I'm pretty sure that some of the DHA pedals will do this for you.
Correct HJ. The VT1-EQ-Bass-Drive and VT2-Twin-EQ-Bass are designed to do this. But maybe not everyone wants a valve as a pre-amp so I have been thinking of doing a SS pre-amp for sometime now. It could be used with other pedals or standalone with a line and XLR balanced out, 3 band active EQ plus mid band Q and maybe a headphone amp and line in for home use without an amp. Maybe one version could have a tuner mute as well? Battery and power supply connections and in as small a box as possible. Anyone interested? Another product I have been thinking of would be the above but with a few FX loops as well, maybe with wet/dry blends. 9 and 12V outs some nice lights for levels, etc. A sort of pedal board interface if you like.
found pics of my old Alembic pre amp , really regret selling it ! Anyway I was wondering how much it would cost to get a copy built for me..... with maybe an effects loop for my noisey old chorus pedal.
I would not have the time but I might know someone who could do it. One off's will be a lot!
I seem to be having difficulties with the high end volume on my Amp/Cab...The amp is an Aguilar 500sc and the cab is a agy 212..I used to think it was one of my basses, but it seems to do it with every bass.. .For example last night on a Stingray5 i was playing with everything dialled in to the middle. i was getting loads of punch from notes on the B E and A string but when i play up high it just seems to loose volume and its really frustrating..I know its not the strings choking, the tweeter dial on the back of the cab is on full the mids and treble on the Amp are up.. Its like there is a limiter on the amp stopping the highs from being played loud I really can not work out what is going on..I want the same volume across all of the strings...It might be something really obvious but i cant see it? Any help much appreciated..
Did you try your basses on another rig? This would tell you if its a bass set up issue or your rig. Try the amp with a different cab, once again this will tell you if it's the amp or cab at fault. Is it you? Do others hear the same thing? Have you tried using a compressor or an EQ pedal/rack?
I WANT!! Looking nice!! I really wanna try one out!! Where can I try one?
Trying one is always an issue with my products as I only build to order and this is a new model so there are very few out there. I don't deal via shops as they require such a high mark-up. All I can say is read the various reviews and comments on this and other sites as all my valve based pedals have the same basic tone. The VT2-Twin-EQ-Bass has the 2 channnels and the Blue channel is the same as the VT1-EQ-Bass-Drive and the Red channel is also a VT1-EQ but with an extra gain stage. There are lots of VT1-EQ-Bass-Drives out there as it's my best selling valve pedal. Dave

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/DHA-VT2-Twin-EQ-Bass...%3A1%7C294%3A50 Offer of £200 still stands for another 2-3 weeks or until the remaining of the the first 5 off are sold. Dave
The first few are out there now but I still have 2 at the offer price. I am thinking of doing a reduced feature "Std" version of this pedal. Would lose the headphone amp, line in, boost and bright switches. But not sure about the DI. The target price would be below £200 where as the "custom shop" version as shown here will be £250. What do you guys think? Is the DI a must? Dave
Hi Dave I've hardly used this since I bought it, but dug it out again today to try with a new amp. (The serial number is 216). Do you roll off the treble on these? I do notice that there is a fair bit more top in the signal in bypass mode. Is there a component, or components I could change to get my treble back? I have full access to electronic rework kit incl. surface mount. Cheers Jules
I have added a bright switch to the design. If yours is pre-bright switch mod then that will do it. Just add a 470pF ceramic cap across the level pot with a switch if you want. Depends on how old the PCB is but there might be a position marked "bright" anyway. Or just wire to the LHS and middle of the level pot, RHS is gnd.
I just tried my Maplin PSU and the switchable dial seemed to have a dead spot near 12V where the LED just didn't come on. Moved it a bit either side and bingo!
Good news.
I have the above amp, when the volume is turned down and i'm setting the peak gain level i hear a faint distorted signal when i pluck a string. It goes when i turn the volume up.I can also hear when i plug my lead in with the standby on[i.e.blue light off]?Shouldn't do these things.... any ideas? cheers Rod
leakage via the power supply nothing to worry about.

