  1. ...and also £44 cheaper than the relatively recent Boss WL-20 (new). But I managed to pick up a pair used for sub £90 and am totally loving the form factor and ease of use! I used a Smoothhound for several years, including playing live with my bands and got on with that just fine; it's great piece of kit and Chris (proprietor) provided sterling customer service. Tbf I mostly had a fairly simple set up of bass --> amp, without digital pedals adding any latency. The WL-20s have even less latency than the SH and are brilliantly compact. Should give me a bit of scope of adding a few digital pedals into the mix post lockdown without the audience storming off because I sound like I have slap-back delay on every track. If the HB's don't hit the spot for you John - worth checking the Boss WL-20s as your next port of call. They really are very neat. In the meantime enjoy your wireless freedom 😊.
  2. A couple of clips from these two pedals: Boss SY-1 (Strings - setting 10) Zoom B1-4 (Z synth - "MJ" default patch) SY1 - Str10.wav B14 - MJ.wav
  3. Not a bad shout. I did exactly that with my Mesa M6 combo (stock pic) and I now pair the M6 head with a Fearless F112 cab. I even managed to move on the PH212 cab with space for an amp in the combo housing separately, which helped fund the new cab.
  4. Lovely example of a fantastic bass! GLWTS.
  5. Tell me about it! So hopefully I'm forgiven for my school boy error in mixing this lot up?! That is the by far the least "helpful" thing you could have said 😁
  6. Ah ok thanks @la bam. I was indeed thinking of the Fusion S500, thanks for clearing that up. Just to add to the confusion the Fusion S series also has 3 12ax7 tubes in its preamp. But a D class power amp section. The S 800 looks very tasty, but has a price tag to match!
  7. 12lbs rather than 12kg (= 26lbs), though, right?
  8. Not sure it will necessarily change your mind about the TecAmp in terms of being sufficiently / any better, but the Berg CN really is an outstanding 212 and if you get a chance to give one a spin I would heartily recommend.
  9. Out of interest you ever A/B'd with a Berg CN212?
  10. In fact, there has only ever been one bass that has consistently improved the perception of a bass player in the eyes of the world at large. And FWIW it's not a Yamaha or a Sadowsky or a KS. With the crime of rhyme, you must wonder what could it possibly be, other than almost certainly a... 😁
  11. Most importantly the design was done by a chap by the name of Johnny Ive.
  12. Nope, I didn't anywhere say I personally wouldn't notice the difference. A KS makes a German Sadowsky look cheap; it's beautifully made. But it wouldn't make me a better bass player as far any band or audience is concerned. And surely you don't disagree agree that iPhones are made in China? 😉
  13. Doesn't sound at all like a fair fight then! 😉
  14. I'll happily pit my £500 Chinese made Yamaha BB against your German (or USA) made Sadowsky P and assure you that no pub audience will notice the difference 😁 But put the exact same basses in the hands of Kinga Glyk and I suspect no stadium audience would notice the difference either. I don't buy the concept of a "world class bass", but there are clearly world class bass players! I think you'll find that basses end up sounding pretty much like the men and women who play them. Obviously we all have more or less money to spend on our gear and can get our basses accordingly. Oh and the Chinese make some fantastic high-end gear - ever heard of an iPhone?
  15. Ah yes TecAmp - I've heard the 212 used before and they're great. Is your 112 also a TecAmp?
  16. Interesting that Talkbass's server fire issue has followed hard on the heels of this one: Millions of websites offline after fire at French cloud services firm | Reuters Even though some of these guys had back up facilities in London, it's taken them a full month to get things up and running again. Does suggest that there is more vulnerability in the system than server providers are willing to admit.
  17. Out of interest why a Deep Impact and not a Future Impact, when the FI does everything that the DI does and soooo much more?! (And a used FI seems to typically be half the price of a used DI!)
  18. Guys come on - I think the point has been made with civility early on, but watching this descend into a pack of trolling BC'ers is frankly very unpleasant. We're better than that. Greg - I've now watched your video and checked your YT channel. Great job for the time and effort you've put into spreading the word about bass to a wider audience and fantastic that you're up to nearly 4K subscribers. I hope that you and all the musicians on this thread, who've had a torrid time financially over this past 12 months, get to see some light at the end of the tunnel really soon.
  19. You'll need to remind me what the make / model of both your cabs are as it's probably been at least a couple of years since you told me and I'm afraid my memory isn't that good!
  20. Sounds like we have a mutual love of 212s. What make / model are your 212 and 112? Yeah, trigger has been well and truly pulled. Agent Moscow-Bass cannily spied that the used AT212 at BD had been sold and confronted me with the evidence...my cover was blown (albeit on a forum currently suffering server outage issues)!
  21. Some seriously tidy kit on there, some of which won't come up too often at all. GLWTS
  22. Manchester based band and our own @MDWagstaff's former crew - he kindly shared a track he'd played on the Yammy thread. I went on to listen to Night Light and OMG immediately fell in love with Matt Jones' vocals! For me, it had a touch of Brad Delp (Boston, More than a Feeling) vocal quality about it.
  23. Just looking at the cab (the normal/non-slim AT212 4ohm to be precise), rather than the GR heads: my DG M900, having had a bit of attention as you know, should be just fine for a while yet. And I suspect that the GR head light show could be a distraction! I'm intrigued by any 2x12 4ohm cab that is the same weight as my 1x12 8ohm BF BB2, which until now was lightest in its field, given its full frequency range and power handling (the BF Super Compact being a cut down version on both of these fronts). I've always felt that 2x12 seemed to be the perfect set up for me, as a one cab solution, but portability (again as you already know!) was the constraint for me starting with my Mesa PH212 and ending with the Berg CN212, but which were frankly both superb cabs. From what I've heard from @johnpaulbassthe GR cabs are even more FRFR than Barefaced (he had the Super Compact previously) so it will be going in the opposite direction to the sweeter, more coloured, Mesa and Berg 212 cabs I previously had. But @MOSCOWBASS, having been a BF cab user for a decade, has recently moved to a GR Aerotech rig and so far has also been very positive, so it augurs well.
