lord Of The Rings and Blade Runner. Here are a few more personal faves to recommend (in no particular order): Ennio Morricone - Once Upon A Time In America Ennio Morricone - The Mission Chinatown - Jerry Goldsmith Band Of Brothers - Michael Kamen (though a series and not a movie soundtrack as such but brilliant composition by the late Michael Kamen). Merry Christmas Mr Lawrence - Ryuichi Sakamoto The Falcon And The Snowman - Pat Metheny & Lyle Mays (s/t does include hit single 'This Is Not America', Pat Metheny with David Bowie) To Live And Die In L.A. - Wang Chung Dune - Toto & Marty Paich On Golden Pond - Dave Grusin The Thomas Crown Affair (orig.) - Michel Legrand Bullitt - Lalo Schifrin

From memory, the TB I tried years ago certainly didn't feel as though there was any presence of lacquer. It actually felt almost 'rough' to the touch; maybe it was a Friday afternoon job! Aside from that, it was a nice bass though I must admit I fell out of love with the Kramer for lack of the bottom end and not wanting to bother to upgrade the electrics etc.

If you have a tuner already, you might want to also consider something like this. Just plug into your existing tuner and clip the mic to your bass headstock. (certainly the cheapest solution!): http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/GUITAR-CONTACT-TUNER...p3286.m20.l1116

Seeing some of the older basses on Basschat is bringing back quite a few memories and your 450B is no exception as I had one for a couple of years around 1980-82. Yours looks in great condition and I would have even sworn it was my old bass - til I saw the back. I've not seen the string holes before as on the back of your bass. I checked out the page on the VintageKramer website but they only have 'front' shots. So I'm wondering if this was a retro-fit thing? Either way - nice! p.s. - I almost bought a Travis Bean ali neck bass guitar back in '80, instead of the 450B, though I heard that the all-aluminium rear of the neck was a bit of a sod to play in colder conditions when your hand would stick to the neck! (I think it was Mick Khan from the band Japan who spoke about this in an interview in one of the old bass mags).

I guess it's a case of "one mans meat...etc", but among other things I've had my Trace Elliot GP12SMX combo (1x15) for about the last 12 years and it handles my 4, 5 & 6-stringers just fine. Fretless too. The 12-band graphic is certainly better than the 7-band if you're using a 6-string - it has the low 30hz band for that B string (assuming you're tuning to low B?). xgsjx is correct, though, when he says earlier models are better. Good luck and hope you find the right one!

Who's coming to see Victor at the Jazz Cafe next week?
Ooooh, getting all excited now - Just booked my tickets, so will see you all there!
Rats! I'm sick as a proverbial wotsit, not being able to make this gig. Can tell you, I saw him in Atlanta a few years back, along with his brother Reggie on guitar (amazing duels with him) plus his other bro and cousin on drums and keys. Talk about a family band! Superb gig. If you've not seen him before, be prepared. If you have - well, you know what to expect... -
Sorry - have to agree with 'OutToPlayJazz', above. There's more substance, structure -- and smiles -- in this thread than in that song!
My bass has solid spindles, not splined or split. The knobs I got were these, which are 6mm set screw types. The same seller has other types, including splined.
Many thanks for the information.
My, that's tasty! When I strike it rich... Japan, here I come. That might tempt me in to my first 6-er. I don't think I'd mind those knobs, much nicer than the cheap & nasty ones that mine came with.
Thanks m8 - glad you like it. Nice chord possibilities with a 6, too. I did a bit of digging on ebay re the gold knobs and found some at 'guitarpartsworldwide' (Item number: 130212540133). I was wondering where it was you found yours and how these compared. Also curious, are yours the 'grub screw' type? Or do they push on to the control post (split-type)? I'm not so familiar with the later Tune basses.

Hi Tune-smiths! As a recent newcomer to BC, having a general look around, I'm pleased to have found at least a couple of other Tune users here. I got my Tune TWB-6 back in '96 from the Bass Centre, London, and love it - both the look and sound. It's a Japanese model from I believe 1995, though could be earlier. The bass has been with me for gigs/tours around the UK and Europe and not let me down apart from needing a new barrel input a year or so back. bnt - great looking TWB43 you have there - and I love the gold knobs. I've resisted any mods up to now but seeing that, I may just have to go for it... Cheers, Steve.

Mmm, looks nice. Was this an Ibanez?
Nice Tune. That's a Japanese one isn't it?
Certainly is.
A late 90's Jazz...love them!
Yeh, it's a real nice player. Colours nice too - Metallic Aquamarine (...oo-er missus! ) Only thing is, I'm debating whether or not to upgrade the pickups for a bit more 'poke'. That said, it's nice as it is, so guess I'll wait and see. As they say, if it ain't broke... don't fix it... Cheers, Steve.
lovin the sr5, nice basses you have there
Thanks, Kev. Yeh, the sr5 is a real beauty and has never let me down. A real workhorse. Mind you, I must be preaching to the converted as your own sr5 looks v. nice too.

First 'proper' bass was a Hayman 4040, bought on the 'never-never' around 1970/71 for £145 from Sound City, London (Shaftesbury Avenue). Sadly, long gone but here's a pic of the exact same bass I had, complete with smoked perspex pickup covers:
