Cheers buddy, and nope you didn't bite anyone's head off. You're far too nice a chap to ever do that. Now as my penance, I'd best go away and RTFM before Xmas... 😊
-
Cheers buddy. I've not come across MarloweDK but I'll definitely put him on the list to follow up!

Maybe a while yet! Just started working through Mark's course on talkingbass; for me, he's one of the best online bass tutors out there. I've only really got one passive bass these days, so yup it's been on a couple of my actives (the Ibby and Spector). Do you use slap much or even a little in your live work, to add a bit of spice?
-
Lol! I'm giving up (you'll be glad to hear). Page 4 of this thread for the Axel stuff. Feel free to update your earlier second post on this thread or not as you choose, if you feel it useful. Appreciate your assistance (and patience!) on getting the tuner sorted on mine Peter.

You really are ranting quite a lot these days! 🤣 I'm just sharing my experience as a user just as @AxelF did earlier in the thread, before he had his head bitten off for having the temerity to share his thoughts. Not everyone has the time or inclination to wade through a 70 page manual! Step back a bit and consider this: if our discussion improves the experience for other users (and avoids Peter having to deal with numpties like me going forward) then that's gotta be a good thing, right?

I think if you just mention it in your OP, you will have fully covered the basses, maybe something along the lines of: "If you do not want to or do not need to back up your old v2 files, then you can simply update your firmware and load the new factory soundset using this handy tool (Google Chrome only). Please be aware that you will need to separately reset the tuner which is covered at pages 13 & 14 of the manual"
-
Fair - but that is not the page that is linked in your OPs and the instructions you advised us to follow? (And no mention of this glitch as something to be aware of in your OPs or in the otherwise very helpfully provided Online v3 Firmware Updater). Online v3 Firmware Updater If you do not want to or do not need to back up your old v2 files, then you can simply update your firmware and load the new factory soundset using this handy tool (Google Chrome only). IMPORTANT: If you don’t already have your v2 programs backed up but want to, then, rather than using the online updater, you must instead update to v3 using these instructions.

A little slap bass digression Been a little while since I've posted on here but, as I'm needing to fill out the sound in one of our bands as we are down one instrumentalist, my B14-X has found it's way onto a small gigging board so I've been messing about with it a little more again recently. Here's a simple slap tone setting - basically a heavy treble boost with a slight mid cut, which I've slotted into the basic "clean" patch. GEQ set as follows: 50Hz, 120Hz, flat 400Hz, 500Hz, 800Hz at minus 5.0 4.5kHz, 10kHz at plus 10.0

Your best (and worst!) bass gear purchases of 2019?

Oooh nice! Be interesting to see whether that displaces your Gibson in your affections before the year is out. (And in your case, whatever follows it in Dec 😁) -
Be interested in why you would need more pedals. Were you simply meaning more footswitches as I thought the available effects on the Stomp and HX FX were the same, but the Stomp just had amp & cab sims on top. If I've got that wrong and the HX FX does have a bunch of additional effects, that would be another good reason to consider the HX.

Finally worked out why you were on stage with that outfit. Fess up: it's got nothing to do with sly mating rituals at all. As for Mr E Straker with his collection of like 70(?) basses, I've just come across this article: Apparently #1 is making statements such as: -

That's lovely (the vintage white fireplace I'm referring to of course but the Ric ain't too shabby either!) Gotta admit Rics are the basses I've never quite summoned the courage to get, although I did REALLY liked one which I tried in a store a couple of years back - seemed to put the competition I tried out that day (mainly Laklands which I know a lot of folk really rate) to shame. Then I thought I was safe 'cos I moved onto 5ers, but they've caught up with me on that score. Just (exorbitant) price and weird diamond shaped pups now stand in my way of a Famous 5 Ricadventure. PS and oh btw if you fancy uploading a clip of that Ric + dUg sound you're loving, I'm sure it won't be the least helpful on the GAS score for any of us. -
Weird thing is that my Tech21 Red Ripper seems to have made a miraculous return to full health. Probably 'cos it shares a human fear of going to the dentist...😁 Been advised by fellow BC'ers that its likely to have been a bit of dust in the works and best thing is to give the circuit a bit of an air clean with some canned air. I'll give that a try if it has a mopey day again.
-
Yup - fair cop on that point. I'll edit my post above accordingly.

You need to bear in mind that some folk don't have time or inclination to wade through 70 pages of manual to spot a glitch! Personally I think something like this should be spelt out on the page dealing with uprating the firmware to 3.00, that would seem the obvious place rather than buried in a footnote on page 14? I certainly wouldn't have spotted this other than the fact that it came up on another unrelated thread. Just one further point for the manual for the next update. On page 13 you are advising to turn the PARAMETER dial to "Note Off Level" to get to "tBS". Fine so far, but we're left hanging there and actually need to move the dial back to "Note On Level" to identify and edit the note frequency. Maybe an obvious thing but if you are "RTFM" then you expect the manual to give you the right order of steps when correcting a glitch. All good though Peter, you've done an amazing job on updating the manual which is a zillion times better than the original. And as with any product updates - just take the feedback that's coming through and include any useful or recurring points in the next update of the manual.
-
Oooh that Octavider+ sounds good, but will likely have a price tag to match!
-
One point that is not immediately obvious, but came up on another thread, is the following which is hidden in page 14 (of 70) of the manual: "If you update your FI's firmware to 3.00 from an older version...then the tune base will not be at 440...You must reset the tune base" (otherwise the tuner is out). No idea why no one thought to make A = 440Hz the automatic reset on updating the firmware, but it is what it is. How to reset things are set out at page 13 of the manual.

Good man Yup that was the red card hint a few posts ago. I guess we could in theory widen this thread to guitars, keyboards, band outfits...band pets...but please let's not (although if @bassfan wants to include his pet, he has a dispensation) 😁 (PS @ezbass @BassAgent - those are some really cool six strings you've got!) -
+ bear in mind postage on top

@ezbass or should that now be ezguitar? Just one thing to say to you: -
Out of interest why doesn't it default to A = 440Hz post v3 upgrade? You'd have thought that would be a pretty obvious thing to do.
-
Aha! That makes sense. Do you have to go online to reset it? I guess we should really be having this discussion on the FI thread... apologies to the OP! Lol, just checked, you're the OP! 😎

Appreciate that this is a bit of thread derail, although it's hopefully in the spirit of what we're sharing, but if any of you also posted on last year's thread, it would be really interesting to hear whether you kept your nominations from 12 month's ago? Given the churn in kit I've had over the past couple of years, I must admit I was really chuffed to read my OP from last year and see that my fav purchase then and the two runners up (all basses) have sailed through 2019 and look set to remain for a while yet. I guess there's hope for me yet Now if I had to decide whether my fav from this year matches my fav from last year, that's gonna be a really tricky one and I'll probably need to "do a @Merton" and sleep on it. Probably for about six months in my case 😁 -
When you're using the tuner, you'll see three dash levels to the side of a particular note: high dash, mid (in tune), and low. I'm referring to the difference in these dashes as a "notch". And when I'm playing a single note (particularly a low B) the level ducks and dives like a pro boxer. Much more stable on my Zoom B1-4. You not getting any of this on yours?
