  1. Gillespie is wrong when he says rock is dead and clearly he's looking to push his recently released album (which probably has nothing new to say!) by spouting such a provocative statement. You only have to look at sold out stadiums to know that rock in all its forms is very much alive. But doesn't he have a point when he says it's not really saying anything new, interesting or challenging anymore? Who is today's Bob Dylan, Leonard Cohen or Jimmy Hendrix? I play in three covers bands and it's much much easier to get paid bookings than for a lot of up and coming original bands here in London who can often play to empty venues for little or no money. I love the music we're playing as, it would seem, so do our audiences. But we're clearly not saying anything new whatsoever! Right...back to what I spend far too much time doing and that is GAS'ing over gear I don't need! Heading over to A/B a used Berg CN212 against my Vanderkley 210 LNT, that's come up for sale not far from me!
  2. As Stewblack rightly said: ...speaking of bites and bits I've just (belatedly) spotted this has a bit crusher sim that the current software version of my Zoom B1X-4 doesn't => I've found my "one effect" that makes it worth keeping for So I'm going to hold on to this one for a little while longer (there are still two in the FS if anyone is looking out for one...).
  3. My two dedicated drive pedals have won a reprieve also! I'm pretty pleased with the drive patches I've made, but playing through headphones last night there was no question that B1X-4 effects sims were not retaining a fulsome low end in the way that my digital SA Aftershock drive multifx (with its clean blend) or my analogue Creation Grizzly bass (without separate clean blend) both manage to do. And that was even after having boosted the bass EQ settings on all my B1X-4 drive patches.
  4. Just noted that the MS-60B has a bitcrusher sim whereas I don't think the B1X-4 / B3n have one? I wonder if it's as good as an entry level bitcrusher like the Mooer Lo-fi? Bitcrush + OC2 (on my Valeton OC-10) could be quite a neat combination. I've heard @dodge_bass sounding pretty cool with that combination of sounds. Looks like I might need to hold on to my MS-60B for a little while longer...
  5. Haha - you and me both mate! (Not helped by a few of these appearing in the FS over the past couple of months) Even went as far as to check out the Ken Smith gear porn thread Right, I'd best get back to my Japanese basses, quick...besides I'm sure I will sound the same whatever bass I'll play ๐Ÿ˜
  6. Face it, what is a para-driver if it's not a drill?
  7. Sadly the G70 wasn't getting much of a write up earlier in this thread from previous owners' experience, although that might have been just bad luck. And believe me I'm not a Line 6 'hater' - far from it!! Their Stomp is a fantastic, class leading piece of kit and their parent company makes my favourite brand of basses (the one in the pic in fact!) It's just that on this occasion SH have provided me (and a lot of other BCers) with a really good product which hits the spot and they combine it with fantastic customer service.
  8. Lol! For home twiddling and PC patch editing it actually means less bending down and me more easily able to see what I'm doing!
  9. @stewblack here you go - what it looks like on my home board set up. The Smoothhound is on bottom right of the board. Also illustrates why I'm such a fan of compact - definitely no space for anything G75 sized to fit comfortably! And no guitar leads whatsoever(!!) which I'll have to admit kinda feels incredibly decadent for home use, but definitely better than sitting in a drawer as a back up for my gigging SH
  10. Actually no schadenfreude on my part, matey - I'm very sorry to hear it didn't work out. But I think I'm due to get bought a couple of pints from you by default though, right? Whilst you're at BD please let us have your thoughts on the Mesa WD-800 - a number of us are really interested to hear whether this is living up to the hype and feature set.
  11. Yamahas are the biz. They Stomp on a lot of other gear IMHO. And great for rock (just to get this thread vaguely back on track) ๐Ÿ˜„
  12. Yes right answer, but to the wrong question. I'm sure you can work out quite easily what the correct question to that answer was? ๐Ÿ˜‚
  13. Yeah, I don't see anyone disagreeing! So come on then, what's the answer? ๐Ÿ˜ I hate to say this, but we need someone to really drill down into this and get us out of a hole. Ok at this point, I'd best Geddy up on my Hi-Q horse and...
  14. Haha - it's not easy, I totally agree. How about: "Music inspired by the creation of the electric bass that still manages to sell out tiny venues all the way to football stadiums". I give away no clue as to what my favourite instrument is from that, do I? ๐Ÿ˜‚
  15. Go on then - I'm sure your definition is going to be as good as anyone's!
  16. ๐Ÿ‘ Yup - if it's working for you and you're loving it, what's not to like?
  17. Happy to go with 10ms if that's the better number. But it's not a choice of deliberately adding latency for the sake of it. It's about what your live sound & performance priorities are. Compact and ease of use are right up there for me e.g. taking up minimal pedal board space is a big plus factor which more than offsets any latency concerns for me (I don't have any latency concerns with the SH btw). It's a bit like saying why would anyone choose a D class over a full blooded valve amp or AB class amp when the latter sound better? Well actually the answer is the same, compact (lightweight) and ease of use...
  18. My pics now uploaded for comparison immediately below yours. Can't fault your choice of amp, though...๐Ÿ˜‚
  19. I have no idea what that is either! But, then, I'm on the wrong side of 50... ๐Ÿ˜
  20. Funnily enough Gillespie having just called Madonna a prostitute ("no offence to prostitutes" he went on to say on the tv interview - lol!), he clearly does have a fair bit still to say himself ๐Ÿ˜‚
  21. โ€œRock is like Latin, itโ€™s a dying language, it's old, itโ€™s finished, and it really has nothing more to say. The spirit of rock is passing to rap, grime and drill music..." Bobby Gillespie, Primal Scream The guy has a point, right?
  22. Wireless receiver at start of pedal board (takes the place of the lead from the bass). Lead from final pedal in the chain --> amp in the normal way.
  23. @hiram.k.hackenbacker - love it! Responding in kind shortly...
