Yammy have been using laminate body design for a while. And same for their necks. Nothing new in that for them and partly why you will find precious little complaint about construction quality from their army of happy fans!

Having had both Cioks and OneSpot (both excellent btw), I've also been very happy with my HB Iso-5 which is definitely 'quality budget'. I've just seen they've also got an Iso-12 out which puts out a full 3A but with twelve isolated outputs. Could be just the ticket for a slightly larger board build for more than the 7 pedals I've got on my current board anf which the Iso-5 handles really well. Only issue I have is the Iso-12 is slightly 'higher' at 192 x 70 x 30 mm (vs the tiny Iso-5 at 110 x 60 x 20 mm) and not sure I'd have enough clearance below my Metro 24 board. @jjl5590I noticed you had managed to swap out the 'bolted' rubber feet on your Metro board for ones with better clearance which you've screwed in - was that a pretty easy 'hack'?

Always been tempted by Overwaters - how did you rate it?

Know what you mean. 1" can make a surprising amount of difference in terms of getting used to the hand-stretch and I don't have particularly small hands. My Spector has narrower string spacing (17mm / 35" scale) which helps in terms of overall stretch, but still took a little getting used to even compared to my Yammys (18mm / 34").

@knicknack (aka Switcharoo?) - loved the format of that comparison video: great job! The OC-5 pretty much nails the OC-2 to my non-connoisseur ears. From your further comment, also cool that it has more headroom on the sub-only setting vs the familiar volume loss on the OC-2. Why go boutique when you can go Boss and for a fraction of the price? 😁
-
Well we obviously need 'proof' in the form of some pics 😁 How are you liking it so far and how does it stack up against your other basses? I'm loving the fact that several have gone straight in with some of the top end models as your first taste of Yammy BBs!

Agreed with @itu The current draw for the Stomp may well be < 3A though: How to power Line 6 HX Stomp, HX Effects and others with CIOKS DC7 - YouTube At 13.26 he provides a summary of power draw for the various Line 6 multis and is suggesting < 1amp for the Stomp. However this is just in power-up mode. I suspect if you are using patches that require full fat DSP utilisation then the power consumption would increase (although I'll leave that to more expert engineers amongst us e.g. @Woodinblack to confirm), but even then I'm not aware of other folk having problems with using just two outputs from the DC7, which provides circa 1.3A output, having issues with powering either their Helix HX Effects or Stomps.

"Wall of shame" on the OP updated. This is fast becoming the single most popular model owned by BCers! Do you have any other Yammy BBs or is this your first? Has Mrs Santa allowed you to play it or are you going to have to wait for Thursday at one minute past midnight? 😁

Yeah completely relate - and the worst for me was when I played my first couple of gigs with a 5er and found myself on the wrong string. Sudden loss of confidence / playing 'air bass' till the end of that particular song - lol! Started playing 5's pretty much exclusively after that to get my muscle memory in shape but soon realised I was enjoying the added positional 'freedom' and didn't want to go back to a 4...
-
Haha - I know. And that was a genuine answer! 😁 5 strings I've played: Yamaha, Ibanez, Warwick, Fender, Ken Smith - have all been 34" Spector - 35" And then you've got the additional fan frets with up to 37" for the low B.
-
Depends on brand. You'll find more 34" though, I suspect.
-
Big fan of Ibanez - but my (very positive) experience is limited to their SR premium range, so I have no idea how good a bass this is: Ibanez Talman TMB35 Short Scale Bass Mint Green (guitarguitar.co.uk) But going on the fact of being an Ibby fanboi... Short scale √ Good price √ 5 string √ Light - likely to be if the rest of the Ibby range are a guide. Good B string...no idea! There have been a couple of busy short scale threads recently so worth visiting those. One take away for me was several comments about the sound being a little muddier on short scales due to less harmonic complexity vs standard 34" scales. Obviously there will be exceptions to that rule!

Stepping up from a Stagg EUB - recommendations please!
Al Krow replied to Al Krow's topic in EUB and Double Bass
The NXT kit definitely has a big fan base (for good reason) but DB and in my case EUB on a single pin just has that greater intimacy / dare I say showmanship which can be a cool part of the audience engagement. -

Just listening to them now. What a rich, full sound! Love it! But how much is the kit and how much is the magic ingredient: your fingers?....😁 -
Great, thanks. Is there an up to date list of bass amps & cabs and effects you can share with us? Yeah - not too bothered about presets, I tend to find that I end up creating my patches from scratch anyway!

My turn for a mini thread de-rail! I'm trying to work out the year of manufacture for a Yammy SLB-200 (definitely not a BB - haha!). Serial number is 005390 - any ideas? I'll drop the Yammy store in London a message too, to see if I can glean anything from them.
-
@Nail Soup - this one by them was a staple of our sets for years...
-
Worth noting that Hotone are the same guys who brought out the XStomp...which kinda bodes well for the quantity / quality of the FX that's going to be available.
-
Definitely worth getting your hands on a high end bass and trying out before taking the plunge (in fact any bass if you can, although the downside risk is clearly going to be a lot less with the more budget basses). Obviously how I found the BS Attitude was my own take on that particular model and plenty of others may have had the opposite reaction. For the record, and as you will likely already have gathered (!) I was totally NOT underwhelmed by the BB NE2 which I managed to get hold of, used, a couple of months after that particular trip to the Yammy store; and I've since happily resisted several unsolicited offers to take it off my hands!

Thanks 40 Hz is quite a low Bass EQ centre point - same as on the Markbass LM2/3. Interested that Mesa went for this on the new series - they had it at 55 Hz on the Carbine series (I've got the M6) and have a very sophisticated EQ just on the bass control, which effectively includes an HPF in the cut: The BASS control is actually a gain and frequency control all rolled into one with the Q center at 55Hz and harmonics in both low and high directions are affected because of its broader band nature. As the control is increased past 12 noon there is a 6db per octave rise in gain with the frequency topping out at 321Hz. With 12 noon straight-up representing “flat” (a no boost/no cut setting). As the BASS control is dialled below 12 noon, 55Hz and all associated harmonics are reduced and eventually notched completely out of the signal. Conversely, there is a 6db per octave cut beginning at 55Hz going down to 20Hz where the shelving ends with a cut gain of -20db as the control approaches 7:30pm (off). PS In terms of what you're doing it seems to me you're therefore boosting at 40 Hz centre with the result that most significant cut from your HPF will be 30Hz and below i.e. effectively clearing out low end crud. That's pretty similar to the job that my Thumpinator is doing.

Tbf one of the reasons why a quality multifx (e.g. IMO Helix or better, I wouldn't trust my Zoom to do pitch shifting well) or a decent pitch shifting pedal (e.g. Digitech Whammy) can be a great workaround for the 4 string player - allowing you to change key at the press of a stomp switch.
-
Yeah - that's the solution we ended up "enforcing" after the occasion that he broke a string just as we were about to play an encore! Absolute vibe killer!
-
Or in my case while he plays tap dance on his pedal board between songs, or restrings having broken yet another one...😁
-
With you completely on this one Mark! "Ladies and gents, please stop dancing while our bass player detunes for the next song. Oh and the same after this next number when he tunes back up. We apologise in advance to any disruption to the party vibe..."
