Some VERY good news at last - live music back by the Spring?

You can't keep locking down until every last job is destroyed. Covid is not even a top 20 cause of death in the UK currently. -

I didn't manage to make it to Colchester over the weekend, but this lot had a great evening from all reports! -

Now that was some board!!!

Suddenly find myself paying much closer attention to your pedal boards for some reason! Maybe the multiple album releases have something to do with it... 😄 So which board is your WMD currently sitting on?

From the start of your GAC 2020 thread, which was taken from @Sibob's original GAC 2019 thread. Now, no more Matt Hancock type behaviour please, of one rule for those in charge and another for the plebs 😁

Damn that's wonderfully creative! Bravo chap!

Haha, good try... What’s a fail? Any purchase or trade of new or used bass gear. 'Bass gear' = anything in your signal chain that you use to make or augment your bass sound /tone. basses, amps, cabs, pedals, PA gear (if your bass is DI’d into this) What’s ok? Anything to look after or organise your existing gear or wear & tear related. Any non-bass gear. strings, gig bags, leads, pedal boards, PSUs for pedal boards, repairs or identical replacement of existing kit, lessons, software related to existing kit non-bass musical gear (this came under a stricter Tier 2 for the completely hair shirted last year) e.g. music software not related to existing kit, keyboards, guitars, drum machines etc. By concession: unsolicited gifts of gear where you had no say in the matter!

You were out 2 months ago, when you upgraded your HX Effects for a HX Stomp...😂

Fantastic! Love to hear where / when / styles of music you were using it on? I'm already a little bit tempted to try one of the full sized GCs, but they come with a hefty price tag!

The only review of the Digbeth pre I've come across so far. It is very well featured, but will it manage to knock a Tech VTDI (or whatever your fav pre is) off it's perch? Jury's is out, but my sense is that it could certainly do some things better e.g. low end retention, while not having as much flexibility in others - the VTDI is ridiculously versatile in the tones it can deliver, which I guess is part of its popularity. I get the point from di Marco of having a tailored pre-amp for each bass (in his case 10 of each!), but I suspect that's not a luxury that most of us would be looking to afford. Speaking of affordability, this one is packing a LOT of bang for its buck. In comparison you could easily be paying £300+ for a Mesa or Darkglass pre. and at its launch price the Digbeth does seem worth having a punt on.

Cheers SM. I thought I'd return the favour by collating it as a pdf for you. Kinga Glyk - Joy Joy.pdf

+1 ^^ (with one tweak 😁) The spec looks great: FET and tube alternative, 4 band EQ with semi-para low mids plus tilt and full headphone amp capability & DI out. And great design too! I'd love to finally get some kit from these guys and support an independent Midland's manufacturer who managed to stay on the road since 1967 and this certainly looks tempting.

Loaded up my board with a WMD which I couldn't resist for very long when it came up used recently, as they're pretty rare over here. I thought it was going to be completely crazy based on some of the YT reviews and that I was going to be at risk of an IED blowing up in my face but, to my slight disbelief, it's turned out to have a surprising number of usable settings and first impressions are that it's actually a more versatile "gated fuzz" than the Mastotron which it has (at least for now) displaced from my board. But even in this Civilian mode, the WMD does make the Mastotron seem pretty un-savage in comparison.

Yet another demonstration (if we needed one!) that Yamaha don't cut corners with their BBs by the very fact that, as here, they sometimes do! Lots of lovely touches on their basses, particularly their more recent and mid range models, eg laminate necks, body-through stringing, spline jointed or even layered wood bodies in the latest series. And over-arching it all, that iconic PJ sound.

Just bought a pedal off Rich. Super smooth transaction, excellent comms and the pedal was very well packaged and arrived on time. Cheers!

Another big fan of her's, here. She's a fantastic ambassador for bass. I'd love to learn Joy Joy: what a fantastic composition. If anyone has come across a decent tab for it, please do share!

It takes serious money to be a struggling musician

@krispn great post. -
Rumble 800 combo = around £750 new, so would it be fair to use that as a steer for your budget? Three suggestions from me: Bugera Veyron 1001M head (£200 new) plus used BF SC cab (£475) will give you a powerful, quality rig; There's plenty of love for the Rumble 500 combo on BC, but as a budget alternative a used TC BG 250 112 should come in at sub £250 and would be hard to beat in terms of value for money; MB CMD 121H is a lovely warm sounding combo (around £400 to £450 used), but I would recommend combining with something like a Tech 21 VTDI to give you additional presence and deal with high-end roll off you get from MB cabs, unless you particularly like/want that more vintage tone. Great that you've found a new band - all the best with that!

Really neat quote from dB5 on another thread, which relates to something that I've been finding with my 1001M, having been giving it a regular (home) work out over the past month... One thing I'm finding with the 1001M is that even with a little bit of gain e.g. at 2/10 it's not completely clean, for example in the way that my DG M900 goes completely clean. I'm guessing due to the MOSFET circuit in the 1001M. That gives the sound a warmth and touching on what dB5 was saying will hopefully mean it cuts through well in the mix. I'll get to find out in couple of weeks when I take it to a full band rehearsal.

This query came up recently just re-posting in here in case of wider interest... What ohm of cabs to go with Bugera BV1001M head? - Amps and Cabs - Basschat

Totally agree Dave - just recently added some dirt to an analogue chorus on a Zoom B1-4 patch and it' makes for cool cutting-through alternative to clean chorus.
