  1. Apologies - but I really don't understand that comment! Why would a bass be crap 'in the bedroom' and only come into its own when playing with a band? Surely a decent bass should be capable of sounding good in both situations? The only way to make sense of that is if it was (overly) mids-heavy and I struggle to believe that would be the case with something that has the reputation for quality that a Sadowsky does?
  2. Tbf I certainly didn't 'hate' the Delanos. It was more a case of finding them increasingly 'meh' as I experienced the punch and growl of other pups. When you've forked out a good chunk north of £1k on a bass, the last thing you want to be feeling about any bass is that it is 'meh'... Yup, you've hit the nail on the head at my angst at having to replace pups on an already expensive bass. But time for me to stop being a stuck record... What genre of music are you mainly playing your Schecter for and how long have you had it? Back on topic. Seamless 😁
  3. Yes that is correct in terms of the 'Plan B' solution. Fortunately it turns out that there is a PA on site for the BoxPark gig tonight (The Organiser seems to be anything but organised 😁), so we don't need to try out the 'reverse FRFR' Plan B solution. Rehearsal room that we regularly use is likely to be too small to give us any real sense of how it will add to the sound, as the kick drum is already loud in a confined space. But we could certainly give it a go at a pub gig where folk are a bit more relaxed about sound perfection than at a function or wedding. I am chuffed, though, that we have potentially found a 'hack' which lets us use existing gear for additional low end punch, without needing to fork out on additional gear.
  4. Another great experience of service from Chris for me: I bought a used SH receiver / transmitter from a fellow BC'er a little while back as a back up unit and, having quickly checked it worked when I bought it, it had since been sitting in my drawer as the 'spare'. Decided very recently to set up on my home pedal board but when I A/B'd with my existing SH unit I found it to be significantly noisier. Got in touch with Chris - really responsive and helpful. He subsequently took in the unit, diagnosed the issue and fixed it (and wouldn't have charged me a penny for P&P and his time and materials if I had not pressed him and even then was ridiculously modest with his repair pricing). Cheers Chris!
  5. There's been a full and frank discussion on Berg pups on this thread (and very likely to be a bit a sidetrack on our Schecter fanboy thread, which I know I'm as guilty as the next BCer of doing(!) ). If I was buying another Berg, pups would be top of my list to get right: the 'standard' Delano pups were my only disappointment with an otherwise lovely TM4.
  6. Spoke to the sound engineer at a gig we were playing at last night (different venue to the Wembley Box Park gig I mentioned in the OP), and who did a really good job. Bass related: we needed him to cut down the amount of stage monitoring, particularly in terms of reducing the amount we were hearing everyone else through our own monitors - definitely much better hearing just the bass through my bass monitor which was Bill's point above. He also agreed not to set the HPF off too high (he went for 70 Hz cut off). Excellent sound system and a couple of FOH subs. End result: a meaty low end of both kick drum and bass. It's a central London venue which I travel light to on the underground, so just bass and a few bits and bobs; no amp and cab (or pedals other than tuner); I simply DI straight into the house PA. Any tonal variation is just from rolling the treble off. All worked a treat and really good response / feedback from the audience. Anyway that's kinda all by the by - simply mention because sub woofers were in play and also because I ran the Plan B option mentioned above, and sound engineer thought it should work just fine / couldn't see any issues with mixing a mic'd kick drum and my bass --> bass amp --> two x 12" bass cabs. FRFR in reverse.
  7. @DanTM Cuzzie knows a thing or two about both Bergs and pups. Worth checking out his suggestion - may well give your Berg a whole new lease of life. They are very well made basses.
  8. Lovely bass! In what way are you finding that the Schecter is nailing it and the Berg isn't? Which model Berg and what make pups?
  9. Ah yes, fair enough, I forgot you don't have the option to cut your bass EQ on your passive BB 1025X, in the way that active basses would easily allow, to trim the bass going into the drive section. FWIW for the sake of balance I find the B3K can work fine as a full on dirt with my BB 1025 PJ - I appreciate you and I differ on that one. But I find it too toppy / fizzy when used full on with J basses and for which the fulsome bottom ended Grizzly Bass pedal comes into its own. Another matter you and I differ on!
  10. Comfort, portability, clean amps. I guess I personify what rock n roll has become and why it's destined to become extinct. Hell's bells beckon.
