Mick - don't disagree with any of your positive comments. The SR16 and 18 are really good bits of kit and also not exorbitantly priced. But I think I'm correct from what your saying, that you're pretty much using its presets rather than writing your own progs? If so, yes it's gonna be just fine for your needs or indeed something like a BeatBuddy by Sigular Sound would also hit the mark (and be much more compact). My query for this thread is 'cos I'm looking to move on from presets and the Alesis SR16/18 interface is not the easiest for programming your own drum lines in my experience.

IMO an absolutely stunning bass! But a couple of REALLY inappropriate comments by one individual. I'm generally a fan of enthusiastic discussion on FS threads but this, for me, is a very good example of where a comment crosses the line:
-
Alesis Mix4: 200mm x 150mm - 3 usable inputs (including 2 mic) - around £75, but requires a DI and adaptor lead / jack to use the 3rd input. Behringer 1002FX: 189mm x 220 mm - 6 usable inputs (including 2 mic) - around £57 posted (Bax) This Behringer is only 40% bigger (surface), but 30% cheaper and much more 'usable' / expandable. => the Behringer wins. And at £65 for the mixer and a couple of xlr to 1/4" jack leads (as no XLR outs) i.e. less than the cost of an average bass pedal - that works for me! Good shout, thanks Dave (and Woody). (The ideal for what we need would probably be a Behringer 8002FX, but the FX version doesn't exist, as far I'm aware).
-
Ok that's terrible 😂 On the plus side you've managed to flush out another (is that 3 or 4 on this thread now?) very happy owner of a BBP35... @crabman did you go 'straight' to a BBP35 or you had other Yammy BBs before and, if so, how do they compare? Is there a difference in sound? I've not seen an used BBP35 come up for sale yet, which is testimony to how good they must be, and I suspect they're going to get snapped up when they do!
-
Thanks and generally agreed but fortunately we don't need this mini mixer to be too large - we have an Allen & Heath ZED60-14FX up our sleeve for when we out grow this compact model. Behringer mixers are amazing value though.
-
Looks interesting Dave. Maybe be a little more compact than the 1202FX I was discussing with Woody earlier, but still has six "usable" inputs, which will be plenty for my small band line up, rather than the 3 on the Alesis (one of which requires extra leads and DI pedal to use). Could be a very good compromise. I'll go look up the dimensions a bit later...

+1 ^^

If that was a 5 string...fortunately it's not! (Love the fact that he prefers 'burst': only 'cos I know that some folk make out that particular finish causes their eyes to bleed 😂 )

Ok sure, I'll (i) put some guitar and vocals through (at home) and A/B the Behringer B205D vs Alto TS308 vs RCF 310A Mk2 for you and report back - likely to be this coming weekend and (ii) let you know how we get on with it as a band monitor in a couple of weeks time.
-
For sure, but bear in mind we will be primarily using it as a monitor for vocals and it will be replacing a Behringer 205D. I'm going to be VERY disappointed if it doesn't match up / improve on that! Our next gig is in a couple of weeks, so that will be its first outing. What use would you be looking to put it to? I should also be able to A/B against my RCF310A for you at home, (as a one man band with an acoustic guitar or Bass VI) but I'm not sure how useful / relevant that would be!

@bartelby you've hit my issue on the head when you say that the R8 is a lot better to programme and edit than the Alesis SR16, a point which would equally apply to SR18. It's a desire for a much improved work flow that is driving me to look beyond my Alesis SR18. @sammybeeyou say that the 808 clones are bass heavy - I'm interested to know what you're basing that on? The Behringer is only just available, have you managed to try one out already? I'm kinda surprised you can't cut down / edit out the bass heavy element, if you want to?

