Or just get a new bass? 😁 (Sorry couldn't resist). But seriously, there's clearly wisdom in what @krispn is saying.
-
Try it. Get one that gives you that "wow" factor used if you can, then any financial downside should be limited if doesn't work out. What have you got to lose?
-
Maybe put a wanted ad up in the "items wanted" section if you would prefer a Legend and see what's available? Picking one up used, assuming its in decent condition, is a great way to dip your toe into the water.

Aww, if you haven't already, please get a Valeton OC-10 and let me know if you can hear any difference to your OC2s. I'd lend you mine if it was still in my possession!

Best bass strap for back issues and weight distribution
Al Krow replied to funkyjimbob's topic in Accessories and Misc
Ah ok - mine is the P7 version of the very same bass - and I have to agree with all the positive comments about the bass. Sounds like yours is at the heavier end or vice versa with mine. -
I did just that. But stopped when I got down to 10 😁 "Unfortunately" I can come up with a good reason for all of them (e.g. just a fantastic piece of kit that I'm lucky to own, fretless, PJ, 8 string, 6 string, EUB, budget for pub gigs etc.) Maybe I could get rid of a couple, but I suspect I'd miss them when they're gone, not least 'cos I find the tonal variety each brings to the party seems to keep them ALL fresh. Dunno if that makes sense? In principle, I guess not too different to someone having a lot of different cabs or a large pedal board. But what I find works for me is that, now I have a set of basses I'm really happy with, if anything new tempts me (at a comparable price point) I find myself asking would that be something I'd trade for one of my existing basses? It's been a really effective GAS killer!

Best bass strap for back issues and weight distribution

Anyone know what strap Mark is using in this thread? Looks super comfortable! @Bobthedog have you got a v1 or v2 Sire? The v2 V7 and P7 seemed to have shaved a bit of weight which makes them much more comfortable to wear. My P7v2 5er is a svelte 4.4 kg. -
Really tricky one, as they are both great makes! I've not had the BB234, but a fair few of the rest ot the range. I've had a Legend which impressed me so much I upgraded to the Euro LX and I suspect I couldn't go back to the Legend now. I think the answer may boil down to which mode you generally prefer to play, passive or active? If passive, go for the Yammy, if active the Legend. Nice thing is, I suspect you won't be disappointed with either!

I guess the relevance to this thread is the ability of the Tele to do polyphonic octave up with zero latency! Won't fit on my pedal board though 😁

Good (bass) intentions you didn't get around to during lockdown
Al Krow replied to Al Krow's topic in General Discussion
Well the original heading was defo ambiguous, so I've tried to steer it back onto bass stuff (otherwise it properly belongs on "Off Topic"), so no need to apologise! Sounds like a win-win. Good for you. -

Good (bass) intentions you didn't get around to during lockdown
Al Krow replied to Al Krow's topic in General Discussion
I'm forming a bass luddites' club for folk who find themselves capable of only doing the basics, like playing the bass 😁 -
Lot's of good intentions to get to grips with bits of kit that have been lying around for a while, but it's still not happened! If it didn't happen during lockdown, when many of us will have had some spare time on our hands, is it worth finally admitting that it's not ever gonna happen - in my case PC editing of multifx / quasi multifx pedals (Helix, Source Audio) and it's time to bite the bullet and get some of this waiting-to-be-used kit moved on? The flip side, I guess is that maintaining motivation has been harder than I thought with no gigs in sight! Started well, but it's definitely got harder to stick at it as the lockdown months have continued. Any of you guys feeling the same, or are we giving up on good intentions too easily? Or are some of you in the opposite camp and have been able to make great use of the extra time to get better as bass players - if so, what's been your secret? PS - mainly thinking about bass related stuff rather than off-topic, but feel free to share whatever!

I had one. Octaver is fine. The synth is now very dated tech and quite limited compared to current competition. If you're just after a value for money octaver, check out the Valeton OC-10.
-
I'm feeling a whole lot better about having 3 cabs (two being BF) already!

It's Zoom's patch editor - much easier for getting everything onto one screen shot than ToneLib; but other than for doing that, the consensus seems to be that ToneLib is the better editor for actually using in practice and also allows patch sharing between users.
-
That Ibby looks and sounds great! Seems like you have a particular 'look' in your basses - would I be right in saying that your Aria SB700 is pretty similar styling wise (ignoring the actual wood finish you've gone for)?
-
Yeah, but we all know how much you like gravy! Lol!

Thanks! That's a nice idea. Based on likely timelines for book usage based on reliable past experience... ...we should get that thread going in summer 2023.- 103 replies
