  1. 10 basses? But that's the perfect number! 😁 From another thread, but highly relevant (if I say so myself)... Btw having just got to the magic number of 10 basses, I can formally confirm that it's all in the fingers. Although having a bass to attach to some strings, a cable and some form of amplification does help.
  2. Well that would be entirely consistent with only using 3 bass strings, I guess 😁
  3. Existentialism aside and getting back on topic (haha!) here's the thing - I've been gobsmacked by how much positivity there is around the Sire basses from the BC community on this thread. Kinda feels like the OP is not going to go too far wrong if she decides to go for the V7 she has her eye on, and could well end up with a bass that will serve her well for a long while to come.
  4. Any punk who includes the word 'existentialism' casually in a sentence needs his status examining under the Trades Descriptions Act.
  5. Frank's a real BC gent and that recommendation would certainly sway it for me. It also seems to me that you're keen to explore the tonal options available and something like the Sire is going to be able to go on that journey with you. FWIW, I've been playing bass for a fair few years (although not as many as some of my fellow BC'ers on this thread, Frank included!) but have just bought my first Sire (s P7 5er v2) a few weeks back. It's lovely instrument and holds its own with others in my herd past and present that cost a lot more. I'm really looking forward to gigging it, when such things start happening again!
  6. That's all very well for you to say, you blue-veined custard chucking Member with a zillion gorgeous Spectors and sundry other basses...
  7. Apologies to one and all. I got it wrong. The ideal number of basses is NOT nine as I had droned on about earlier in this thread. After further deep regression analysis (and the recent purchase of "just one more" bass), it's now clear to me where I got my assumptions wrong. The ideal number has nothing to do with not getting into double figures to assist us in shielding our mischief from our better halves, as I had previously incorrectly assumed, but everything to do with the number of fingers on both hands to enable us to properly count them. The ideal number is actually TEN. As you were folks. I will be issuing a press release to this effect shortly.
  8. Blimey Lozz, what's happened to you? Did I just read you recommending a Jazz over a Precision? (Picks himself up off the floor 😁) But for all the reasons you've said, starting out on a Jazz seems to be great advice. There's always the halfway house of a PJ bass of course, where you can maybe get the best of both worlds, particularly if you go for a bass with a relatively slim-line playable neck. For £350 you could get a very nice nearly new Yamaha BB434 or a Sire P7v2. But that would be muddying the waters...although not in a way you would ever likely regret!
  9. Unfortunately Helix doesn't have synth engine under its bonnet (unlike the Mooer GE300 multi-fx) and I didn't find the Dr Tonelab synth patches that good. Old fashioned approach to getting a synth effect = octave + dirt + filter in a chain. Worth trying that as a starting point and having a go at creating a patch (I suspect other folk have maybe already gone down this route and can share). The synth fanboys on this forum tend, from what I've seen, to go for a quality dedicated synth pedal e.g. Panda FI, Source Audio C4 or if you don't want to PC edit then the Boss SY-1
  10. I've come to the conclusion that less can sometimes be more, particularly if it means they're more likely to get used in a band mix!
  11. Fighting talk 😁 You've clearly already been holed up too long, mate.
  12. Lozz playing a 5 string?!! Blimey you'll be getting @bassfan to pick up one of these devil's instruments next! Mind you, you've finally got me round to getting a variation of your beloved Paradriver (only took 3 years to get there) and I've started playing P basses (well PJ to be more accurate); so let's face it - this lockdown madness is getting to us all 😁
  13. I see that you are really slumming it with that down-at-heel collection! 😁
  14. Btw - if you're heading down the Markbass route, recommend checking out the MB AC 121 Lite. One of the very few combos to deliver it's full 500W output through its own single 12" cab without recourse to a second cab. It has extended speaker excursion to handle the lows and on board LPF in the form of its VLE control. Will give you a one stop shop solution with an all-in combo weight of around 36lbs and you can pick one up for £600 for a vgc used one.
  15. Barefaced dubster & gen 3 Supertwin? Time to reinforce the neighbourhood windows 😁 You thought about a pair of BF SCs as a flexible alternative to the Supertwin? 'Cos it seems to me that is exactly what a ST is...two stacked SCs.
  16. "Tube grind & punch" sounds blo*ody marvellous! Isnt that pretty much the holy grail of bass tone? And if your WD-800 is delivering that in spades, then it sounds to me that you've got a bit of a keeper!
  17. It's your blood*y thread, pull yer finger out mate! 🤣
  18. @Deedee a little bird tells me that you recently beat several us to the draw and managed to get your hands on a WD-800. Well, please spill the beans - how are you finding it?!
  19. I'm gonna give @bassfan's new Sad a spin when this lock-down malarky is done and, if it turns out to be nicer than his Status, then... But that one is solo P; I'm a died in the wool PJ man these days (you can blame Yammy for twisting my view of life!).
  20. Nice clip showing off the P7 tone from a TB'er who's recently just got himself one:
  21. Dang now up to 10...that was careless. One of them is going to have be shown the door!
  22. Chap selling his lovely NYC P5 in the FS. Quite eye opening for me what he's willing to consider in trade! It's clearly true that the bass isn't always greener on the other side...
  23. Dammit - was one of the four Fenders! The first one to be precise: Fender CS Pino P bass And a very biased / limited sample of 18, right i.e. no Yammys, Ibbys, Spectors, Warwicks, Sires, Squiers, Laklands etc etc? Least fav was the nasally MM Stingray which came next. And yes I did listen to the rest (twice!) 😁 Yours?
  24. I see that Sad are no longer taking orders for Metros, so a bit tricky to guage prices. Does anyone know what something like that Rome model would have been new? Must admit if the key difference between the Metro and the NYC is just that the latter has a chambered body (anything else significant?) then that's not necessarily a minus in my books, just a difference. I'm guessing the solid body will have slightly greater sustain.
  25. Ah I can see you and me are after the same bass! Dammit, it's now gonna take twice as long 😁
