Two excellent YT demonstrations of the pedal. Tim Starace - demonstrating how the Geddy pedal can do 'Geddy' flawlessly. Been up on YouTube a while so you may have seen this one already, but he's a really impressive bassist! Excellent (recent) explanation by DistortedBass (a TB'er) of how the pedal does everything else besides Geddy.

Is the one on BCcab 112 by any chance the same one as on the Fearless F112?

Their CN212 is an amazingly good cab, I agree! Swept me off my feet and caused me to trade in my VK 210 LNT which I'd been (and remain) a very big fan of. But I don't think the Berg 112s have the same power handling / output as the BF BB2 or Fearless 112 (or even my BF SC)? So I would find them harder to use as a one cab solution than the other three.

Believe me I, and I hope all of us, would be equally up in arms if Alan Cringean's or Jon Shuker's designs were 'taken' by Fender or Gibson without their consent and no compensation / royalty payments provided to these two wonderful gents for their designs. But it has to be a two-way street.

Definitely a lot less clear cut than stealing some else's designs! For some reason the law gives one greater protection than the other, but they both represent creativity in my books. In the case of that particular song, it's about the bass hook, apparently...our bass lines are more important than our band mates sometimes give us credit for!

Be also interested to see what @dave_bass5 makes of it when he's had it for a couple of weeks as he and I both have Yammy Pro basses - in particular whether it's significantly better than Mojomojo. I had the MM a couple of years back and it's definitely great value, but probably a "7/10" pedal over all - perhaps a touch too muddy / dark for my liking. The Spark seems, from comments, so far to address both of those? Given the recent half a dozen purchases of the Spark over the past week or so, there may even be a couple coming up used

Fair. In which case if Dingwall with the D bird don't feel they have done anything wrong and have been playing by the book why bother changing? Maybe this is not a Gibson rip off issue after all?

If you're simply taking someone else's design you should at the very least pay them a royalty for doing so. Intellectual Property, which includes design, theft is well, er...theft isn't it? How would any of us feel if we'd written a song and someone else stole it? Dingwall clearly know that they are bang to rights here and have been 'getting away with it' for too long, otherwise they wouldn't have made the above changes sharpish would they? Aria, Yamaha etc have all come up with their own designs and made a great success of the their bass ranges over many decades without simply plagiarising Fender's designs. But as Chris rightly says, unless Gibson get their act together just pursuing copycats alone isn't going to save their brand.

Thanks mcnach. I'm actually a little relieved to be hearing that the Spark isn't necessarily the promised land - given ALL the positive press its been getting recently! After your first post on it above I was about to hit the order button, but fortunately I saw your other posts too I completely agree that there is a broader point to be aware of about basses, pups and their interaction with drive. Using my Yammy BB P/J set up to illustrate: I'm finding that the thump / thud of the P pups actually works well with DG type pedals (e.g. VMT , B3K) where the top end fizziness of the drive is tamed by the P pup and the flip side is good sustain and bite, whereas with J pups the DG VMT and B3K, are just too toppy (for me anyway!) With more 'meaty-growl' pedals (e.g. Grizzly Bass) the opposite is true: the drive sputters pretty quickly with P pups like a dying battery, whereas with J pups it sounds great - again with good sustain and bite.

Great post, thanks Jim! I'm glad you're still a big fan of the Fearless cabs - it's good to know that my ears are not deceiving me just to make me feel better for having recently forked out for one! Is there a pic of the BC cab lurking around somewhere that you or @stevie could post for us on this thread? And is there a spec sheet for it (the usual: ohms, power handling, output, frequency response, weight etc)? What more could we want? Well for those of us who are still struggling to differentiate our Stomp from our Aftershock and lack the confidence to put something like a cab together without the tolex fraying or melting, maybe getting you or Stevie to provide a finished product?! 😁 How much does the kit form cost and what would be a cost for the finished product? (You may want to consult with Stevie on the latter if this is not something that you are already providing to BC Land!)

@mcnach you also mentioned elsewhere that the Spark Boost sounded better with some basses than others. Which basses does it work well with and which not? I've found that the J bridge pup on my Yammys produces a fair bit more sustain and bite with some of my drives than the P pup.

Yammy store in London seems to be having a bit of a sale on, although the prices of basses not in the sale seem to have gone up and some of them eye wateringly so!

Just connecting a couple of dots... Any cab that delivers a meaty low end is going to be putting out more in the low frequency range, and those low-f waves are also the higher energy ones. So I guess it's not surprising that the F112 can soak up the watts and needs to be partnered with a decent powered amp to get the most out of it. @xgsjx gave the relationship of RMS power at 4 ohms => 2/3 RMS power at 8 ohms earlier in this thread. That would broadly tie in with Marcus Limited 800 amp, we've just been discussing on another thread, delivering 800W at 4ohm = 500W at 8ohm (per its spec sheet), and my DG M900 delivering 900+ W at 4ohms = circa 600W at 8ohms (although the manual states 500W at 8ohms which is a little confusing). Should do the trick
