Excellent, not my bag but you can't fault the standard of musicianship and level of technical ability -
Some of the most talented Musicians are not the kind of people you would want to be in a band with. You will hear many pros say; "We never look for the best musicians, we look for the best people" Blue
True. Best drummer I ever jammed with was a very arrogant (and confident) guy! He was a jazz drummer and was really very very good, fitting exactly with what we were playing, but adding to the sound mix beautifully. He and our guitarist/songwriter/leader clashed so it was never going to work and he left. Before doing so we had a last jam with me, him and our lead guitarist (the band leader was absent) - we did a session just jamming as a blues trio and it was great - he made us sound great and he suggested we form a blues trio without the other guy. We turned him down but I often wonder what would have happened had we not done so... -
I messaged the guy and he's getting some more in next week....be interesting to see what he lists them at. If they are no too much cash I just know I'm gonna spring for one...I'm going to question him about packaging tho
The guitarist in my present band was once threatened with decapitation by a drummer he sacked. The same drummer ended up in my band and felt that I was sabotaging him. He really did have deep seated, psychological, problems, including psychotic delusions of persecution, for which he was taking medication. In the end he was sacked, onstage, in the middle of a gig. Not the most diplomatic way of doing things. Luckily he didn't kill us all. You never know who you are dealing with. Better safe than sorry. Being nice doesn't cost anything.
Sacked in the middle of a gig.......that's hardcore! Best defence against getting sacked....own the PA and drive a large comfortable van!....or so I'm told...I've never been sacked from a band cos I'm awesome and perfect -
Plyed through one of these at rehearsal tonight https://www.andertons.co.uk/ashdown-rootmaster-c115t-500-evo-500w-1-x-15-combo Very impressed with the sound allthough didn't get to push it and played with all the controls flat You need a head torch to see the control labels in anything but good light but apart from that it looks like a winner. Be an interesting comparison with a markbass combo We rehearse at Pirate Studios so you might come across one if you do to (there are a few dotted around the country). Given the retail I'm guessing that Ashdown have dished a few out at below cost to places like pirate. In case you haven't heard of Pirate Studios https://www.piratestudios.co.uk/ If it's still there next week I'll try and run it through it's paces and report back

comfortably numb was epic last night....mind you they saved it for the encore the little tinkers

Saw these guys at De Montfort Hall in Leicester last night. If you like Floyd I would advise catching these guys on their current tour if you can, the standard of musicianship was exceptional + the light show is fantastic. http://www.aussiefloyd.com/

There will always be dreamers, it comes with the territory. Joined my current band from an ad on JMB so it does work. Gumtree has a section, look for Music Bands & Musicians in the Community section. I've also used Bandmix and got an audition out of it - turned out not to be the band for me but it was a genuine ad. Then there's facebook groups where you often see posts for band members wanted. Postcards in local music/record shops is well worth a try imo.

Singing bassists, what's your set list?
ricksterphil replied to uk_lefty's topic in General Discussion
A few of the above. currently Jean Genie with my current band https://www.facebook.com/missbowieband/ and for open mic acoustic stuff I do 'Hit me baby one more time' ......usually goes down a storm (don't do the twerking tho') -
What if you agreed to do it but then pull out last min?
Gigus interuptus! -
Had a Sire v7 Jazz for a short while. It was a 5 string which I moved on becuase I couldn't get on with 5 strings - nothing to do with the bass itself. Build quality and sound is excellent for the money - knobs are a bit cheap feeling. Tuners were fine A lot of bass for the money and very well finished
-
Welcome! Nice gear list, some quality there! Basschat is a great forum and the various threads will keep you amused for hours. And then of course there's the time spent 'gassing' over gear you don't need but really really want! You'll end up poor (in both time and money) but happy after exposure to chatters. Or as my son likes to call it, 'that fish forum'

Yeurgh!

Sire 5 string - which I've just sold. Lovely bass, very well made and a great sound - I now know I don't do 5 strings. Just thinking about that big wide neck gives me nightmares!
I enjoy practicing, or at least getting together with the band and making music. We're a covers band and as long as we have new material on the go its generally good fun. I like gigging too. Playing to an enthusiatic crowd is a great buzz. Whether the arse ache of actually getting the gigs, setting up, stripping down and everything that goes with it is worthwhile ........ The money is irrelevant and barely covers costs. Everyone in the band agrees we do not want to be gigging every week. Our ideal schedule would be 10-12 gigs a year. If I was doing originals I'd probably gig even less.
I like practicing, but find it more fun when I'm working towards something for a gig. Gigging is great - don't much like the strip down afterwards but it's better than sitting at home watching dross on the telly
