Hi Paul I'm in Nottingham and work in Hucknall...which is near-ish to Ilkeston. Surprising how many local-to-you BC'ers there are +1 on what Marc S says.....

Looks like there's already a decent bridge on those, so pickups will make the most difference so it's a question of picking from the range of specialist brands - Lindy Fralin, Lollar, Nordstrand, Seymour Duncan etc - Getting a KIogon wiring kit is a good place to start as you will be able to swap pickups without soldering.

Playing the riff (it IS GAG but either works) and singing the verse is a challenge. No wonder our vocalist suggested I sing the lead on this one! We very nearly called our band Jane Genie as our singer is called Jane

Can't help you as I am a creative desert.....but I find I'm quite good at working on other's material with them to improve it. You could try taking some of your existing material, or just songs you like and creating new arrangements, tempos, keys etc...that might help? I've heard lots of writers, songwriters, etc say they are never far from a recording device so they can hum a tune that's just popped into their head and come back to it later....hope that helps. The song I wish I'd written is 'Beautiful' sung by Christina Aguilera, written by Linda Perry......gorgeous song...and gorgeous singer

Just picked up one of these off of ebay for £45 A great multi-purpose amp which will take xlr and jack inputs, has 5 channels, some built in effects and is built like a tank I'll be using mine for the acoustic stuff I do and for open mic nights and gigs in small pubs etc If you spot one for sale and need something versatile, you could do worse https://www.amazon.co.uk/Laney-AH200-Audiohub-Amplifier-x/dp/B000S6G94M
As regards acoustic guitars I'd recommend only one and not just because they're hand made in my home town here in N.Ireland but because they're perfect. The name? Lowden.Absolute perfection.
You won't get one for £500 though!
Yep i know as that's how i've always played it but Trevor shows you how he played it on the VID i posted around 54mins into VID. Tried it his way and it never sounds right but as many have quoted above just play it how you think it should be played as most won't notice the diff. Dave
Agreed. G# A G#.
Sure no problem. I've recently changed my set up and at the moment I'm using a Darkglass 900 head with the B3K switched on. It can produce a nice mildly distorted overdriven effect. I also use that combined with a Cog Custom Grand Tarkin Bass Fuzz for Fame so that the bass pretty much owns the space in that song.
Thanks for this, is your bass active or passive....seems to make a lot of difference to some pedals I've tried.
Ah thanks. Very kind of you. I domlove a nice hat
Can I ask what pedals you're using, particularly to reproduce Trevor B's overdriven EB3 sound? I too am in a Bowie Tribute band. I've got a couple - Triton-labs Dual fet, a Rodenberg gas dual something. I've also tried a Lehle Baswitch sonic spark

A very interesting thread this. I've realised I'm not a smiler and have a facial expression while playing which is a cross between Larry Grayson and a constipated goat! Note to self...smile a bit more!

Why can't singers sing in the original key?
ricksterphil replied to la bam's topic in General Discussion
I realise there are exceptions, Daltry and Jagger etc, but Macca isn't one of them, it's painful to hear him trying to hit the high notes these days
I think Daltry is struggling too...mind you a lot of WHO songs are very high and hard to sing and hard to transpose without tuning down a semi-tone. Jagger seems to be as good as he always was (maybe better?) -
Great thanks..now Ive got to learn it, your fault!
You'll be thanking me....it's a peach. I play the opening 8 bars at the 12th fret if that's any help
