1. Hi Pete Welcome!! Same fingering problem as me, I am on the lookout for finger extensions. Steve
2. Hi Guys Bought a fretless neck from Sibob, arrived in 2 days, exactly as described. Top man to deal with. Steve
3. I have fired an e-mail off to their customer services, I will post the reply here for the info of all. Steve
4. Try a new battery first - that's cheaper
5. Methinks we should try and find what is in this stuff - I will make some enquiries.
6. Hi Rich Welcome to the fold. You can of course practice without an amp, I did for ages. Get a couple of good tutor books and learn some scales, and a tuner (unless you have a good ear and a piano). Learning some theory will also serve you well in future, as will learning to read music. Best of luck, if you need help with anything, post your queries here, there are always people on here who will be happy to help. Steve
7. Seems like some of these retailers can't be a****. Wonder how soon they'll go bust.
8.
Did you find it absolutely necessary to vandalise a nest of polished tables with this dangerous substance whilst Mummy and Daddy table left the nest unattended as they were obviously both out hunting at the same time to meet the incessant demands of hungry baby tables?
I just unplugged it and put on the table - how was I to know it was going leak and ruin the furniture, after all I am only a man. (Even if I am second in the footy table - just ahead of the nearest woman).
9.
Tis true about the Ambi-pur thing. We had one spill onto a painted shelf and it lifted the paint right off.
We ruined a nest of polished tables with this stuff.
10. I have a P Bass copy by "Riks" in sunburst which looks beautiful, until you realise thay have used a banana for a neck. It is in the process of being fitted with a fretless neck supplied by Sibob, and I hope it will then sound as good as it looks. Steve
11. Hi Mhuk This is brilliant - just what I've been looking for. Steve
12. Sometimes I envy the single guys, but then my kids are my life - even at 23 and 21. They make all the rest of it worthwile. Son of 21 is still at home and interiminably untidy but has agood job and is financially ok. Daughter of 23 lives and works in Jersey and permanently at the counter of the bank of mum and dad. Absolutely great, both of them.
13. Your local guitar shop should have some empty boxes kicking around, if you can get of those it would be good, and some bubble wrap to push in and keep tight within the box. +1 on parcelforce, someone like Citylink would be a better option. My new bass came from GAK on Citylink and arrived here almost in tune. Steve
14. Hi Rufus from another oldie - since I came back to Bass last year after a long time away I have been quite happy to relearn everything and loads of new things, and been happy to have an odd jam at home with my wife (pianist) and a couple of friends who are g*********. It's been coming along okay too, and now some clown has offeredme a gig!!. Nice restaurant, Piano, Bass and Drums, some Jazz , a few standards just my kind of gig really, and then he says "you are old - you will already know all this stuff". Little does he know - mucho midnight oil being burnt polishing my sight reading skills!! Steve
15. We are all guilty of making things worse by tiptoeing round her afraid to speak once she gets a cob on, for fear of the dragon breathing fire in our direction. In order to counteract this you have to completely ignore her mood and be dead cheerful. They only get a cob on to make you feel guilty, bcoz remember - IT'S YOUR FAULT. So, be happy, whistle a few tunes, sing if you must, but don't give her the satisfaction of thinking that you might be guilty. She will quickly get p***** of with your cheerfulness. A little aside ditty to this, a few weeks ago she was sweeping the kitchen floor, and she has trouble getting the brush into the difficult corners, and getting frustrated with it and I could feel the cob from yards away, so I take the brush and have a go myself. So dead impatient she says "No trun the brush round" so I turn the brush endways, and it still didn't work, so she says "No, the other way" so I trun it longways the other way and I still wrong, so she says "No the other way", so at this point I point the head of the brush upwards and start to sweep with the end of the handle. Just as she was turning purple I turned the brush back the right way - and the head fell off. At which she couldn't have a cob on for laughing. Keep smiling
16. As a man on a third marriage - albeit for 21 years this time, I speak from experience - to all those who are not married remember:- Once you're married IT'S YOUR FAULT. Is she drops a plate when washing up - it's because you didn't buy a dishwasher If she decides we go on holiday to the Dominican Republic and we all get food poisoning - it is because you didn't talk her out of it. If your luggage gets lost as well, it's because you picked a crap airline. (even though she picked the holiday). If son's room looks like a landfill - it's your fault If son get's a cob on because mother is on his case - it's your fault If it rains when the washing is out (like now) - it's your fault (even more if she gets wet bringing it in) If she has an accident in the car - it's because you washed the car and the sunshine reflecting off the bonnet dazzled her. They are a million more - but the principal is the same. Having said all that we almost never argue, but then I'm used to everything being my fault, so now I get selective deafness when she starts.
17. I just went into the village newsagents, told him what I wanted and bingo - it drops on the mat.
18. Hi All A word of advice from the experts if possible please, I am turning my old worthless P copy into a fretless (at least having a bash at it), and the question is - Rounds or Flats - or is just a matter of what sounds best?? Any help would be much appreciated. Steve
19.
oh wow is me, i can't view the pics properly i also have a jv squire bass & a customised korean squire bass & those who were at the midlands bass bash approved i believe
I loved these at the bash, so I went and bought one - pics when I sort my brains out
20. Just Music in Loughborough has a Jazz which he will get for less than 400. The guy beats me over the head about it every time I go in. He has also got some nice Yammy's
21. Hi Simbass Welcome to the fold, I hope you find it rewarding. The nearest member to where you live (as far as I can tell) is Tinman - he may be able to give you more information on what's happening near you. Steve
22. Do you know who handles USPS items in the UK?? I guess it should be Royal Mail or Parcelforce, in which case they are the people you need to contact. Customs clearance should take no more than about 3-4 hours including preparing the paperwork (I do it all the time). You will probably find that this is catch all excuse which really means "we are crap - it will be there a couple os days". Steve
23. I just like hitting things with sticks.
Including the guitarist no mdoubt.
24. Thanks everybody for your help on this, I will persevere with open strings and see where it takes me. Steve
25. Years ago when I first played bass my teacher told me never never never play on open strings bcoz you can't control the length of the note. (Then in my young days I was playing more rock). Playing again now and learning to play walking lines and sight read, my teacher advocates using open strings to keep the notes phat and long. (He is by trade an upright player in a big band who plays some bass guitar as well). This concept is extremely alien to me and sounds to my ears "Mushy". What does everyone else think, should I be persevering and learning on to use open strings, playing without open strings, or changiung my teacher?? Steve
