  1. Not at all!! I'm having a complete "I agree with Mick day today" ๐Ÿ˜€ Surely we and nobody else, other than maybe our other halves, get to choose exactly what we do with our own bass gear? Dunno about you, but I find it incredibly patronising when folk think they have a right to say "you need to be gigging X, Y or Z bits of your kit to get the best out of it", or "it's pointless having that pedal unless it's being used in a band mix." If you or I want to enjoy some or all of our gear in the comfort of our own home, to put to one side for a season while we get on with other bits of gear or none, IMO that's our choice. Other folk can do exactly what they like with the gear they've spent their hard earned cash on, where and when they use it or not at all - that is entirely their prerogative and not something you'll ever find me proroguing.
  2. I agree, I've been looking at PJ F-basses and frankly I'm not finding anything for remotely near the asking price of this bass! ๐Ÿ˜
  3. Sounds good! Look forward to it!
  4. Completely fair Mick - the 414 / 424 pups are indeed hot, something that many folk really like but it's not going to be for everyone. I always thought of Spectors' EMGs as having a reputation for meaty / punchy / kick-you-down pups. How would you compare the ones you've played to the Yammy?
  5. Cheers - that very much stacks up with the general sentiment about the Sad from the rest of this thread i.e. that it works well in the mix and perhaps 'better' than when played solo at home. I haven't quite worked out from the earlier comments whether that means it 'sits well' in the mix like P basses or 'cuts through' the mix due to mid punch or some lush mixture of the two!
  6. Fair! My Ibby SR regularly gets commented on for its looks, although I guess I've grown used to its appearance and am therefore always a little surprised that it seems to be head-turningly cute as far as other musicians and audience members are concerned! A bit like Dave, I rarely get comments about bass tone or the sound per se on any of my basses, because in my case it's just part of the mixed 'band sound'. Although I get regular positive feedback about the bass playing and the band, which is, of course, really nice to get. What is it specifically folk are commenting on about your Sad and are the comments from other musos or 'general' audience members?
  7. Same with my Yammy BB You've got a fair point though Dave... which is that it's surely about the player and much less the gear. I suspect Chris could make most basses sound really good.
  8. A few changes on and off my board, since my last post on here a couple of months back. Final piece of the jigsaw, the Boss SY-1 arrived earlier today and is sitting snugly in it's place, giving my board a smug 'finished' feel to it (famous last words!) The SY-1 tracks like a deer hunter. I'm venison-ly happy ๐Ÿ˜Š For any of you interested in the signal chain, it's as follows: BASS โ€˜Cleanโ€™ input Smoothhound (wireless) Thumpinator (hpf) Becos Stella (comp) Boss SY1 (synth) Early mid-board: drive / fuzz Grizzly Bass (analogue) SA Aftershock (digital) Mastotron (gated fuzz) Red Ripper (ungated fuzz) Late mid-board: filters SA Manta (digital) 3Leaf GR2 (analogue) End board: modulation / delay Digitech Mosaic (octave up) HX Stomp (multifx +DI +headphone amp) AMP Total power draw, excluding the Stomp which has it's own PSU, is 1.3A and all powered by a MXR IsoBrick under the board.

Playing catch up with Woody, but mine's also now arrived and is sitting snugly on my pedal-board, which is kinda feeling finally there or thereabouts - famous last words I know! Initial impressions of SY-1 are very positive - can't believe how well this thing tracks! And just like the three Ibby SRs I now have in my herd, this particular pedal is a result of another Woody thread. ZERO complaints from me, though, about any of that!
  10. If you want one in black, there's this one for a similar price from eBay. It's slightly more compact, but consequently potentially more prone to being kicked over than Dave's! Add another ยฃ5 for a TRS cable, in my case.
  11. Finding this cable a bit noisy in my signal chain. They're about ยฃ11 new, so seems a shame to chuck it away - one of you guys with cable making kits may be able to put to good use for parts. Drop me a line if you want it and I'l pop it in the post to you. Cheers AK

Thanks and welcome back to BC! I must admit I've struggled to get any decent synth sims from the Stomp, which is part of the reason for me getting the Boss SY-1; the other part is I'm hoping that the Boss interface with easy to tweak knobs will make it really easy to use. @Quatschmacher is a great guy to pick brains on if you're also thinking about a C4 or FI; he's got both and knows a LOT about synths!
  13. Haha, yup sadly the 'correct' answer is not one that I can lay claim to. 3 would be nearer the mark. About to be 4 when I get a duo strap to handle the spectre of a slightly heavier bass...And only ever one at a time. Be interested to come back to this thread in 12 months time and see if the position has changed!
  14. The 'correct' answer is obviously... 9 ๐Ÿ˜€
  15. Apology accepted (although I strictly have 10, so dunno why I've jumped on the nine bandwagon?! ๐Ÿ˜‚). Actually you're technically 'nearly nine'. That works. And dave is actually even more nearly nine (especially after Christmas!) From the nine brigade...

Apologies Woody - and agreed. I'll make this my last response to Cuzzie and hope he takes the hint! I too am really interested in the SY-1! @Cuzzie - I've asked (on multiple occasions) on public fora and via PM that you don't comment on my posts because you invariably troll. For example, would you consider this to be yet another snarky comment, or something helpful? There are a zillion other folk's posts to comment on. Too much to ask?

Trouble with some idiots is that you can repeatedly ask them in public forum and by pm not to comment on any of your posts because they are such irritating trolls. You can block them (which I've done) but somehow they simply don't get the message. Harry, I'm at a bit of a loss. This particular individual is pretty much the sole reason I can find spending time on BC unpleasant. Suggestions welcome!
  18. Agreed. @51m0n has been the wisest head on the topic of compression I've come across on BC. Fact that he recommended the Becos Stella as a superb compression learning tool was a big factor in my jumping at the first chance one of these came up used in the FS. As and when I get round (in my own good time!) to using anything more than my B14-X for live use, the Becos will certainly get an outing with Simon's skepticism-searing settings.

Cool! What you don't need a PhD in computer editing to go from unboxing to using live?! It tracks down to a low B without a glitch?! Just on that latter point alone, if I may quote you: OMFG !!! ๐Ÿ‘

Ah enjoy Some learned and insightful comments from @51m0n on the subject, together with typical d*ick-head comments from the usual suspects, which I do my best to ignore! ๐Ÿ˜

I didn't know that was a question? If you head over to the Compiq thread you'll find it's not been a secret, and where I'm getting severely lectured on how compressor pedals only really have any value in a band mix... 'Fraid it's taken the place of Keeley in my affection just as the SY-1 is about to similarly take the place of my FI (although there is a bit of sweepstake being organised by one of the C4 owners on just how long the SY-1 is going to survive on the Krow board - I've bet him it'll last longer than the C4 will on his ๐Ÿ˜‚) Fortunately your board currently seems to be a place of kind refuge for several of my Brexited pedals...
  22. You're catching on pretty quickly matey! Gold star (and six basses) for you Now if you were to get another SIX basses ... what would they be? Nope it means you have nine and a spare Shuker. Like I have nine and a Stagg EUB.
  23. Just bought Colin's Red Ripper pedal. Very smooth transaction and everything as described and a pleasure to deal with. Very happy to recommend Colin to my fellow BC'ers.
