@sykilz - sorry to hear about the back pain. 5 string basses will have heavier neck to body weight ratios than 4 string basses and more potential for neck dive. Ibanez make some excellent basses: lightweight, quality build, and very playable necks. I do prefer their SR Premium range over the Standard range mainly due to the Nord Big Singles in the Premiums. Alongside my BB1025 my Ibby SR1825 has been my goto gigging bass for the last 18 months. Just be aware that Ibanez typically have relatively narrow 16.5mm string spacing on their 5 string basses (other than some recently released models), which can take a little getting used to.

The stock ones it arrived from Andertons with. Not sure they ever told me what they are. I'll likely be swapping to my usual D'Addario Nickels 170-5 when the time comes.
-
Looks like not too many 235 owners on here. But frankly I'd be gobsmacked if you found it to be anything other than a very well put together bass and excellent value. I guess we're going to need hear back from you rather than vice versa!
-
Great, thanks! Looking forward to having a listen. You're definitely living the creative dream (said from the perspective of an amateur covers band bassist). Are you guys full time pros or "just" doing it as a serious side line?

Tell us a bit more about this recording session you've just done @Paulhauser sounds good!

Haha, indeed! But the rest of my post was not entirely humbug either, was it?!

Anyone able to recall / know what the steepness of the cut on the Vong is?

Some helpful comments on the TonePump and TonePump Jr in the attached thread: These really are excellent basses aren't they?! But it's a slippery slope et cetera...😁 I dipped my toe with a used Spector Legend Custom 5er, which was apparently one of the higher end Legends and unusually had a 3 band EQ. Liked it so much, it got me thinking what a EuroLX5 might be like and when Andertons had a couple of new old stock on for a really good price (by Spector EuroLX standards anyway!), I jumped. Zero regrets and it's been a serious GAS killer for me: I kinda find myself looking at comparably priced basses to my Spector and thinking, would I trade? Which seems to be a pretty good test in my books. So far the answer's been a resounding nah, I'd definitely keep the Spector!

On the Zoom you can max out the lows with the EQ, but a rat drive is notoriously low end draining so you still lose a lot of low end even with the bass EQ maxed. It's otherwise a great drive tone though! I think some of the stand alone rat tail drive pedals have a clean blend to deal with this.
-
Yup, dannybuoy also warned me about this producing a "comb filtering", which I think is the same as you're referring to. But I listened out for that and if it's there, I certainly couldn't detect it.
-
@MartinB I think you've summarised it well, thanks. Even with say 70% dry there's a noticeable loss of low end, to my hearing anyway. The LS2 does a much better job of blending in clean, and in that case it's actual / genuine/ bona fide clean!
-
It's a digital blend within the sim itself on all the Zoom pedal sims, not a parallel path clean blend (which is possible on the much more expensive Helix multis). Such a digital blend won't stop drive sims, particularly tasty rat tail, sucking out low end.

There's a few on this thread: Zoom patch ideas,

The post below got me thinking about the very short loop time and general meh status of loopers on both my Helix and Zoom multis, which provide a max of 60secs or 30secs loop time respectively. A bit pants, right? Came across this nifty little pedal today, the Lekato Loop Station, which seems worth checking out. 40 mins total recording for 9 loops. Max per single loop = 10 mins. Unlimited overdubs, LED display including showing how far through any particular loop you are. Ability to load backing tracks from PC and store your loops on PC via micro USB. Built in tuner. And at just £33 on eBay, I couldn't resist ordering one although I guess there will potentially be 20% VAT and £12 handling charge on top, so more like £52, but still seems like a lot of pedal for the money. By comparison, the similar sized TC Ditto with a total of 5 mins recording time is around £75; but the Lekato seems way more feature rich.

I think the 5ers have significantly flatter necks than the 4 string Yammys, so I'm not sure we can do a straightforward read across from the 4s to the 5s? I did have both a 425 and 735A but not at the same time and I don't currently have either in my herd, so I'd be hard pressed to give an accurate comparison; but I've found all the necks on my Yammy 5ers very comfortable indeed to play. Might be worth sharing that the BB425 is the only bass I've ever had sufficient seller's regret to replace!
-
That's a seriously nice collection. Back in the day, before lockdown was a thing and bands played live music, we would have described your four Yammys as "a full Trav". But he's since been seduced by Sadowskys... You just need a BB P34 to round that collection off. And when you do, let us know. I can put you in touch with a chap who is definitely going to sell his. We'll at some point. Or maybe not. But get him on the right day...

Haha, won't find a new one with the 40P5 / 40TWX combo. I think best bet might be to get hold of a decent quality used Euro LX5 at a decent price. The ones currently in the FS are a little too pricey unfortunately, whereas the LX4 which is in even better condition than either LX5 is on for a better price and willing to take offers, but I'm only after a 5er. Typical eh?!
-
Just really enjoyed having both 40TWs in humbucker mode with neck pup on 10/10 and bridge on 5/10 to add in a slice of sweetening mid-cut. Now wondering if the hassle and expense of replacing these pups with the 40P5 and 40TWX is actually going to be wise move, or whether to double down and load these pups on a different Spector body at considerably greater expense! Decisions, decisions...

I'm kinda intrigued that a BB 1024 got snapped up within 24 hours of being listed. OK let's maybe clarify that - given what a big fan of these basses I am, that in itself doesn't surprise me! What I'm more surprised at is that it got snapped up ahead of a more recent build vgc 734A, listed by one of our thread regulars, which does pretty much everything the 1024 does and then some with its active circuit, particularly as there was just £100 between them. Put it down to colour finish preference? Or are BBs "famous for" being passive basses and active capabilities, where present, ignored?
-
Hah - yes I forgot about it being a really neat tuner with LED lights which are ideal for poorly lit stages, I guess I now just take that for granted! Needing to use a decent USB lead seems to be common for a lot of folk (me included) with the B1 - I had exactly the same issue. The one tip I would share is that the drive sims tend to lose a fair bit of low end on the Zoom multis and as it's not possible to parallel route the effects to allow you to properly blend in some clean to your signal, I've solved that by using a Boss LS2 pedal and putting the Zoom into the Boss's parallel loop.

+1 ^^ You'd be hard pressed to find a more capable bass pedal for the money. And that's before you discover it's a great headphone amp, with a really useful drum machine built in! Agree that a lot of the existing patches aren't worth bothering with. The fun and the value from this pedal is creating your own, tailored to what you want / need. Downloading the free editing software makes creating and saving patches a breeze. Zoom provide this, but folk who have tried both generally seem to prefer the (also free) ToneLib software. There's a separate thread with Zoom patch ideas, which it might be worth checking out. Enjoy!

A great idea to put on a mini board 😉

Oooh lovely! That does look grand - I'm a bit partial to a neck through myself. My only hesitation with the Corts is whether the pups they use would be overly polite for my currently less than polite taste, so I'd be interested to hear your thoughts on it - do let us know how you get on with it and how it stacks up against the rest of your herd. Oh and have fun getting to grips with a 5er. Does that mean we're gonna have to call you Bead from now on in? 😁

What did you get? Pics please!
