@krispn partly agree with you 😉 I will still have the excellent option of the Zoom B1-4 as a standalone micro board together with a Boss WL-20 wireless. Not a pedal guy? Not convinced by that! I've loved trying out LOTs of pedals over past few years. I do agree that they are more likely to be used live by me for original material rather than with my covers bands though. Having got to grips with the B1-4 and created 40+ bespoke patches on that (pretty much all of which are shared on the Zoom B1-4 ideas thread), I do have a bit more headspace for other PC editing but there are several things on that list of which the FI is one and only so many spare hours in a week, eh? The work that @Quatschmacherhas done on the FI PC Editor software is outstanding and has turned the interface from a PITA to something really good and is the key reason I've decided to get another one; being on my gigging mini-board will be a useful nudge...fingers crossed I won't be too far behind your attempts to get up to speed on the SA C4!

Well it is a gigging mini board and the FI is an actual bass synth with hopefully some pretty usable sounds rather than a synth emulator, which is what the FI is, and for gigs having numbered presets that you can scroll through is very helpful (which the SY1 doesn't have). Just like the Zoom B1-4 in that respect. Need to work out how to use the thing now (which took no time at all with the SY-1)...lol!

Well I'd best do this properly then 1. bassfan: OC5 > Proton > VTDI > FI > Zoom B1-4 [3 correct pedals] 2. sumone: OC5 > Proton > Octava > VTDI > Zoom B1-4 [3 correct pedals] 3. gisserD: SY1 > OC5 > Proton > Zoom B1-4 > VTDI [2.5 correct pedals - "half" for SY1 instead of FI] 4. lee650: OC5 > SY1 > YYZ > Proton > Zoom B1-4 [2.5 correct pedals - "half" for SY1 instead of FI] 5. ordep: OC5 > SY1 >FI > Mothership > Zoom B1-4 [2 correct pedals] What I actually went for: FI-->OC5-->Octava-->Proton-->Zoom B1-4 You were close Darren, but sadly no cigar! Ignoring the Zoom B1-4 which wasn't optional, actually @bassfan and @SumOne were the closest with 3/4 correct choices. Paul (aka Bassfan) will be coming over in a couple of weeks to return a piece of kit before the hefty new London car taxes come into force, so I'm sure we will sort this out with beer offsets. But Ben's previously agreed meet up beer got postponed due to hols so half the winnings will gladly go towards a beer or a transfer to his ever expanding pedal fund!

Here you go gents, to save you reading through 18 pages - well actually just 3 pages as it turned out! @ebozzz ended up holding onto the M version. Whilst the T version may be 'warmer' still, personally I don't think the M lacks warmth at all - in fact with the gain pumped it delivers quite a tube-like break up.

Nope, but the person who did posted on that thread

Well, it's gone now to an appreciative new home! 🙂

Hear what you are saying and as I've just been using the Zoom B1-4 as a standalone micro board so far (and will still have that option with my second B1-4), it is indeed currently doing the heavy lifting! Tbf I'm only using fx on half a dozen songs, most work great with simple bass-->amp but it's nice to add a bit extra on occasion whether it be tape echo, chorus or a bit of drive, and I'm sure that is a common approach for many covers players. Speaking of drive, as I've said before, the Octava is fantastic and will definitely be getting used alongside the B7K sim on the Zoom. The Z synth isn't labelled as being a Moog clone or anything else - so it looks like it's just a Zoom effect. The blurb merely states that it "adds analog synth fatness". Which, of course, is a little amusing given that the B1-4 is a digital multifx pedal.

@King Tut - what a great story! Hope you don't mind me reposting the bit about the BV 1001T on here. A mate of mine mentioned that there was a £1,200 used Berg Forte amp in the FS, but with another excellent reminder from you of just what great vfm a new £250 Bugera is I think I will be safely avoiding any expensive GAS on that one!

