Compact budget PA set-up to put bass through (without back-line).
Al Krow replied to Al Krow's topic in PA set up and use
Well, they've arrived! Personally, I think the look of the new 9 series RCFs is an improvement on the older series with the addition of a front grille. They're also not outrageously heavy, although will obviously be more of a challenge getting onto poles than the 310As have been. Speaking of which, I gigged through the 310As on Saturday night, with a 4-piece rock band with no backline, and the bass was just fine in the mix. Can't believe it took me years to get our drummer to give this set-up a go in the first place! Now my bands just accept me turning up with my bass and going through the PA and no back-line without batting an eyelid. I'll give the 912As a spin at home tomorrow and obviously the real test is going to be in a band mix, but I'm expecting / hoping that they're going to be a decent step in sound for the band. Looking forward to it! -

Hey S'manth - loving this project of yours. Another big mutifx fan here. In terms of interface - these guys seem to have raised the bar:

Happy to echo all the other positive feedback on this thread - just bought a pedal from Paul and it was a super smooth transaction. Cheers mate!

Paid online bass courses you've done & can highly recommend
Al Krow replied to Al Krow's topic in General Discussion
Dan Hawkins Bass Lessons - YouTube Came across this fella recently. Excellent. Strictly not a paid a course as such - he asks for contributions, but I love the clarity of his approach and he's big into 16th note patterns which seem to underpin some of the bass greats' styles! -
Hey DB! You'd not recommend the Digitech BSW?

I kinda thought that at the end of last year...and the year before that...oh, and the one previous to that...and actually the one prior ...and ...and ...

How are you finding it? Decent quality step up from the Behringer in terms of sound quality? I've been pretty crap at not getting new kit this year (surprise, surprise) but, fingers crossed I may end the year having sold more than I've bought particularly if I manage to substantially fund getting a replacement PA in by selling one of my bass cabs. In particular, I've managed to sell a couple of basses and not bought a bass in 18 months, and can for the first time in several years get all my electric basses onto one bass rack... Trouble is that rack still has space for 7 basses! I love the fact that so many of the pro bass players (ok not @cetera, haha!) on this forum just have 2 or 3 basses which they gig the hell out of.

+1^^ No question, an amazing bit of kit that would open up the world of midi even for complete novices like me. You've had my views on pricing already - which sadly is likely to be the stumbling block for my getting one.

Yes please - would love come and support you guys! In the meantime, guess I'm gonna have to put up with Mr King's crew playing down in Hastings next month instead 🙂

Mint condition Tech 21 YYZ pedal. Best price I can find online is [update] £219 plus P&P from Gear4Music so hopefully this represents a decent saving given its pristine condition. "Playing through this pedal is a bit like having a tiny Geddy Lee, perhaps half an inch in height, living inside the unit and tweaking the controls from within." Music Radar

That's very useful. It definitely sounds like it's not an appropriate device for midi novices like me, given its features and price, and I'd be much better off with something like an MC6 as a more entry level device. But it does look fabulous and great job on getting it to this stage, Peter.
-
Sure - around same price as a decent multi fx eg Helix Stomp, which is around £450.
-
That's what a lot of us are waiting to find out with baited breath! Turning that question around, I'd be interested to know how much folk might be willing to pay for such a quality piece of kit?

Probs not as good tones as the C4, but maybe worth checking out the Boss SY-200. Flawless tight tracking and has arpegiattor with speeds that can be separately triggered by midi or expression pedal.

Compact budget PA set-up to put bass through (without back-line).
Al Krow replied to Al Krow's topic in PA set up and use
Oh I'd love our drummer to have an electric kit. He might even get some practice done at home then, haha! But I think he was born shortly before the Neanderthals were invented... Tbf all the drummers I work with are good at dialling the volume down e.g. by using rods instead of sticks, when it's appropriate for them to do so. -

I guess the nice thing about the Bergantino design was that rear facing back speaker is low down and also not pointing at the vocal mics - not dissimilar to stage monitors in that sense, although it lacks the ability to independently control the rear facing volume which a stage monitor gives and that would be s a big disadvantage. The market clearly didn't take too kindly to them as I think the HG series may have already been discontinued. Appreciate IEMs would be another solution - but not all musos seem to like using IEMs. Certainly true of the drummer in one of my bands, so the Behringer mini monitor might be a nice solution for him and I know some bass players miss the "feel" of bass when there's no backline. So I guess the other obvious approach for bass monitoring would be a little backline bass combo for stage bass and let the PA speakers do the heavy lifting for FoH. -

But bands use backline speakers all the time, which will be "muddying" the on stage sound? I could see this working really well as a FoH bass speaker and the rear facing cab provding a dedicated bass monitor. Could be neat! -

Check out the Bergantino HG312. Apparently Jim knows a thing or two about cab design!
