+1 Homer. As they say youth is wasted on the young. Wish I'd tried harder when I was 15 and the brain cells were still fresh. I'm sure several years of chemical abuse shortly thereafter didn't help either. I always wanted to learn some of the extended versions of Grateful Dead songs but I have neither the improvisation skills nor the memory to do it now and at 55 I suspect the time is past. My only offering is to try to break it down into manageable chunks, get those really automatic (endless repetition) and then try to stitch them together. Even an old brain works better in the morning - my mother used to make me do my piano practise between 6:30 and 7:30 in the morning (which I really rebelled against in later life) but I suspect that as with many things your elders know best! Very best of luck. Nick S
Hi Nick - How are you?? I find keeping the lead sheets handy and work from them is fine - I don't think anyone would complain if you kept the lead sheets on a music stand and refer to them when you need to, even just as an aid memoire before the start of the song. I have just started doing some dep work with a jazz trio, and find that anything simple (12 bars for example) I can rattle off okay, anything more complicated I read. At 54 I have the same problem as you guys, the old grey matter is not what it used to be. If only I knew then what I know now........................ Steve

I played a gig last night and after the first line played all the way through a number reading the wrong line. Someone in the audience bought us all a drink cos it's her favourite song and she thought we did it beautifully.

Imagine what the band would sound like without the bass and drums. You are more important than you think.
Are you gonna post your gigs up Mark - perhaps BIYF could go along and watch? Unfortunately the Ferrets play British Legions and such that are not open to non-members.
I've never seen a British Legion where a pint didn't get you in.
Possibly. My view on what has happened here is that the problem is that the claims assessors are employees of the company I'm claiming against. They are probably targeted with not approving more than a certain number or value of claims per month. Once that decision has been made - one of hundreds that day, I am sure, and by a low down person who cuts and pastes a letter from some source - then the superiors support that decision whatever. Many of the conversations I have had with them have loudly resonated with "we cannot change this decision no matter what you say, even if we see your point and agree with you" That's 1st and 2nd level managers refusing to change a decision made by a drone .... How many commercial companies would do that? In real life the operative at the cutting edge would get a bit of retraining and advice, the process would get a review (in this case the yawning chasm between the packaging advice given to customers by front line staff and that by which the wrapping is assessed by the drone in claims) and the manager, being gifted with the wider view of business, would override the decision and pay out in the hope that the customer might return and tell mates how well the problem was resolved and how apologetic the company was... It's old but true.. do exceptionally well and the average customer will recommend you to 5 mates, do badly and the average customer will tell 15 mates not to do business with you.
Another part of this is that we live in an increasingly litigious and blame cultured (is that the right phrase??) world, and the first line of the manual says ADMIT NOTHING. Blame the packing, blame the customer for incorrectly addressing it, blame anybody, but admit nothing. -
I don't understand these company drones - it's not their money and they will not be rewarded for keeping hold of it, so WHY DO THEY FIGHT SO HARD WHEN THEY'RE IN THE WRONG?
In the parcels/shipping iundustry the drones are given 5 seconbs training and made to sit by a phone, and given a manual written by a consultant. The whole thing is a recipe for disaster. The drone will (in some cases) tell you whatever comes into their head, and then the supervisor or manager drone tries to tell you what the manual says. A/ The first drone hasn't a clue and B/ The manager drone can't understand the manual. The thought here is that as they have half read the manual and you haven't they can BS you all day bcoz you don't know any different. It is good that someone really takes them to task sometimes and gets them to wake up. -
For Moondance you really need to sit down with the record (and chord chart) and get that swing walking bass feel it has. It's one of those tunes where you almost have to do a karaoke version or the feel goes out the window .. Sorry mate but there's not really an easy way to do it...
I am doing quite a lot of swing walking lines at the moment and getting the feel down nicely. I am looking foward to getting this down so that I can experiment with and add somme fiddly bits of my own.
Awesome, I'll take a copy of that too, as I like to mess about on the ole geetar and do my best 'singing in the shower' crooning on the odd occasion ;o)
Electric Guitar + Shower = Crispy Dood

Hi Stuart This is spot on thanks (even the words for extra guidance!!) and I have the notation to get the phrasing right. Mucho midnight oil to get this right for a gig next week. Thanks all for your help. Steve
-
Thanks Jennifer That may help me, I will try that. Thanks Dood I have a similar piece of software that will give the notation, but my sight reading is not quick enough, so I need to put the chords on and then I can wing it from there. I will apply Jennifers chords to the notation and see where that takes me. Thanks both Steve

How come he has a free week if he's that good??
It could be the root and b9 of a D7b9 chord. Stu
Sorry guys, too early in the morning for me, I should have said difficult to say without see the notes in betweeen, but D7b9 or Dm7b9 are the obvious choices. Steve
-
It is not a chord I have ever seen, do you know what the next note is after the (8)?, he may just be using it as a chromatic passing tone to the next chord.

I asked the question, here is what they said:- Ambi-Pur perfume doesn't contain any materials classified as corrosive, but, as with any perfume liquid, including skin fragrances, it can affect certain surfaces should it come into contact with them. This is why the packaging carries clear instructions that the diffuser must be kept upright at all times (to avoid spillages) and not to use the product on or near painted, polished or plastic surfaces. I'm afraid we don't give out our formulations, but I can tell you that the liquid contains just pure perfume ingredients, and an alcohol carrier to help it evaporate evenly. I hope this information answers all your concerns, but please feel most welcome to contact us again if you've any further questions. It says you shouldn't use it near polished painted or plastics, but as most surfaces in a house are polished, painted on plastic, I'm not sure where you are supposed to use it. Steve

- from experience items sit in customs for a good 3/4 days at least. Ped and others interested in buying from Germany, there are no longer any customs controls, and a good courier company should get it here next day. (UPS and DHL certainly would) Steve