  11. Or you could just cut your bass EQ if you want less bass? I find that full-on DG dirt drains low end and can leave your tone sounding insipid (dare I say metal) if you're not careful, particularly with J basses. So either clean blend or bass boost is very welcome to preserve the bottom end.
  12. 2) What's the basis of saying that BF are exaggerating? 4) Agreed - I was getting confused with the BF SM which is the compact BF with the higher HF freq response 5) I also believe the earth to be round and not flat. But hey maybe that's just me and TJ? 😁 I do fully agree with your subsequent post that if you were putting two cabs together then similar speaker sizes / power ratings and makes, seem to provide the safest option. Have a good hols!
  13. But the gaps in your posts take up an inordinate amount of space on our screens! 😁 I'm guessing that makes sense when using your newly acquired red and gold MB finery. But I presume absolutely no need with your DG M900 where you have this in the amp already?
  14. Entirely appropriate garment wear then! Anyway connecting your jumper to the thread: fortunately I already have plenty of EQ options on bass, HX Stomp and amp so there is no chance in Hell's bells that I will ever be forking out £300 to £400 on any of the DG overpriced ultra pedals. Seamless 😁
  15. While gigging in the summer heat and when not actually playing rock?! (Pls remind me what genre you play through your BF one10s?) In which case Osiris has a point...
  16. Haha! Me and other DG amp owners don't always gig in daft jumpers. IIRC Osiris you did try the DG M900 for like 23 mins in a store, so didn't really put it through its paces? Clean channel really is very good: I've come to appreciate that when 'clean' means 'clean' I can hear what my bass sounds like underneath. The power on tap is immense - you're never going to lack for headroom. Wiser folk have been rabbiting on forever about how a touch of 'always on' dirt adds to the sound - I'm finally (18 months in) starting to appreciate what they have been getting at. With the B3K at 2/10 and P or PJ pups it adds a bit of compressed harmonic complexity (with built in hpf) to the bass tone which just lets the bass cut through a bit more in a band mix. I guess I've gone from skeptic about this amp to concluding that it's actually a very very good piece of kit.
  17. We heard back from the organiser a short while back (they seem pretty disorganised). Turns out (after all that!) that there is a half decent PA on site but we still need to: "You bring your own back-line and instruments, mics, monitors, mixer, stands and plug into the house PA. & your lights, please." There was an understandable 'FFS!' from the drummer when we got the follow up message, not least as he had started making enquiries about hiring kit! On the plus side, I quite like the Plan B option - effectively using a second bass cab as a sub woofer. FRFR in reverse
  18. Can't argue with that! Have to admit if I was looking to pair my BF SC with another cab it would likely be either another BF SC or the BF SM which chris_b is finding works really well as a pairing.
  19. +1 ^^ So I took the HB 35 along and got our guitarist to put it through his paces at rehearsal tonight (50s / 60s set). Sounded a darn sight better than when I'm playing it - haha! His view was that a Gibson 335 would certainly be a bit better but not likely to be 5 or 6 times better and that the quality of Gibs has been very variable over the past decade. He also thinks the pups on the new ES 235 look really good.
  20. I'm going to put the counter, if I may, which is: 1) you have a 12" and 10" cab moving air, not one 12". 2) the one 10 can handle up to 500W clean. Add a matching 500W through the SC (assuming they are both 8 ohm iirc) and you have 1000W power handling capacity. 3) Most amps max out at below that and who dials up their amps to 10/10 anyway? Most likely you're going to be putting nearer 200W to 250W (max) through each and still being very loud. 4) You also have the higher frequency range of the one 10 on tap. 5) If TJ is actually using this in practice, seems to me that's a vote of confidence of actual experience over theoretical objections?
  21. Why so good sir? Surely just be a case of having one of them a little further back on stage behind me (doubling up as a stage bass monitor) so I can hear myself? I'll be tightly locked into the kick drum for once...😂
  22. And a tasty little Vox amp to boot!
  23. Agreed for the sub woofer route. Plan B with bass & kick drum mixed into bass amp and two decent, pretty transparent, 112s should however provide a full frequency spectrum up to 4 kHz in the case of the BF SC and right up the freq scale in the case of the Fearless 112 with its 5" mid speaker and 1" tweeter. Two separated bass speakers should provide pretty decent dispersion too. Any reason this Plan B shouldn't work? If this second option does work then the we've got a ready made solution we can roll at any time for no additional cost, which would be great.
  24. I've mostly grown out of burst, but that black burst ES 235 is particularly lovely! IMO, YMMV...
