Delighted to restart Steve's (aka @mangotango) feedback thread; his last one having got lost in the mists of Site upgrade... Sold Steve a Squier Bass VI. He popped over to collect in person in timely fashion and we had a very enjoyable hour chatting music and bass (what else ?!) Due to his pointing out to me how good Spector Legend Custom basses are and that they are loaded with a 3 band EQ I've got a worrying premonition that my sale to Steve won't necessary result in a thinning of the herd! Super easy transaction and I'd be very happy to deal with Steve again and, being local, hopefully we we will keep in touch! Hope you enjoy the bass - and I look forward to hearing any inspired original creativity that follows!

Please please don't do this, Paul, as it will cause a disruption in the space-time continuum in the Eastern Home Counties. And I don't live too far from there.

The nicest BB 1100S I've seen 'in the flesh' is @bassfan's. Absolute stunner! I'm kinda glad that the early BBs are only 4 strings as that one, in particular, would have had me lusting! Am I correct in thinking that the first 5 string BB was the BB 5000 / A? Or are there also 5 string versions of the BB 2000 and 3000 series?

A pair of Yamaha BB 1100s fretted and fretless both on at £250 starting prices: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Yamaha-BB-1100-S-Bass-Guitar-1980/223618965836?hash=item3410baa14c:g:zOUAAOSwKe1dTujY

Can't work out whether that's closer to Robbie (Forbidden Planet) or Wall-E? 😀

I checked out the Digitech Dirty Robot today. Had a similar reaction to @Jonathan Beepreviously had to it, which is broadly that it's a bit meh as a synth albeit, IMO, a very elegantly crafted piece of kit. Found there was a little volume drop-off in filter mode which was more pronounced than in 'synth' mode (and where I found there was very little vol drop off). Filter was not too bad, but not in the same league as the SA Manta - and given I have a Manta I can't really justify holding on to the Dirty Robot.

Cheers, and I'm taking your advice about getting it into 'broken in' BB 2025 shape: it's currently my #1 goto gigging bass
-
So something like this, right? Well as you've got my old 425 it would make sense for me make this one available to you also... Just kidding btw! No current plans to move my BB 1025 on
-
Yup indeed - all used or end of line! Apart from the Fearless F112, which sneaks into the frame. That was purely 'cos I wanted a particular finish / grille on that cab (and it obviously also avoided the need for me to "chisel the various solidified secretions of the previous owner off before feeling comfortable" 😁 ) What's the make / model of your bass?
-
Might just be a £50 bass which I assume is used rather than new - and a testimony to your negotiation skills(!), but it has a much liked reverse PJ config, which is a rarity on my fav brand of PJs (only seem to be available on the 4 string 'MA' Yammy BBs) although obviously a more standard feature on the (not £50!) Bergs.

@Horizontalste just wondering whether you followed up on this earlier bit of banter and if you had any joy in negotiating the price down? If so, I could be tempted to follow in your footsteps (and get my stock of BBs back up to a full Trav 😂)
-
Great that you're loving your (my former!) 425. They are remarkably good basses for the money! What is about getting a 425 that makes folk want to jump straight to the top end of the Yammy range?! @dave_bass5 bought another 425 off me (yes, ok, I seem to be turning into a used 425 salesman 😁) and got himself a P34 before I could say "TI Flats"! But I'm not sure I see the jump from 425 straight to a BB2025 as being an 'obvious' one. Certainly not something I personally would rush into doing, because I suspect you could get to 95% of the 'sound' of a 2025 with a BB1025 for 40% of the cost; they are identical in terms of pups, woods, EQ and construction. The 'additional' that a 2025 brings to the party is (i) being MIJ and (ii) it has had two specialist sonic treatments. Some may think that warrants charging 3 times the price, but I'm not in that camp and I've certainly been very happy indeed with my 1025. The modern day take on the 2025, with lighter tuners, is the P35 and as that is a in-production model you could give one a spin and see what you think. The P35 is given one of the two sonic treatments that the 2025 had, but has an updated set of pups and VVT controls rather than selector switch. It's pretty close in sound to the 1025, but not identical and my guess is that the 1025 is going to be the closest tonally and in feel to the 2025.

If you were looking for an entree to Rush, then I guess Spirit of Radio would be as good a starting point as any? But is that cheating? 😊
-
Haha. And some of us still play live music in bands with real instruments too and not a laptop in sight! 😂
-
Nice 425 - glad to see it's still going strong!

When the GAS runs out the van comes off the road.

Ok cheers John, might be worth my getting in touch with them for a steer on this.

That's fine if these basses were readily in stock. But seems to me you can only get one of these Jackson signatures if you specifically order one. Which I would be happy to do if I had rough idea of weight. Chicken and egg eh? We all appreciate that there will be some variation but it would be good to have a ball park idea to save wasting everyone's time. Complete aside: there's a lovely bubinga Warwick fretless in the FS but sadly it weighs as much as a neutron star...
-
...just asked the Fender sales rep who fobbed me off on the weight, to put just one of these basses (5ers) on the scale on the understanding that YMMV etc! If the weight of a bass is something we all feel entirely reasonable to ask each other when buying used basses, surely it's even more reasonable when we're paying a new bass 'premium' on top? Not sure why manufacturers can't understand that?

@jrixn1 - that's a good Q from Pete, likely to be of wider interest. If you fancy also posting your suggestion on here, that would be ace!
