  1. When did the 424s come in and the 414s cease production ie what's the minimum age of the 414? I guess if a mint 425 is on these days for £200 to £225, then a 424 would now be £185 to £200; and a mint 414 a little below that. @stewblack, I wouldn't worry overly about paying £30 to £50 more for a bass than current MVs; cos you're pretty much getting free rental out of it for however long you have it and the pleasure / fun it's giving you. Sympathise more with those of us who bought new basses and have seen prices drop by 30%+ on cost!
  2. What I particularly liked about your post was the imagery it brought to mind of fine-tuning a 6 litre muscle car engine for maximum performance!
  3. It was a generic point as to the common prefs for location of said pedals for many folk on BC based on their posts. The key point I was making is given the dual band nature of this mega-Becos it would potentially allow both functions under one bonnet, but it can't be in two places at once: it's not a quantum pedal.
  4. Ok cheers Si. Sounds like it's not going to do any better a job at limiting than the Becos then, and the Becos has much more functionality.
  5. Nope, there's nothing real about me. I'm just a figment of my own imagination. Now where did I put down that stuff that Dave was smokin'...
  6. What have you been smoking at work this morning dear chap? 😂
  7. Cheers gents. @51m0n so would you regard the Keeley Bassist as being a true limiter and not a compressor? PS if a point is worth making, it's probably worth repeating 😁
  8. But more seriously @ped @Dad3353 @wateroftyne @HazBeen @Rich @Kiwi @Silvia Bluejay are all mods (and apologies to the ones I've missed off from the list, but that's plenty to be getting on with I'm sure!) So simply take your pick and send one of them a private message.
  9. What about real women? Are PJ basses beyond the pale? And what if, like me, you don't happen to be pale? 😁
  10. So @FinnDave is fine with his collection of 6 string basses (oh, actually, maybe he's sold them all come to think of it...)?
  11. Does that include pulling a w*ank face and gurning (whatever that might be), perchance? 😁
  12. Classic buckle rash. Andy T will have a better idea on value of these basses, but assuming the wear & tear is purely the cosmetic stuff shown and nothing more serious impacting playability, I'd suggest that was a bargain!
  13. @StickyDBRmf Sounds like a great life to me! You're clearly better at running a restaurant than many - me included: worked with a chef who was a great cook but had no idea how to manage a profit and loss account and wasn't willing to take advice until it was too late. It's an amazing way to burn through a pile of cash! Serious amount of respect to you - not least for knowing what you're passionate about and following your dreams. You're in the top 0.001% for just doing that in my books. Took me until 48 to finally find what I'm passionate about i.e. bass and playing with great bandmates to appreciative audiences. Oh and I'm still waiting for the groupies...
  14. Interesting. I keep getting told by the "usual crowd" that a limiter (a classic example being the Keeley Bassist) is a comp. So please do elaborate!
  15. I read there blurb as only claiming that the D2 is deeper and warmer than other Markbass 12" cabs in their current line up. Given that MB cabs already have a rep for rolling off the high end, this is likely to be very warm indeed!
  16. So I guess an alternative to this mega one-stop-shop pedal would be the Stella on the front end for compression duties and the simpler compact Mini at the back end for limiter duties to protect against e.g. unwanted filter and synth spikes. (I take krispns point about the lack of need for a limiter in a lower vol home environment, but you do obviously then have the desired gig set up covered off also, should you want it). Two pedals = positional flexibility allowing staged compression vs the convenience of everything under one bonnet and with a slightly lower overall price.
  17. I love that! In work I often try to distinguish between being on a production line and being a craftsman. And it's a privelege to find ourselves getting off a production line, where circumstances permit. But I've never really focused on the difference between an artist and a craftsman/person. I guess that much of what we're saying is that we either don't have the talent to be a true artist (= successful / pro originals band), or would much prefer to be good craftsmen than a typically meh artist, which frankly most amateur original bands are! Obviously you've gotta start somewhere with both.
  18. @ern500evo cobgrats on the new head and welcome to the DG M900 & BF rig owners club! Be interesting to hear how your new amp stacks up against the GK MB Fusion and what genre of music you're typically going to be using it for? You got yourself a really good deal on that M900 btw!
  19. You're going to have to post some clips!
  20. @NancyJohnson just wondering - do you only ever eat new dishes at restaurants, or occasionally do you order something you've previously enjoyed a lot? What about when you have mates round, nouveau cuisine each time? But even then are you "covering" someone else's recipes, or creating your own from scratch? How long does a band play its own original material time and again, before it effectively becomes a tribute act to its former creative self? Originality has it's place, of course it does! Otherwise we would all still be listening to Gregorian plain chant. But things don't have to be new to be stuff that we and in the case of music, our audiences, love.
  21. It's great having the possibility of a comp and limiter on the same pedal, I can only think of one other that offers that. The only issue is that many folk typically would have a have a comp at the start of their signal chain and the limiter at the end. (Apologies @krispnthat this comment is not backed-up by anything other than home use, which obviously immediately renders it value-less 😉 )
  22. Yeah, but the pictures are really useful to see how it's been pulled together (well for me anyway!) before downloading, so please don't desist!
  23. Check out the analogue octaver on this amp (24.00 in to our very own Dood's review). It competes with the very best analogue octavers out there in terms of tracking. Very few analogue octavers (which tend to have less latency than their digital counterparts) can manage to track down to an open E without glitching. This can - love it!
  24. Hats off (or on) to this talented Canadian two-piece! Upright bass and drum - not seen too many pull that off before.
