Nice to see you back Chris Steve

Go to a music shop and try a right handed bass, and see if it feels okay, if not try a left handed, go with whichever you find easier. As far as I know most basses come in left or right hand (someone will tell me I am wrong in that no doubt), but look at online stores for left handed basses and see what is out there.

This looks like we may be able get something well worthwhile together. Ped / CK any chance of stickying this please so it comes to everybody's attention, and if anyone can drag a drummer / guitarist / keyboards and singer along we could end with a good jam and make some money for Nick's charities. There will be a Midlands bash in Worcestershire in the spring - take as look in "News of NAS". A bass bash in a stately home (there is also a thread and pics somewhere from the 2007 bash we had there). This is definitely not to be missed. More details will follow as we get a bit closer. Steve

Mrs Tinman has yet to find this thread.............

I guess this could be a separate section underneath "Items Wanted". Might keep it more manageable.

I think this is a great idea, let's see if we can plan a great day in Mandy's memory and do some good for a few others less fortunate than us.
Thats sad news about his wife. The house was on her side of the family wasn't it? I hope he's OK and dealing with things. Sounds like it would be a pretty cool event to have. I remember the photos and the property was pretty impressive!
The house belonged to Nick's wife's forbears, it had been in the family for many generations I think.

Hi All For those who went to the Midlands Bash last year, I have had an e-mail from NAS. Sadly Nick's wife died earlier this year, after losing a battle with Lung Cancer, so he has been out of circulation for a while. He is now back to doing some sound engineering and playing with a couple of bands, so let's hope that Bass is helping overcome his loss. Nick is one of the nicest people you could ever wish to meet, and I am sure we all wish him well for the future. He has also let me know that he would like to host a Bash at Shakenhurst Hall next year. Those who went last time will remember what a brilliant and unique place this is for a bash (not every day you get offered free use of a stately home). It will I suppose be May or June, but I will keep in touch with Nick and pass details once a date is fixed. As it is just possible he may be leaving Shakenhurst sometime later next year, I think we should all try and make it memorable occasion. The Hall is slightly out in the Styx (deepest rural Worcestershire), but is well worth the journey (about 90 miles for me, and I wouldn't miss it). Just a heads up for everybody. Steve

Bass sent, and arrived ok, though a day late..... Cost £32.00, inc insurance...... Second Bass, Phoned for collection this time, payed over the phone, £36.00 inc insurance, seems ok, surely. destination, Falkirk, bass collected, Monday, and on its way, then dissapeared for four days ,,!!!!!!!!!!! Fender Standard Jazz Bass® (Upgrade) Bass Guitar,
skywalker replied to aceuggy's topic in Bass Guitars
I am currently playing a Squier P Bass and I have to say I'm pleased with it, but I want to upgrade. Unfortunately I don't have the funds to really splash out. I would like to buy a Jazz and have seen the Fender Standard Jazz Bass® (Upgrade). What do you guys think of this? Is it worth having a look? http://www.dv247.com/invt/34766/
You could try the Squier VMJ, lots of good reports of them on here. -
Anything that improves my playing is good, I'm up for it.

Skunk stripe on the back of rosewood-board Fenders & Squiers?

My Jazz doesn't have one. -
Hi Candybassed Enjoy the banter Steve

+1 on the Hal Freidland books, Building Walking Basslines and Building Rock Basslines. They will at least give you ideas of when to use notes other than the root, but I have found if I am struggling (often!!), play the root but "walk" over the chord change with chromatics to help the bassline to flow.

Mine is a 2005 S1, gorgeous, and no neck dive.
-
Hi H In addition to the others, Squier make some lovely basses these days, including a Precision Bass special, which has a P Body and pickup and a slim Jazz neck, and can be picked second hand for about 150 or so. Best of Luck Steve
-
Chords are rarely played on a bass but any tutor book will show you where the notes are. Learn the notes of each chord, all over the neck and go forward from there
-
I would snap his hands off, that is a lovely rebuild project.

A straightforward holiday adapter should be okay, UK three pin to continental.
