Rickenbacker Bass Gets Outed For What It Is
ricksterphil replied to hiram.k.hackenbacker's topic in General Discussion
A long time ago in a land far, far away (well Shropshire in fact) I had a lovely black Rick 4001 with the rare checkered binding....flogged it for £275 in the very early eighties. To me it was awesome but I didn't have much experience of basses then. Wish I still had it...along with the Matamp 100w head (stuffed with Mullards) I played it through...I seem to remember swapping that for a Peavey Black Widow combo. Should you be passing through my patch (Nottingham) and hear sighing, wailing and gnashing of teeth, that's me thinking about my old Rickenbacker! Enjoyed watching Dave's vid so thanks for posting -
Sold a bass to Mark, straightforward no fuss deal - thanks for the buying the bass Mark...enjoy!

Hello all For sale is a Rodenberg GAS-728B +NG This is a combi overdrive and clean boost pedal. There are a big range of boosts + overdrives available I've never spent the time getting to grips with it tbh. It's very well built however. Has velcro on the bottom but other than that is in A1 condition. It is effectively two pedals in 1 box Here's what it says on the Rodenberg website https://www.rodenber...eng/gas728b.htm Bass Direct have them list at £209 £100 including UK postage

Is there another Bass Selling Market better than BassChat.?
ricksterphil replied to bubinga5's topic in General Discussion
eBay is best for picking stuff up on the cheap if you're prepared to wait, but it's also ok for me for selling stuff, just need to be very accurate about descriptions. I've found Facebook very good for selling pedals and also cheaper guitars. Never had much luck selling on Gumtree, but have bought a few things. I've bought and sold gear and basses on here and never had any problems...and met some nice people along the way. -
Buying a new bass with a budget of £1150
ricksterphil replied to Jaykingfunk's topic in Bass Guitars
Can't go far wrong with a Sandberg I reckon, I have a Classic TM4 and it's uber. Fender Road Worn Jazz's get good reviews and can be had for £700 if you wait for one to come up -
I think some people will notice and some people won't (both small and large mistakes). Some people in the crowd have a good ear and others don't. That said, the 'we are/I am good enough' mentality is very dangerous to have - and that's not just relative to technical performance. A musician (hobbyist or professional) should always be looking for ways to improve something. For eg, I play bass in a band and practice often, but I'm also invested in thinking of better setlists, ways to enhance the stage performance, marketing ideas, shirt designs, how to best approach fans after the show, and finding good people to surround the band with. I agree with Blue (as I understand him) that despite what people do or don't notice, it'll only help you if your standards are much higher than they 'need' to be.
Amen to that..as in this
We have done weddings on request only. We have done corporate/functions shows and we get our share of festival and fair business. We're playing the Washington County Fair this weekend. We're primarily a "down & dirty" bar band IMO. It's where we're most comfortable. Blue
Cool T-Bird Blue.....one of those is defo on my 'must own one day' list
We will often see comments here on bass chat pushing the idea that punters don't notice the flaws in our shows. I recently saw 2 pro level shows, Ann Wilson from Heart & Peter Frampton. Both shows were outstanding. Production and the caliber of musicianship was outstanding. Do you think they got to that level of performance with a "punters can't tell the difference" attitude? My point, none of us should use this "punters can't tell the difference" as an excuse for "shoddy" performances. Blue
To get back to the OP's starting point, I once saw Gladys Knight & The Pips do a show at the local theatre. They were only onstage for about 45 minutes, but boy did they put on a show. Imagine how many times they've sung those songs and danced those moves. Not even a hint of 'dailing it in'. In our band we work to get it right, think about set lists, rehearse new stuff diligently, listen back to rehearsal recordings to see what we can improve on etc. But if we make a fubar on the night, we try not to worry too much about it. I heard a quote from Yehudi Menuhin which went something like If I miss one practice session, I notice If I miss 1 day, the orchestra notices If I miss a week, the audience notices

Unless there is a specific need for overdrive, fuzz or whatever, I just use a tone I'm happy with and don't worry too much about originality.

Online is where I buy, but if it's expensive gear or guitars I go and collect it in person if I can, just in case.

I get to sing lead vocal on Jean Genie......I was stitched up by our singer. So I just flap my hands and hope no-one notices the bum notes. We decided to play G A G in our version.
