1. Hi Mark Might be easier just to change the neck - I did it on my old crap P-copy and got a really nice fretless out of it for next to nothing. Steve
2. If small amps are required I can put a 60W Fender in, nice and compact and with a headphone socket.
3. I thought if we go for end of April sometime, not too close to the Northampton bash would be good, probably 26/27 or something, so we avoid Bank Holiday weekend as well. (although anytime is okay for me really) Steve
4. Any Clapton stuff is good, I am doing White Room, Bell Bottom Blues and Promises. I am also working from Ed Friedlands Walking Bass Lines and Bass Improvisation Books, and Stuart Claytons Bass Styles, plenty there to keep you practising. Steve
5. Of course
6.
I'm looking at a way of getting there, partly with a slightly ulterior motive: I have a Chapman Stick (10-string) I would like to sell. I've concluded that selling it will mean a trip to the UK anyway, since shipping from Ireland is expensive and risky. I'd like a trip to the UK anyway, and if I stay in Northampton I'll get a Saturday in London too. Would anyone be interested in taking a serious look at the Stick, if I bring it across? I'll post a note in the For Sale forum too, with photos (later). I'd prefer to carry it one-way only.
Hi Brian If you decide to come over and can get the first Ryanair to East Midlands on the Saturday, you can go to Northampton with me, and I am sure that there will be someone heading south to London after the bash who can help you. You might need to check that Ryanair are okay with the bass (they can be an odd lot), but if that works out you're welcome. Steve
7. Wonderful Tonight by Clapton is a nice one.
8. DHL will bring it all the way. as will UPS, but they may possibly ask for payment on delivery. Normally items like this are "cleared" after delivery, so you may just get a bill afterwards, or you may not get a bill at all. Best of Luck Steve
9. I would ask him to declare the bass as used with a value of say $ 50, if the courier company then adds the shipping costs you may have a total value of $150 in total, and assume something like 25% of the total in taxes, so $150 = say £75.00, at 25% = £18.75 if my mental arithmetic is correct. You may be lucky and get it in duty/tax free, either way it is not bad for a bass to start a restoration project which with some care and hard work may give you an excellent instrument. Steve
10. Hi Mickey Denmark is in the EU, so no documents required, just pack it up and call the courier, it should be 1-2 days. Steve
11.
May be a bit late to ask but is anyone going from Nottingham? Or Nottingham locale? I'd like to come but would need a lift to do so. So if anyone is feeling generous and has space for one + one bass that'd be much appreciated! Mark
Hi Mark I am going from Kegworth, with perhaps one other, but not confirmed, so you will be welcome to ride with me. Probably aim to be there 12ish or maybe earlier, so aiming to be about 11 from mine, let me know if that fits in. Steve
12.
I thought the inputs would be left and right? Is there anything similar to the guitar port for bassists?
The two leads would be left and right, but as it comes back through one speaker on the amp it removes the bass and leaves everything else. Works a treat.
13.
Anything I can do to help organise...
If anyone has ideas for a venue I don't mind helping get organised. Steve
14.
Freaky stuff, I got the check through this morning! They did not refund me the postal charges though. I will ring them and ask why. Perry
Hi Perry Somewhere in the Ts & Cs will be a clause which says something like "postal charges are deemed earned and are not refundable in any circumstances". Same applies to deep sea and airfreight. The only way to get it back is to insure the item seperately. (Oddly enough in deep sea shipment there is a thing called "General Average" where if the ship is involved in a collision and damaged the ship owner can claim the cost of repairs from the owners of all the cargo on board - imagine if Parcel Farce could do that if their van was in a bump). Steve
15.
Cheers guys - is there anything which does an effective job of removing the bass and not the drums?
Hi James My amp has a CD input (two sockets), I just pull out the bass side and lose the bass, and can hear everything else, then I can play the bass line to it. Steve
16. Like it says - everybody welcome.
17. Moondance is a good one, not too tricky.
18. Hi Hairy Welcome from a little bit further down the M1. The itch returned for me after about 30 years, loving it now. Welcome Steve
19.
Whilst they are in Europe, Switzerland are not in the EU, and so I think you will pay taxes.
+1
20. I have a small practice amp that might suit a beginner, I will bring it along, it can go in the pot or free to a good home. Steve
21.
Ahhh! Fender, you could buy one of those cold with out problems CIJ or MIA
I have a USA Std Jazz of 2005 vintage - bootiful, and not dead expensive second hand.
22. Hi John Seems to a few of us gathering around the area, we may even make an East Midlands bash before long. I got the Rumble 60, I am not one for all the effects and cables going everywhere, I like to just plug in (fender to fender) and play - works for me. Best of Luck Steve
23. I have a 2005 USA std Jazz with the switch, I have played some rock on it, no complaints, the S-1 makes the bottom end nice and "thuddy", worth it for my money.
24. Hi Happy Enjoy Leeds, Enjoy the forum, welcome Steve
25. I will bring a USA Jazz (2005), and a fretless P which started as a no name fretted and now has a Encore fretless neck. I am interested in whether this can be fitted with Fender PUPs, so maybe someone can advise me on that. I also have a Fender Combo which I can bring which has a headphone socket if anyone thnks it might be useful. Steve
