1. I think the new ones are all tube. Never really tried Fender for bass amps. Their guitar amps have some of the BEST cleans ever...great for blues and indie....but never ventured into their bass gear, (despite the fact my favourite Fender 'guitar' amp is actually the bassman, originally a bass amp!)
2. Looks good. I can try and take it to a practice or two and a gig...lots of em coming up.
3.
Dude!!! I have just downsized from my Trace 8x10 to a David Eden 2x12. Never looked back.... The way it changed the sound of me and the whole band was amazing, it instantly made the bass warmer, more like thunder and made the guitars cut through more rather than battling against the angry mid range of the 8x10. Dont worry about not being heard, i play in an aggressive metal band and thought it would never work, thats why it stayed at home for over a year. I recorded with it and then tried it in a live situation and the difference was amazing. If you can find one, try it... they are amazing. Im trying to find a second one.
Agreed on the 2x12! Basically, its like a warm sonic punch! But its still gives you nice details if you get the right cab. Surprisingly dead loud.
4. Someone...should buy this. I sold the two same cabs for nearly this price WITHOUT THE AMP....its a BARGAIN! Built like a tank....cabs last and last and last!
5. The Stingray looks the coolest though, (yes, I am vain).
6. Thankfully all my GAS is bass related, sometimes guitar. I get no GAS for cars....thank god. Cars just annoy me...unless its a high end Audi.
7. I am in fact VERY tempted. Watch this space...so to speak. If my car sells tonight I might grab this....I was going to offer a little less...but I dont want to offend....if thats possible! EDIT - Car sold instantly...can borrow some to aid GAS...arghghghg
8. If you dont mind about 70lbs plus removable casters, seriously check Aguilar DB212s. I am VERY impressed with mine. Thick, full, articulate, and throaty. They are VERY loud....even one 8 ohm one. Excellent cabs.
9. Oh heck! Literally bought one a few weeks back exactly the same. I have to say this is currently my favourite bass. The 08/09 improvements are brilliant. Good deal to be fair.
10.
LED's: wait til you are old and your eyes are not so good .. then those tiny little Fender side marker dots just dissapear under stage lights and in the dark ... oh and "Tech 21 Sansamp BDDI"
Man I need quite powerful glasses! I hope they don't get too much worse. The laser option might come up soon! Although strangely theyve got better recently. Sansamp is love/hate like marmite. Its the ultimate lightweight rig...I just took that and a bass/leads on tour last year...with all the normal other bits n bobs...but no amp/cab. We just didnt have the space.
11. Any LEDs on a bass hahah! Its a bass! Too many settings and controls on an amp...if you need to fiddle with it too much, its a sh*t amp, (note this is half just a joke). (I do this next one)...thinking about great tone and striving really hard to get it..when all it takes is a little skill, a little patience, a non-complex bass and amp/cab. Should spend more time on practice and enjoying it! But...I kinda enjoy GAS sometimes.
12.
I see they say that getting a good bass sound is one of the hardest things when recording. I've always found it an absolute doddle, pick up bass, plug in, play, done - so I must be doing something right! I spend a thousand times as long getting the drums sorted. Alex
+1. I just always find a clean technique and a good quality bass are all you need.
13. Any kind of 'trend' with products...which leads to the rest being slagged off, and then some months later its the best product ever. Cannot stand small bodied bass guitars. It a bass, not a guitar.
14.
I'm not too sure, I'd guess at being earlier.
I THINK....the newer S2 has a different type of grille...not 100%. Still awesome price.
15. She aint that bad...I agree with Wayne...I can only imagine what she likes to get upto
16. I prefer vintage passive tones, apart from Stingrays. A passive P or J bass pounds away just as hard...sometimes some active basses sound far too clinical and overly eq'd. I will eventually get another active instrument, but it will have to have a passive option.
17. Wow....now this is the type of 5 string I want. Might PM you...I have major GAS.
18.
Price drop £499. Mint condition and a series 2, and now cheaper than the other one advertised here
Good price! Just out of interest...is it the early Series 2, or later Series 2?
19. Me too...Ive only recently been down so I dont think I can make it!
20. Hey Geoff Still watching this. Gassing like mad. If you decide to accept any lower offers let me know. I know its tip top condition etc...and also a great Berg cab.
21.
Hi Alex, I'd be interested in seeing a photo of a Midget on top of a Compact, plus the results of your testing.
+1 on any photos
22. I had the 400 head....great sound and built like a tank. Classic Trace gear
23. I bet it does sound good with those Tecamp cabs
24.
Hmm, I'll try to help as well as I can (not sure about all the questions exactly) Output is fairly high in my experience - I've often had to keep the gain fairly low to avoid distortion especially when sliding up the neck Neck is shallow, wide but shallow. It's got a lot of punch, and can sound warm ( I roll off treble a lot as well). Not sure about "deep" ? though No swaps sorry, I'm keeping the collection down. Hope thats of some help at least - you are welcome to try it if you fancy the journey Jas
Just to help...there are some great demos of this bass and its background on youtube by Tony himself. Ive watched them a few times and it makes me want it more. A bass like this is always going to have stacks of warmth, and a nice deep p thud Just my input I have noticed that my two USA Fenders have a really healthy output.
25. I want this! Out of all fretless basses I want this one!
