Im still quite interested in a Genz amp. I might try the Shuttle Max 6....but they are quite a lot 'bigger' in size.
+1 Went there for the first time on Saturday to try out some new heads - staff were really helpful, service was great (bearing in mind that it was a Saturday and full of kids trying their best Slash impressions on Guitard Hero) - needless to say got my shiny new Gallien Krueger. No experience of London bass shops - not sure it's worth the hassle, Colchester's only an hour away from home One happy Bottle
+ 1 - Bass Merchant are great. Darren and co have great prices and make you feel relaxed!

Could be amp or bass issue...electrical buzzing
Musicman20 replied to Musicman20's topic in Amps and Cabs
Thant kind of buzz it a way of life with passive basses. Out of interest, where have you got the horn set? The horn in the HS410 is INCREDIBLY lively. I have it rolled almost off on my HS210s. If you've got the knob dialled to 'normal' levels, you're probably hearing the buzz far more than you're used to.
Hey Yeah at first it was set on 'normal'....half way ish....I tried it quite high and it is in no way harsh or piercing...just sweet! But I dont need it that high. I will roll it back a little below the middle setting and see what we get. I remember this bass buzzing a few years back, so Ive probably just not noticed for a while!. Thanks! I cant wait to start gigging this Berg. -
Electrical Buzzing from Bass Hi Guys This used to be an issue for me quite a while back in certain practice rooms and gigs. I have just bought Geoff’s HS410, (originally Toasted’s) for a great price. I got it home, gave it a quick clean and made sure I knew how to remove the casters etc. Anyway, great condition can’t wait to use it properly. I need to be much more precise with my finger style as this cab reproduces everything very accurately. However, I did plug my LM3 into a different socket than I normally do, and I only used my old MIJ Fender Precision. I had that annoying ‘buzzing’ whenever I took my hands off the string etc. Normally, when I try gear out in that room, I use the surge protector that the TV uses. This time I was only giving it a quick check over so I didn’t bother. Obviously when I tried the horn a little higher, and realised it was quite a sweet clear and un-harsh horn, the buzzing got a little louder. Again its only when you take your hands off the metal parts of the bass. I’m assuming it’s either the socket or the old Bass? Is it anything to worry about? Nothing cab wise im guessing? Thanks guys!

How did you get hold of the Avatars?! -
I've just settled on two EBS Neoline cabs. 1x12 & 1x10. Done a few gigs with them and I'm very happy. Super light, great sound especially in the mids / highs. Love the two handles that also act as a subtle wedge. I may change the 1x10 for a 1x12 soon. Also done a few gigs with just one cab. The 10 will cope with very small restaurant gigs but lacks a bit of low end IMO. The 12 has performed very well in medium sized rooms with drums, etc... It has much better low end than the 10 obviously. Together they sound great and I think two 12's would sound huge.
Hey Ive never tried EBS gear….interesting! Thanks for the input. I’ve just bought Geoff’s Berg HS410, so im giving the modular neo setup some more thought. I can’t justify spending just under £100 more on ONE AE112 compared to the price I got on the HS410. So, Berg is out for me….I’ve got a great Berg here so I’ll have to check other 1x12 manufacturers. In addition, me and Geoff had a chat about weight and casters when I bought the HS410, and we both came to the conclusion that If I buy two Aguilar DB112s, I actually have more weight than one of my DB212s, and with no casters. They would also weigh more/the same as the HS410 which seems mental. Sure, they are more modular, which is brilliant, but I don’t see the point in my scenario on getting anymore Aguilar cabs! Just a waste when I have two DB212s and one is damn loud on its own. Two is literally chocolate thunder! So…something that isn’t Berg or Aguilar. And this time, it HAS to be neo and modular. I have plenty of ceramic cabs. Has anyone got any experience with the Traveller Series Mark Bass 1x12s and 2x10s? I picked one up once, and it truly was completely lightweight. They seem to sell quite well on here too. I don’t want to go for something like this if they aren’t considered good cabs…I’ve heard some reports that their cabs are not as good as their amps. As much as Schroeder has had problems recently, the 1212BMF and the 15+ L are VERY small and modular. Also, Barefaced Midgets and Double midgets are a possibility. If they can do what Schroeder does, and push a lot of power in a light package, with 2x12s, but take away the worry that Schroeder brings with it, then I might go for one. I’m also tempted by Epifani…despite me originally being put off them.

I use my friends sometimes. Quite a nice cab. As long as the price is right I dont see why not. No idea if the USA made ones are better...contraversial issue!