Just one track so far with synth - I use the Z synth patch on the B1-4 for "Moves like Jagger" which helps fill out our sound out (we don't have keys). It's surprisingly effective with a touch of slap thrown in. I suspect it will be a while before I'm up to speed with the FI and what it can do. Usual cost / benefit of getting to grips with another PC editor vs spending time on other stuff. Yup I'm sure the C4 will be a step up - Helix doesn't excel at filter and synth, as is well known, and no doubt you'll be getting some inspiration from the C4 crowd for that. Personally I'm avoiding the SA pedals until they improve their on-pedal UI and don't need you to buy other kit to properly make use of them, but that's just me.

You're right that the official weight of the CN 212 is 46 lbs, but I recall mine being a little heavier - and I suspect they may vary a bit from cab to cab. Good stuff about the personal trainer, Pete! @bassfan if you get a chance to put yours on the scales, mate, be good to get another 'actual' weight taken. Oh and there's a lot of wisdom in sticking to gear that you know works well. If it ain't broke why fix it? Having said that, it's always fun to try something new - particularly if you can get it used and not take too much of a hit if you decide to move it on.
-
Whereas: "My Fearless F112 isn't going anywhere. I love it." is a flawlessly accurate statement 😁 @peteb if you don't mind the weight of a CN212 which is around 50 lbs, then the Fearless F112 (around 43 lbs) might also be right up your street. Plenty of power handling and a really great cab.
-
With due respect, the first part of that statement is rubbish isn't it? Last time I heard it was going everywhere ...to ALL your gigs! 😁
-
I do love Berg cabs they're great! The BF 210 are deliberately coloured / "retro" I believe, so maybe they were not for you?The mainstream BF cabs are much more transparent and I've certainly had zero issues hearing myself with either my former BF SC or the BF BB2 I currently have. I did love my Berg CN 212 and if it had been lighter I'd have held onto it. The Berg 112s don't quite have the power handling I'd be looking for.

@acroxixo kicking in from 0:58 what a great full meaty bass tone and fits so well with the style of music! I was trying to work out your settings from the video - looked like you had it on PJ combined and I'm guessing with the treble dialled down a bit? And another nice demo of what a great bass the BB1025 is!

WALK A MILE ... ON CLARKE SPELLBINDER BASS.

Not at all - I don't dish out compliments easily! You should definitely repost both your clips on this thread which has a much bigger BC audience than this sub-forum seems to get -

1979 Ibanez MC900 NT Blame it on the boogie (slap)

Nicely done! -
This is what I went for: - micro board = Zoom B1-4 - gigging mini board = FI-->OC5-->Octava-->Proton-->B1-4 - 'creative' larger home board In terms of signal chain, I'd have been fine swapping the synth and octave pedals around at the start - but PB tetris dictated the final order on that one. The remainder were my preferred choice signal chain order. So we just now need to work out who was closest out of you good chaps who played, in terms of (i) exact pedal selection or at least (ii) the correct pedal 'genre' (e.g. synth, dirt) and (iii) tie-breaker of signal chain order.

Now you've got me intrigued as to what pearl of wisdom from you we're missing out on! 🙂
-
Yup, 14mm at the bridge and tapering to a more 'standard' 9mm at the nut which gives it both a narrow string spacing but also a more gentle taper than other 6 string basses. It's Gerald Veasley's budget version of his Ibanez signature bass, the Ibanez GVB1006, and the string spacing was a key specification for him to enable him to more easily play his jazz chordal patterns; it also makes it ideal for 'classical' bass which I use mine for. Sadly no longer in production and they don't come up for sale very often. GLWTS.

+1 to both the above. I also use a Tech 21 pedal (the VTDI) or a presence patch on my Zoom B1-4 to brighten up my Markbass Combo. I replaced my BF SC with a BB2 for exactly the reason @fretmeister mentioned ie to get more high end zing as it tops out at 20 kHz (well above what most of our ears can hear these days, I suspect) rather than the 4kHz of the SC, per the specs, which must mean it starts attenutating at even lower freqs.

Also worth checking this out at 01.13. The EHX Pitchfork offers something similar.
