1.
Aye - loved early Adam and the Ants (Xerox, Whip in my Valise, Dirk Wears White Sox etc), and love Monochrome Set even more...
Here's their myspace page - check Eine Symphonie and He's Frank for those who don't know them!

Ah, the Monochrome Set! Lester Square is a cool guitar player with a cool name. We dig the 'Set in our house.

The main thing I noticed when trying all the lovely basses at the Yorkshire Bash was how low the actions were on all the modern instruments. Seemed to me to be much harder to influence the tone with my fingers, and I felt like it was all dependant on the electronics of the instrument and amp. WoT's basses were the notable and glorious exceptions.
+2

I also like a medium action. I can't see how it's possible to play so delicately with stage rush. Fingers, and nail length for that matter, are SO important in your sound, the variables in your equipment all become, well, more variable, more toneful.

  3. "Funk" originally meant the smell of sex. All sorts of music can be funky. If you are going to "funk" you need to play sexy. Approach it like you are making love to the drummer who should be equally sexy. In terms of playing in a band, funk is much more about what you leave out than what you put in. In the words of many very funky people, the funk is a lifestyle. It's not easy, that's for sure!

  4. Waitrose usually have some ethically sourced farmed bass but I prefer wild bass caught on rod and line. Expensive though.

In terms of musical equipment, almost everything I buy comes from ebay. I buy the odd piece of kit from Thomann and Digital Village though. I almost never buy anything from a physical shop. I will except the Bass Gallery from that statement though.

  5. Hello, I really like it, but I think it would benefit from some more punch in the mix. The vox would sound cool with a little dirty compression. The songs, the words and the image come over as forceful and confident, but the mix doesn't back that up, the mix sound a bit twee to my ears. Very cool looking singer. I reckon you should get someone to remaster it.

Just my opinion, hope it's constructive. ;) Only saying it because I think you've really got some potential there.

  6. Hello Mate,

Excellent tunes. I am sure I've seen you play live, since we were actually playing the same festivals as you and in the same year. Our agent looks after Oojami and lots of world music outfits. http://frusion.co.uk/ if you're looking for an agent.

I am sure we'll bump into eachother at the festivals!

    Nice one!

EDIT: Ah you are with Frusion already! We have a connection ;)

  7. Just doing that typical YT thing where you play along with a number. These two are from the band I play with.

I'm torn between the sounds, one seems nicer than the other but I'm not sure it's the one I wanted it to be.

    Cheers.
    Nigel

  8.
I did a bit of a mixture of the Atlanta version and the album version, in other words its the Atlanta version with a dropped D. I just thought it sounded nicer dropping to D. Its really nice to sing too.
Exactly what I do too. Beautiful song to sing, I agree. Cheers.
