You do realise you're easily one of the top contributors to this thread already, don't you? Other than tempt us with your gear over the next 12 days are we going to get you to sign up for a period of purdah for the rest of the year or is your bass build going to scupper that? How's that coming along?
-
These look good thanks! I think I'm correct I'll need to get two stacked pots (they're actually £13.90 a piece) plus two pairs of single pots (currently £5.90) a pair = just under £40 in total? Was possibly thinking replacement black, but silver to match the bridge and offset by the dark tort PG could work very well too. Hmmm... decisions, decisions! All I do know is that they won't be pink, like Dave's knobs 😂 I managed to get Andertons to discount their current list price for an Alder P7 5 v2 and gigbag by a little over £40 after a bit of arm twisting, so it's clear that discount is pretty much going to pot then 😁

It's inversely proportional to the brick shi*house build of the bass player 😁

Fuzz pedal with envelope filter - suggestions please

You could well do far worse than the Red Ripper which I can happily vouch for, if that's what you get lumbered with. The Prunes'n'Custard has a devoted following (not had one myself) - supposedly less versatile than the Ripper but nails what it does even better from comments I've heard. @lee650knows his way around this area as well as most methinks. -
Oooh good question about pups. Strings are definitely OK we're all agreed. Cases to protect basses are fine, boards and PSUs to organise and get the most out of your pedals, just dandy. But a decent pup, well that's a BIG part of a bass's sound isn't it? Whereas a set of lightweight replacement tuners are not. So we should probably draw the line with pups. Easy solution, get them ordered before Mar 25th and you're good to go! Totally with you about the portability of single 12" cabs. I'm just about to get my third as it happens, but I still can't bring myself to part with that lightweight bundle of barefaced cheek I bought from you a while back and has done me proud. Do you still want to sign up? It looks like it's could save you well in excess of £1k if it stops you getting an amp and a (Sadowsky!) bass, so we'll worth the £5 if you do slip up!

Luverly! See - emotionally you already have that in your herd. Look forward to hearing how it plays when it finally arrives.
-
You're getting the idea! And £45 should just about cover it 'cos they can't be that great if you keep moving yours on? Or you can pay me in kind with one of your 487 spare amps...

Yeah, this is gear abstinence made easy (other than it will cost you a £fiver when you fail). It's basically an excuse for me to climb back on the wagon, having spectacularly failed, this week. If I don't, I'm going to go the way of et @cetera and end up with a gazillion basses (all likely to be different shades of the same Spector model). But OBVIOUSLY I didn't fail anywhere nearly as spectacularly as @FinnDave whose spectacularly-ness of wagon-falling-off was wondrous to behold and will be sung around camp fires in the vicinity of bouncy castles for eons to come. The fact that you've put the deposit down already on your tasty custom bass is all good. The matter has been fully disclosed to the tax authorities, as far as I'm concerned. Er hmm - @dave_bass5 I think we've found the loop hole for your VT Bass DI itch. Just bung me a £fiver by way of deposit and if I don't sell it to you then we can put towards something more liquid. That seems to have all basses covered. You've been duly added to the wall of shame.

Yes, maybe, but that doesn't change the fact that I'm still overweight 😁 -

In a previous life that was true and happened. These days I'm just overweight... -
Sounds like a plan - and you know where you can get them new for a good price! So it sounds like you're up for joining the 3 nine challenge, I'll add you to the list!
-
Haha - you could always go buy one in the next two weeks. If not, I'm sure we can find a loophole 😉
-
Congrats! Get some pics of your Yammy herd done Mr Bass 5. 9 lbs is a very good weight!

Ah, if we're including guitars on the Muzz ratio, then I'm at an overweight 10.5... -

Ah so you will be up to the magic NINE. You know it makes sense. -
Pleasure. And I think I need to sell one following an inadvertent acquisition this week that somehow happened whilst I wasn't looking (I don't recall alcohol being involved). It would appear there may be a commercial transaction to be done between us to get us both the universal optimum of NINE basses...😁
-
After an in depth review of several variables including cost, storage, not pis*ing off the other half etc and over 500 contributions from fellow BC'ers, it was evident from calibrated regression analysis that the optimum number of basses to maximise bass player utility, bragging rights and general well being is NINE. Anything that anyone else has to say on the subject is balderdash. Fact.

Slapstick more like in my hands I suspect 😁

More evolution than revolution. BF SC --> BB2, bigger low end and f response not topping out at 4kHz, whilst still being very portable. Gonna hopefully be noticeably better for you know what... Yammy BB1025 --> Sire P7 v2 will hopefully deliver something close to that iconic Fender P tone. And, besides, what other bass gives you a variable mid EQ in it's price range? Managed to get Andertons to do me a good deal including the very decent Sire gig bag all in for < £500. Tech 21 VTDI 'cos @dannybuoy & @dave_bass5 have both been raving about it as their fav Tech 21 pedal (together with a zillion TB'ers) , so I thought I should give it a spin, particularly as Hot Rox are selling them new for not much more than a vgc used one.

It's the sort of garment someone with a fancy Audi estate drives when he is looking to pull. Welcome to abstinence made easy!

Not yet arrived yet, but hopefully all en route... In my defence, if such thing exists, it all started when a mint BB2 came up in the FS used a few days back - I've been dithering on and off about getting one for a couple of years...and all three bits of kit together cost less than a visit by Mrs @FinnDave to get her nails done. Just sayin' 😊 In fact, I do believe that Sire has just taken pride of place as the most value for money bass in my herd!
-
And restrung BEAD 'cos that G string is a bit pointless, right? 😁 Tell you what all 3 bits of kit have come about from starting threads on related gear. SUCH a school boy error...
-
I'm sure you can probably guess at least one of them, given you told me to get it a couple of days back on a website across the pond! I'll do a group family photo when all three of them have arrived in a few days.
