  1. On a more serious note: being able to tweak EQ knobs beats presets on a Stomp, every time, when you have several gigging basses plus a couple of different cabs and here's the killer point: different venues and three different band line ups. Try programming that on a Stomp!
  2. Haha! (Except I've avoided horses as well. Apparently 4 times deadlier than motorbikes in terms of serious injuries). When you play more than one gig a year, get back to me on that.
  3. Yeah know what you mean about lusting after a John East Pre. Seems that the Ibby 1206 isn't the only bass that's defeated ol' John boy from installing his preamps from my recent discourse on the Yammy thread!
  4. Yup - getting a programmable pre-amp with a setting for each bass I'm using does sound like a good way forward, although less tweakable on the fly, as the Cuzz entirely correctly notes. Helix Stomp, for sure. Fortunately my post Stone Age (and also post Stone Roses) active basses all have 3 band EQ and they do work well for me. I appreciate some may question my lack of a decent Attitude here.
  5. Haha - love it! Going on my epitaph together with 'generally apathetic'.
  6. Tbf that's not such a hardship (speaking as a fellow Ibby lover) and a lot less painful, particularly as you'll only be able to use a 'local' if you're doing the surgery DIY. Kidney + Ibanez 1206 = Alembic : I think most audiences may not appreciate the price you would be paying for your art. It's just the way of the world in this modern shallow era... Should be able to get minimum wage for paper rounds, these days, or does that still not apply?
  7. I generally wouldn't recommend getting rid of any of the others. Have you considered doing a paper round instead?
  8. Excellent, that's what I was hoping to hear, thanks!
  9. So your Appendix then? 😂
  10. I've just amended the earlier post, as it was clearly causing a bit of confusion - a BB 5000A is not yet in the Krow household and if the answer is 'no' in terms of being able to swap in something like the John East pre, may never be.
  11. I would have bought mine back, but it wasn't for sale (for good reason, it's a LOT of bass for not a great deal of money, and the guy I traded it with had the biggest grin on his face when he first tried it out in the PMT Store where we met to do the deal). I got another of the same model instead... ...which I'm looking forward to getting my hands back on soon But it has directly resulted in the another, albeit 4 string version of the bass, being bought by the guy it's on loan to he's been so impressed! So I guess my original sale has resulted in two direct and indirect replacements?!
  12. +1^^ Mine are on my Ibby 1206 and 1825. Just great! Now here's my Q: I'm looking for some quality hum cancelling P/Js and I came across these Nords, which seem to hit the mark in terms of a punchy P and that Nord growl in the bridge J https://nordstrandaudio.com/collections/5-string-pj-bass-pickups/products/npj5s-hum-cancelling-set Be interested if folk have any views on these? @Marcoelwray - appreciate that you're not a fan of P pups and prefer passive, BUT if you could potentially 'hold your nose' and get hold of these, what price could you get them for?
  13. @blisters on my fingers Thanks - neighbours are fine, I'm lucky to have a 'bass-ment' for making noise and my desktop computer (upstairs) is accompanied by a decent set of headphones! Glad I'm not going entirely mad today! Seems my 'glitches' and queries are fairly standard ones - and my stuttering start above may hopefully prove useful to others thinking of downloading EZ2, who haven't yet done so.
  14. Ah so I found a typo but just in the wrong place 😁 Have a word with @krispn - he knows a thing or two about Dingwalls. Sounds like you and I have a plan then which is to get a decent used SRMS805, install some Nords and save ourselves £2k on getting a Jap / US only Prestige. IMO the SRMS805 actually looks a LOT less dull than that Prestige anyway!
  15. To the great and good on this thread: could a Yammy BB 5000A be realtively easily modded to take a John East Uni-Pre 4? The John East has 3 band EQ, sweepable mids and active / passive modes. If so, I think I may just have landed on the idea for something that may be close to an ideal P/J bass for me! Just to be clear the BB 5000A below is not in my possession (it's just for illustration). I'll be looking to get one if the answer to the modding question is in the affirmative, as it will give me a fall back if I find I'm missing the flexibility of a mid boost and the ability to switch between active and passive.
  16. Aha indeed - what comes of trying to read 'the small print' quickly eh?! That's not a good story at all! I presume the higher end Dingwalls have better pups? Nor me. Doesn't seem to be any mention of these on their website either, so I guess it's a discontinued product?
  17. Any ideas on how good the DSP is as compared to the Helix?
  18. @Woodinblack Cheers Woody - was that a typo in your first sentence? "My nord is quite approachable..."? I'm slightly bemused that you rate the Nords so much more highly than the Dingwall pups as well!
  19. Wow - I can't believe the customer service of these guys, responding to emails so quickly! Anyway they've got me sorted by going back to my screen display basics and I've got something much more useful, although I'll need to manually adjust screen display each time I come in and out of EZ 2, but that's fine. Ok now for my next trick, getting to grips with this over the next 10 days!
  20. Pulling the chat onto the Ibby SR thread... Woody - must admit I didn't know that we had the option of getting a custom order Nord pups instead of the Barts on this? Ok it's £900 in standard form, and the Nords would take it to £1,200 - or maybe not that much extra if they were custom fitting ab initio?! But as an intro to fan frets and having a 35.5" scale on the B string (whilst keeping 34" on the G) this would still be significantly less than the price of a Dingwall. Hmmm...food for thought and tempting!
  21. Cheers - I had, but doesn't seem to let you use to manage products till you've bought them? Anyway Toontrack, bless 'em, got back to me this afternoon and said: Hi Al, Thanks for your email! This usually happens when running the installer from within a zipped download. Please see this link for instructions on how to solve an error 1311: http://www.toontrack.com/faq/im-getting-error-1311-when-installing-on-pc/ Best Regards, Toontrack Music www.toontrack.com Make sure to download and install the all new Toontrack product manager found here: http://www.toontrack.com/product-manager/ That's actually got me sorted and I'm 'in' Just need to see if I can get the interface screen to be a bit larger - it's a little bit tiny in relation to my desktop screen! Any tips on that?
  22. @EMG456 great post thanks! Might have seemed from another planet at the time, but the design is so elegant and has proved to be enduring: I can still look at your bass and think "yup, that's a beaut!"
  23. Just pulling you onto the main thread so as not to sidetrack the sellers's FS thread too much. But, how are you finding your new bass, a couple of weeks in? Is this your first BB? If not, how does it compare to the rest of your current / previous herd? I'm just so relieved they only have 4 strings, otherwise I'm not sure I'd be able to resist!! One concern I've always had about 30+ year old basses is whether the necks warp a bit over time - is that just an issue that I'm unnecessarily worrying about?
  24. ...but it will still be missing a string whichever way I look 😁 It's ok Andy Travis will be along again shortly. He doesn't like 5 string basses. He loves Yamaha BBs. He knows he wants this. He also knows we know that he knows he wants this. And it's been nearly a week since he bought a Yammy, so he's overdue...😂