BERGANTINO HS410 for SALE..MINT condition/cover
Musicman20 replied to geoffbassist's topic in Amps and Cabs For Sale
Thanks Geoff. Ive got a very very nice cab sat next t me now. Excellent condition. Ive given the casters a quick clean and its as good as new. Its a shame it wasnt right for you, but wow is it super tight and articulate. Very precise, efficient, and so much low end. Im glad I didnt save and spend even more on a pair of AE112s or AE410....as the size/weight really isnt that bad. I've got my Berg GAS settled now.... im gonna keep on watching out for a nice 1x12 but I by no means need it. Only tried it with a MIJ Precision which is my cheapest bass...but still sounded great. Only problem is it does pick up your mistakes as it is so precise...but that will make me better. And yes, after all the worrying, its VERY small for a 4x10, and not even that bad a lift. Tis truely a Berg bargain. -
This will get snapped up soon. Ive noticed a LOT of very high end gear is not selling too well and I think its a small drop in the market at the moment. You only have to see the sale threads on here to notice what great amps are for sale at great prices. I own the same amp, and the tone blows me away. Its simple for a reason...because the amps actual tube tone is so good it does not need all the fancy pre-shapes and extras. Plug it in, crank the gain, look at how awesome it looks, then play away Good luck with the sale.

I had the same sort of cash situation around xmas time. It could have gone on a holiday...and then that would have been it. £1400+ on two weeks, a few awesome memories. So, when I think of amp depreciation, I make sure I remember it could have all been fluttered away. At that sort of price range, upgrading to a better car would have also been a waste. My suggestion is try and test. I bought my Orange for a good price considering I knew it had literally just been put out on the shop floor. So...any early depreciation doesnt matter now because I saved a fair whack anyway. Be prepared to haggle and search for the best online prices. I had my heart set on a classic all tube amp, and if it didnt sing straight away....and I mean instantly, I moved on. I don't understand why people have to eq for a few hours to get their sound. If the amp isn't your sound, no EQ or pre-shape will help you. I tested the Ampeg VR 300W all tube and it just didnt feel right. It weighed far too much, and I knew Ampeg were starting to 'sink' so to speak, so depreciation on that would have been massive. I definitely suggest looking at Mesa, Orange, Hiwatt, Matamp, and Glock. There are a lot more out there. Maybe even a top end lightweight amp? Have fun

Hey! I've revamped my bass gallery mini-site...

Have to say...awesome setup. I love P's i sburst....youve got all 'basses' covered with those necks -
Im going to try and get down to Bass Direct just to at least test the Bergs soon. I need to know what all the fuss is about! Then and only then do I know what to do.

I have heard a few basses really pulling off the proper Fender J Passive tone, but still not perfectly. But that could be amps, technique, anything. I am basically looking for the best 5 string Jazz...classic bodyshape, two single coils, probably passive, that growls like a Fender Jazz but has something different about it.
If you can get a good deal, go for the 08/09 US jazz. Great build quality, great sound, great case! and it will sell quite well compared to mex etc. The new Jazz and P basses are top notch, and if you can get one for like £750 is gotta be worth it. At the end of the day a Fender JAzz is just that, and no sandberg/sadowsky/lakeland will ever be a Fender Jazz. They may copy the tone, and even sound better in some cases, but they wont sound like a true jazz bass. when i had my jazz, I tryed a lakeland jo osbourne, and while good, it did not have that growl of the fender.
Hey I was looking at getting a J Osbourne 5 as well. Do they really not hold up to a Fender Jazz? The Fender Jazz tone for me is perfect! Who makes a quality Jazz 5 thats close to Fender sound as you can get?

Alternatives = Aguilar DB8x10, Orange OBC8x10. I have heard the Aguilar...it is INSANE. SO much more low end than the Ampeg 8x10.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7jGkNm-vZLk...re=channel_page 8x10 will be a beast...but SO heavy. Confirmation of 1000W Bass Terror makes me very happy. Add that to the GAS list plz. I wouldnt mind hearing their SP cabs...wonder what the 4x10 is like?! They are TINY.

If you have an 8ohm 2x12...I think you can just add an 8ohm 1x12 with no problems....I dont see why not...anyone else know?
-
Personally...I opted for 2 DB212s....as a large rig instead of an Ampeg which I got rid of. These bury the Ampeg....but mainly in the thick yet articulate tone. Loving Aguilar gear.