VT1-EQ-BASS DRIVE - Trimpot? and headroom question.
DHA replied to jasperok's topic in Repairs and Technical
Hi I am just looking for advice on how to optimise the clean headroom from this pedal. Also there is a trimpot in side - I am rluctant to adjust it until i know for sure its meant to be adjusted? Thanks
The trimpot sets the EQ level. It's fine to adjust it. The boost switch is there to help with clean headroom. -
slightly OT, but would it damage an amp to have it running through a normal combo? I mean sureley then you have BASS -->FX --> DHA (a preamp) --> PREAMP ON AMP --> POWERAMP ON AMP ??
You would just set the levels lower.
-
Just ou of curiosity really it has a DI XLR out and a line out with level control so iwould presume it could. would prefer to save the xlr DI out for the desk but i guess if i had to i could run the line out into a DI box and feed that to the desk. More importantly i guess, technicly is it a recomended way of doing things or are there reaosn you "should" run through a preamp after this beofre a power section. At the end of the day - ears will tell all i need to know - but interested to know if people think this is a good solution? Reason being i have a qsc rmx850 and if it meant i could give up the carlsoboro combo and start using my markbass 210 and ampeg 15 cabs i'd be a happy bunny! there's plenty of tone shaping in the vt1 eq so hopefuly should be able to dial in a good sound only thing is in that situation i'll HAVE to ru: BASS - COMP PEDAL - DISTORTION PEDAL - VT1 EQ - POWERAMP any thoughts?
Yes it will and is designed to do so. The DI out is balanced so therefore the best option but the line out will also work but you may need to apply the boost switch to get the line level required.
Please send it back for repair.
It would still work if an e-bomb had gone off as they don't bust valves just solid state. Now theres a selling point
-
Please send it back for repair.
before you send it back, you did check it with an amp and bass right? If not then it might just be the led, unlikely but could happen. Does the valve get warm?
Yeah, tried the footswitch. Nothing doing. What's wierd is that the switchable PSU is duff (the light doesn't come on). I then buy a new PSU, 12v DC (500mA) and that seems duff too. Either that or the pedal's bust whilst sat in a drawer, in a padded bag, inside a cardboard box, in the spare room. Even if it's just the pedal, why would the switchable PSU not work either? I've tried it in different sockets, upstairs and down. Did someone let off an e-bomb in my spare room?
Please send it back for repair.
The pedal should light up if it's plugged into a power supply even if there are no guitar leads plugged in. Yes the power supply light should come on if it's not plugged in. If the power supply light is not on with the pedal not plugged in then it's duff. Make sure the power supply is switched to 12VDC and has at least 400mA current. Dave
One more thing. As it's a Std then the pedal only lights the valve up with the backlight when the pedal is not in by-pass, ie - on. Did you try the footswitch?
-
Ok. I've tried it both ways around and nothing happens either way. Do I need to have a bass and amp plugged in to get it to light up? I can't remember... I don't have enough leads at the moment, they're all bust / lost. Some will hopefully arrive through the post today. Would the pedal light up if the valve has gone (though I wouldn't have a clue why it would have, the pedal's been sat in a cupboard drawer packed in a box for the last year). Also - on the switchable maplin PSUs, should the red light on the transformer come on when it's plugged in, or does current need to be drawn for it to light up? I can't remember that either! Cheers John
Dave
Hiya, I've hardly used this since I bought it. Probably 3-4 hours since I bought it last May 08. I plugged it in the other day. nothing doing. I noticed the power light on the psu also didn't work. I thought the psu must be bust. I bought another whilst in maplin yesterday. The straight non-switchable 12v DC one. This doesn't power up the pedal either. Any idea? Cheers John
Power supply connector is centre positive, you may have it the other way round. No harm done if you have.
Probably because this is likely more intended for problems with Dave's gear.
Its really about anyones gear, amps and pedals that is. But not sure how to answer this one as I would agree that the amp should work with anyones cabs as long as the impedence is okay. But the manufacturer is the expert on their own gear and I can't be used as a stick to beat them up.

70's Morley pro flanger (Mains operated)
Hi There, Just managed to secure myself a used VT1-EQ Bass driver from this site. Haven't got my hands on it yet, but in anticipation, was wondering what is the best way to use it? I will be running it through my LM II. My thinking is to run it into the FX return and miss out the LM II pre-amp altogether. I'm not looking to overdrive my sound to any real degree, just looking to fatten it up and get some valve warmth. I've already ordered a Mullard ECC81 to replace the standard ECC83 as I know this will reduce the gain and hopefully make things even smoother and warmer. Am I heading in the right direction? Any other Suggestions? Cheers, Mario.
Lots of guys run them this way which is really just using it as a valve pre-amp. ECC81 is a good move. Dave
Thanks, I had seen that already and imagined that it didn't apply as much as it mentions a lot more knobs than I've got. Well the psu works fine - no hum. It isn't a great fit, slightly on the loose side but it didn't fall out at all the whole time I've been playing with it over the last few hours. First impressions leave me firmly on the fence as to whether this is the pedal for me though. I been using my Tech 21 VT Bass but found it a little too bright sounding with my LMII/Schroeder rig and the grit a little too much in your face. The VT-1 Purist is the opposite. Although it has just the right amount of grit I'm after, it also adds too much warmth. I must admit that if played with a pick this is alleviated and the top end crunch shines through - alas I play finger style. It doesn't seem to agree with the active mode on my bass (OPB3) which has a thicker sound but sounds best switched to passive (Lindy Fralin Jazzes) - normally it's the other way round. What I'm after is my usual killer sound for some songs but then some added grit without straying away too much from the original sound for others. I also want a late night knock at the door from Kelly Brook but that ain't gonna happen either. I need to play with it more and explore more settings.
The latest models have a bright switch and an i/p pad which would fix the things you speak of. I am always developing new models or adding features to old ones after hearing useful comments on forums such as this one.
Ah right, thanks. It didn't come with a manual obviously so I'm just winging it with the bits n bobs I've read on here. I'll chance it and let you know the out come. Cheers.
Download the manual for a MK3 or Std from the website - www.davehallamps.co.uk
I'm really itching to play through it. Maplins is about 15 minutes away from me can you please let me know if the N12GN would be ok Dave?
Only just picked this up. It might be okay. The issue is not the current but the regulation, poor regulation and it will hum. The recommend supply is known to be almost hum free. No harm in trying it other than the cost. Dave
I have the privilege (I hope) of winning this VT1 on the bayzers. It doesn't come with a psu though. Does this little guy look ok?
Hi, Don't make them anymore but a good pedal, I use one on my board. We recommend the Maplin L49BR power supply. Dave