Onboard bass pre-amps - what turns your EQ on?
Al Krow replied to Al Krow's topic in Accessories and Misc
I'm guessing TJ that you would totally love the preamp on this? And if you didn't have one already, you would jump at this bass?! Aside: new ones are going for around £2.5k and this is a decade old so it would seem that Sadowsky hold their value a lot better than many other basses? (Other than Wals ) -
Hi Figue2B - thanks for coming back to clarify. Out of interest, in your original thread you mention you prefer BB passive, but that is exactly how a number of BB 734/5A owners mainly play theirs and they really like the passive tone on the bass. On the costs point: I still don't get why you lose less money selling second hand to a UK buyer (when there will also still be shipping and insurance) rather than returning it to the UK store for a full refund? The gents making the suggestion were definitely trying to be helpful when they mentioned that, although as saying goes: that ship may have sailed now! But of course at the end of the day, it's your property to decide to do with as you please and I wish you all the best with the sale - it's a great bass!

@Roland Rock Nice demo of what the Copilot can do and there's one currently in the FS if anyone is interested:

Onboard bass pre-amps - what turns your EQ on?
Al Krow replied to Al Krow's topic in Accessories and Misc
Hah! You going to elaborate or leave us hanging? 😀 Was that a Scott Devine moment of deciding you're purely passive player or did you replace with something else? -
Lovely bass but slightly odd FS. This is the same chap who had an earlier FS post in which he said the bass was just a week old (and he had bought it from Bass Direct) and a few BCers asked him why he didn't simply return it to the store for a full refund. He then marked his ad 'Sold':

I think you're going to be in for a treat! I spent a bit more time with this pedal after my earlier post and I'm rapidly coming to the conclusion that the GR2 is a very versatile filter. The sensitivity, attack and tone settings in the pic above are broadly what I'm likely to have these set on. But there's then a LOT of 'quack' / 'squelch' variation from changing the decay from e.g. 11am to 3pm; further variety from the range switch hi / low and you can combine all of that with either an up or down sweep. So I think there's going to be plenty to keep you happy! I look forward to you seeing / hearing your favourite settings when you have had a chance to have a play with the GR2 and no doubt my own fav settings will be different to my first impressions post above as well

I fancy getting to grips with decent drum lines on something a bit more intuitive for programming than my Alesis SR18. I see that Behringer are bringing out their analogue RD 808 (a clone of the Roland TR-808) which looks like a lot of kit for £300 Roland have their own successor, the digital TR-08, which is similarly priced at £319, but is a fair bit more compact: And then of course there is software such as EZDrummer 2 for around £90 Be interested to know what hardware or software you guys are using, what you're using them for and how easy you find them to program and be creative on?

Actually sometimes the opposite - Scott can be / is a bit of a hero for some of us in what he's achieved; but that can lead to unfair expectations of him as a standard bearer for the bass community. +1 ^^ absolutely to all of that I'm going to give a shout out to Mark Smith from Talking Bass, who for me is a better tutor than Scott (and not merely half as good!). Appreciate that's a personal view and others may quite properly disagree.
-
Come on BCers, there must one of you out there with a Fwonkbeta going spare for @bassfan?! 😊
-
As I soon as I have found something better at filter than the Fwonk, I promise you can have first dibs on it. You may wish to make alternative arrangements in the meantime...😁
-
The last of my current uploads for now (till I've worked out how to get something comparably good on the Helix Stomp - don't hold your breath 😂😞 I put the 3Leaf GR2 briefly through its paces earlier and found a setting I liked (as per the pic). For me, it's more subtle in terms of dialling in than either the Fwonk or MXR BEF. In terms of sound it delivers more of a SQUELCH, like traipsing through a puddle in squishy flip flops, than the other two. I'm guessing of the three filters on my board @bassfan is still wishing he hadn't passed up on the Fwonkbeta and let me get it instead Filter 9 - 3Leaf GR2.WAV Filter 9 - 3Leaf GR2.mp3

That's an easy one for me: 1) PJ version of the BB NE2 with a passive / active pull switch 2) neck-through version of the BB 735A in white! PS good question btw!
