  1. Really liking the thinking here, but by the time you've got this set up would it not make more sense to have simply got a capable multifx, with the added benefits of parallel routing, EQ, limiter, pitch shifting etc for less money and smaller overall footprint?
  2. Sounds like a noticeable upgrade over your 2i2 Gen 1! Where, in particular, are you finding the differences? My 6i6 is also Gen 1 ...hmmm!
  3. I'm going to take the 5th on that one 😁 This one's for you, Dave.
  4. Ahh the Bangles, great songwriters, great band!
  5. Here you go. Changing the EQ does what you would expect in terms of cut / boosting particular frequencies, but in terms of core tone I found it pretty subtle and certainly nothing that has me reaching for my credit card! Be interested to hear from any BB1200 / 1200S owners if this comes close to emulating their bass tone?
  6. Gotcha. And hence the need for additional ADAT inputs on your ID14.
  7. +1 ^^ And so well put together visually, as well. Just epic!
  8. Be interested to hear if folk think the Claret is worth the extra?
  9. That's an excellent post, thanks @Kiwi The only point that I do have to disagree with you (big time!) is that EMG pups are sterile but you also mention lack of coil splits in the next sentence. I wonder if the more current range EMGs have dealt with your concerns? I have EMG 40TW (or 40CS-TW) in my Euro LX5 and they deliver a fantastic punchy tone pretty much in the sweet spot between two of my other goto basses. I feel like I'm getting the best of both worlds with the Spector, which takes elements of the harmonic richness of my Yammy alnicos and the meaty growl of my Ibby SR's Nord big singles. However, picking up on your split coil point, the EMG 40TW are indeed split coil pups and provide the option of both a single coil and a humbucker. The single-coil mode is their JCS pickup built with ceramic magnets and steel pole pieces. The humbucker mode is their ceramic steel (‘CS’) dual-coil for a big, aggressive sound with a pronounced mid-range. A push/pull volume pot allows me to switch. A combination I really like is clarity of a J neck pup blended with the fatness of the CS bridge humbucker which seems to nail it for me.
  10. When home recording do folk often lay down more than two tracks at a time? I would have thought typically you kick off with the drums and then layer over the rest? I guess if you need two mic inputs you could do this with the Audient ID14 instead of the ID4. The other option which we've not really mentioned on this thread on the Focusrite front is to consider going from the budget Scarlett range to the Clarett 2Pre, which would seem to be fairer head to head with the Audient ID14 in terms of price and quality.
  11. Your pal has been exceptionally well advised then! Can't fault the choice of either in terms of bang for your buck.
  12. Agreed that's a shame about the loss of that unlined fretless KS to posterity! WARNING - BRIEF SPECTOR BASS FANBOI INTERLUDE...! In what sense does your Spector do the job better? Whilst both are great basses, they are definitely not the same tonally or in build.
  13. Very good! Now try getting your head around parallel universes with time going backwards!
  14. Your understanding is correct that they are not out and out light basses, in the way that Ibanez SRs are, or basses making use of slightly softer woods e.g. some Sandberg models. The version 2 Sires do seem to be a little lighter than the v1s, though. I had been warned to expect around 11lbs by a v1 owner, but my v2 P7 5er weighs in at a very manageable (for me) 9.7 lbs - should be pretty similar to the weight of a Jazz.
  15. That can't be correct. We have it on good authority that pretty much all Sire bass owners sell their basses within 2 to 3 months. 😁

    Advice please

+1 for the Zoom B1-4 and B3N. I've had the latter and currently have the wah pedal enabled sibling of the B1-4, the B1X-4. You won't find better in terms of capability at such a good price point.
  17. Is that still your current line up? Very tasty!
  18. Ah, in that case, you're perfectly entitled to play the bass how you want and not how Ken has ordained 😁
  19. From the KS website: Active & Passive: If your Battery goes dead during a performance you can lift the Volume control knob to bypass the active circuit. This feature is recommended for emergency use only. The volume pot ‘push-pull’ feature does not have the same durability as a standard toggle switch. 😁
  20. Yup that's you and maybe also be true for lots of other folk. I sold a Yammy P35 and 735A precisely because they were more expensive (and a little heavier) but only marginally better and very similar tonally to my excellent BB1025; I didn't want expensive gear lying around that wasn't going to get used because another of my herd could do the job just as well. I have been offered very good prices and have been tempted to sell my two prize basses. Albert Rigoni sells more basses than anyone I know on BC. They're pretty much all high end. I don't think you can generalise - it's going to be very individual.
  21. Oh believe me, I'm a huge fan of form. If it looks great and has wow factor, as well as plays and sounds great I'm going to be as weak kneed as the next BC'er. And obviously what wows me won't necessarily do for the next person but thank God for that, otherwise the price of Spectors would go through the roof 😁 I just don't give a fig that it doesn't have a 🦋 on the headstock. But that's been my common experience of the attitude of most of the BCers I've had the pleasure of getting to know. The label doesn't matter that much, except where it reflects the quality we're looking for.
  22. I get that with cars. But for me bass gear is not "aspirational" other than I'd like it to be great to play and sound great. So my Yammy BB1025 has as much of a place in my herd as my BBNE2, although one cost several times the other; they're both great basses. When it comes to my gear my only real aspiration is to someday play it really well.
