1.
Hi, I used to deliver newspapers on both Granville Mount and Pool Road. I know the name Ashley but I can't think of Christian names. I went to Otley Secondary School, leaving in 1965 - I was in three local bands, namely Peter & The Wolves from 14 to 16 years old, Sons of Sin from 16 to 18 years old, and Ellisons Hogline from 18 to 20 years old. I was pro from 18 until I was 24 when I came back to Otley and eventually married at the age of 25. My name is Brian Duffissey. Ring any bells ? Brian.
I will ask my wife if she remembers any of this. She was Noeline Ashley, and the others were Keith, Julian, Richard, Peter, Clifford, Paul and Vivien, all around yours and Noeline's age. Let you know Steve
2.
Well, what a surprise, I'm from Otley also. (Garnett Street, to be precise) I now live in Menston, nr Ilkley, and have done for the last 28 years. "Old haunts" - Weston Lane Youth Club Otley, Stoney Lea Hotel Ilkley,Craiglands Hotel Ilkley, Troutbeck Hotel Ilkley, Winter Gardens and Kings Hall, Ilkley, Pool Village Hall, Bramhope Youth Club, None Go Byes Farm Cookridge, Mechanics Institute Otley, Queens Hall Burley in Wharfedale. Crystal Bowl Castleford, Hernandos Coffee Bar Leeds, Jubilee Hall Chapeltown Leeds, etc., etc.,
Oh God - now the top is off the can - my wife lived in Granville Mount, and we still have family in Pool Road. She went to school at Prince Henry's and and spent her youth in all those places you did. She also had several cousins in Otley, all Ashleys. Let me know if you knew any of these. I feel a remeniscence (spelling??) over a pint coming on. Steve
3. The ash bodied P is beautiful - but my GAS was sated last week with the purchase of Tinman's Jazz - and it's GORGEOUS.
4. Hi Dave The plan nearly worked, I was expecting the bass to have the white pickguard fitted and the torty as the spare, and it came the other way round, and it looks great, so sorry mate but I am going to leave it like that. You can have the white one, but that's probably not much good Steve
5.
Thanks for that Steve, but would it fit a MIM?
If it arrives (not certain yet), I can send it over, see if it fits and if not send it back.
6.
Hi guys, I want to get a brown tortoiseshell scratchplate for my MIM Jazz. Anyone know where I can get a Fender one, or at least on that will fit ;-) What I don't want to do is have to re drill screw holes, or anything like it! Thanks in advance for any info.
I have a MIA coming on Friday from a fellow BCer, and I think there may be a spare torty scratch plate with it. I'll PM you if so. Steve
7.
It is easier to seek forgiveness than to ask for permission...
But infinitely more painful.
8. Hi John I have a USA jazz coming on Friday, I will post all the gory details when I have a couple of days to find out all the ins and outs. Steve
9. Please accept my apologies if this has been aired before - but:- Which Bass books have you guys (and gals) found to be the best when learning the things you do?? It would be good to have a reference thread for people who want to learn (either from scratch or different elements of bass playing), so rather than trawl through an endless list of books on Amazon, we have a place to go and look what is best. For me (recently working on walking), I have used the Ed Frieldland "Constructing Walking Bass Lines" which has been superb. Any more suggestions?? Steve

Hi Jim Welcome on board - enjoy the banter Steve
11.
Yes, that's it , is it still in existence? How about the Crystal Bowl, Castleford ? "The youth of today, eh, the' don't know the' born". Rhino
As far as I know Newton House is still there, but the Crystal Bowl has been a bingo hall for about 20 years I think. My wife is from Otley, our kind of age, so she will remember all the old haunts of your youth. (Should I really be opening this can of worms??) Steve
12. And again
13. PM'd.
14.
, I'm from the Ilkley area, (baht hat etc., etc.,) I've played wakefield a few times in the 60's and 70's - Newton House ? Cheers, Rhino.
Used to be the called the roundhouse, next to the roundabout - is that the right one?? Wow - digging up the past now
15.
Makes the famous Westgate Run a bit of a marathon now
Westgate run me for always ended at Henry Boon's which is where I fell over. Did you go to school at Rodillian - and what years??
16. Bump - Just in case anyone knows someone starting out in Bass who would like a nice bass to learn on - or gig on.
17. Hi Grinn I know it well, I used to play cricket at College Grove and my son went to QEGS. I used to live at Oulton. Had some good nights at Rooftop Gardens (is it still the same??). Steve
18. Plays as nice as it looks too
19. Hi Grinn Welcome - where in West Yorkshire?? I have lots a friends and family there (I am from near Selby originally). Steve
20. Hi All I am looking to sell my Squier P Special bought earlier this year, for no other reason than I have been offered a USA Jazz and need to the money to help finance the purchase. The bass is in as new condition, has been used solely for practice and has never been gigged, and can be delivered in the box it came in. It is a Made in Indonesia, serial number is IC070417134. These seems to retail new between about £180 - 220, and I am looking for £150. I can deliver personally if you are somewhere reasonably close to the Midlands, otherwise next day delivery un UPS will be £12. Steve
21. Excellent idea, I can scan some in - be watchful of copyright and distrubution though- mine are downloaded freeware.
22. I'm just about to start Clapton's autobiography - it's a big book. Should keep you out of mischief.
23. Learn walking lines - Ed Friedlands book is good, from basic stuff all the way to complicated walikng - and easy to follow too.
24. I have a 19" and a 21" cluttering up the cupboard - just a shame to throw em in the skip.
25. Sunday for me all being well
