One thing I miss about the process of buying and playing vinyl records is the smell...
Yeah, same with books, most of mine are on the Kindle. I love the smell of print and good paper and cardboard
Duuuuude this is awesome. loving this track. it's now in my faves. let me know when your touring.....I'll be there like a shot
Cheers Gav! That's so lovely to hear. I don't know of you are aware there are 5 tracks on it ? Will definitely post details of the tour when I know them. Thanks again!

Thank you for buying it Fly! I really hope that having it on vinyl AND getting a pretty snazzy USB with the WAVs, AND having the gorgeous packaging makes the music experience a more immersive ritualistic experience. ECC are refusing to release it on iTunes and Amazon and what have you. This could be a good or bad thing, we'll find out soonish! But it is a philosophical decision from the record company.
The sun are in the process of phasing out page 3, they are not shouting about it but it is filtering out.
Yeah apparently so. The breasts will get smaller and the cod philosophy will get larger until Page Three becomes a Piers Morgan column.

Brazilian girl sent home trying to see Level 42 in UK
That's my take on it as well . . . . in the absence of the full story.
It may have just been a stupid mistake by our border security, who knows, then we'll know the instinctive sympathy was deserved. In which case, as usual because of all the publicity, Mark King will pay for her to fly back over, she'll see a gig from the front row, get invited backstage to meet the band, get drunk, and no doubt get stuck to Seat 38 on Phydeaux III -
It was one or two specific posts in the thread that pushed it over the edge.
Typical, but expected. Some peeps can be rather puerile when confronted with a picture of a woman whose legs are not firmly clamped together. Thanks WoT and thanks G

No criticism of the mods from me on this, but I'm interested in the philosophical implications of why it's ok for kids to see sexualised images of women baring their breasts in The Sun, but not on Basschat. It is obviously legal to publish such images as there is no age restriction of The Sun, there were no naked breasts in this thread or on Huff Post. So is it simply context?
OK then, here's a Brazilian Shorthair after having received mentioned Close Shave. Dunno why you need pics of it, but there you are.
I'm not saying we should, of course. Border controls exist for good reason. I'm just surprised at the dearth of sympathy on display - assuming that she had traveled all that way to watch her favourite band. Which I like to assume, given that we don't know for certain either way. That's not to say that her paperwork was in order. Something was obviously amiss for her to be sent packing. But it's interesting how quickly some of us jump to the assumption that she's a ne'er-do-well - when she may just as equally be a passionate music fan who missed ticking a box on her holiday visa. Glass half full or empty, I suppose. Personally, I'm of the half full persuasion. But to each his own. And besides, I skipped all kinds of rules and regulations going to gigs as a teenager - let alone as a young 20-something. So the idea of going to such extremes to watch your favourite band doesn't seem so alien to me. Although I never got as far as Brazil... Birmingham perhaps, but that was alien enough at the time
Sympathy for what though, mate? No-one knows what to be sympathetic with apart from what they can assume from twitter and the OP. -

She's a traveller. If she is on holiday over here, whether that's to go to museums or see bands, that is irrelevant. There must have been something weird going on for her to be sent back to Brasil, surely. -
New bass for around a grand.or keep what I've got.
xilddx replied to red rooster's topic in General Discussion
Definitely don't spend that money on a bass. At the moment you're excited by getting a new bass which will make no difference to the way you play or how good you are. PLAY and PRACTICE! Enjoy playing, and hearing your progress and imagination improve instead. The better you get the more the wood and metal becomes irrelevant. At some point you'll develop your needs and wants beyond your Squier (but maybe not because they are good) and then you can go out and try a load of new and second hand basses and buy one that fits your current aesthetic. Give it a year or so -
So sorry to hear this Pete. I hope things improve for you soon mate. x
Thanks mate! Looking forward to getting your new EP soon! I love what I've heard of it. Just found out Sheema's album is Featured Album of the Month on Folk Radio UK! There's a lovely long review of it by them here http://www.folkradio.co.uk/2014/10/sheema-mukherjee-sheema/ Fab! -

Does body wood make a difference to the sound of a bass guitar?
xilddx replied to Annoying Twit's topic in Bass Guitars
My friend Pete, Of course not bad feelings for a fellow brother in arms, really. On a serious side. I don't want to get showy but I have six Smths high end sixers and even if they all have the same electronics and pickups, they all sound different. Ok, maybe not for the uninitiated ears but quite different in fact. This difference is not between good and bad but each wood combination had a specific flavour. Mahogany body sounds different than maple or walnut. This is why specially in the classical luthiery the woods, their quality and looks are very important for the final result, of course the mastery of the craft is again more important. Of course not all beautiful "cofee table" exotic woods are tone woods but at least the ones that master builders like Fodera, Smith..you name them, use for their instruments are really top of the notch and have a deep impact over the overall sound. This sound flavour is also present for the neck wood, fretboard wood, heel wood, etc. Try to make the total of these combinations and you'll understand why this matter is not just white and black. I would make here a paralel with the art of the great chefs in the kitchen or with the art of winery or wiskey. As you said it's not here the place to have arguments but...even if we like it or not the luthiery is an art and not a daily job, something like making music. It's subtile and complex and this is why I really appreciate it. Best
Yes but how do you know it's just the wood making the difference? -
Bloody hell. I know you shoot straight from the hip but that did come as a shock! I've been talking about this at home for the entire day which is what prompted me to post it on here. I want to honour the gigs because I enjoy playing, and I stick to my word, but I can't condone this behaviour. Aside from the events of today, The two girls that follow the band around always create hostility towards any other women who try to dance or enjoy themselves and will eventually destroy the reputation of the band... Which I'm sure this thread will eventually do! I know I'm just venting, so I apologise. But cheers! Any further advice on what to do now would be very helpful
I agree with Mr Castle. Loyalty to my partner would make me f*** off immediately and tell the rest of the band the reason for it. Absolutely unforgivable behaviour from the singer's gf. EDIT: Oops, I'm late to the party aren't I! Great outcome Chris, nice one!

They sound good man, but i think they need more 'attitude', more punch if you know what I mean, if you want them as stand alone pieces. But they have a lot of potential for an angle, maybe an interesting solo instrument or some voice of some sort.

That's pretty much what I said to her when she first got a bass all those years ago, bass is a good fit for a sitarist. We think playing bass is hard on our hands and fingers, try sitar, she's been playing for about 35 years and her fingers still look like this quite often
Thanks for the reply. I was advised by OH to return to them straight away if the numbness continued. It didn't and I have had no symptoms since, so I think the rests have solved the issue for me. We have an online DSE assessment (I know, that is the 2 yearly ticking box one) but the OH are actually peoples and they will visit your desk if you have problems.
Cool. It's not box ticking, it's the most efficient way of collecting data and dealing with identified problems.
