1.
Hi, My Hiwatt 200W Valve Head has just blown a Valve ( a crack has appeared around the glass on one of the KT 88 Valves ) It blew the mains fuse ( which I assume it should do ) . My question is .........I have just bought a set of 4 matched Electro Harmonix KT 88 valves ( the original valves have been in there for at least 3 years, so they must be getting "worn out " ), do I need to get them re-biased, or because they are a matched set of 4 just plug and play ? Any info would be appreciated......... Pete
It will need rebiasing. The matching is saying that all four new valves are matched (which they need to be) but the amps bias current needs to be set to work correctly with them.

Had a good one last year but then he moved away so started looking again, nothing then 2 contacted us and 3 if you are interested as well? Me and the Singer are in Dolton, Keys in Barnstable, Drummer in Hatherleigh. give me a ring if you are interested. Dave
 5.
Ok thank you for those quick answer you're really great ! I'll try this evening if it works, I'll drink a great beer to you !
Did it work?
 6.
oh no of course I'm not disgusted about you (you offer me you service as soon as you could) and neither your preamp (I've not tryed it yet) but because of the seller which send me the preamp with a very badly done parcel and does'nt answer to my mails now. to every one here NEVER BUY ANYTHING from the member "UBERKATE" I'm really wondering if she didn't send me an already broken preamp. I understood that you can't give me a price but do you think it would be about 10, 100, 200, 300€ (sorry french guys speak in €) tell me in £ I'll make the conversion as well. cause the biggest problem is that I must send it to you so it will be expensive just to ship near 80£ could you show me on this photo which output should I used to plug to the power amp ? is it the first one the left ? oh I begin to think that I'm idiot I plugged it with the send jack as I 've always plugged my preamp ... I'll try tonight when home my headphones is a stereo one that was just for a test, if the headphones output doesn't work it doesn't matter. thanks a lot for your help, I'm really happy to have bought your work ... be sure of it ... I'll be more when it works.
yes, use the 1/4" jack marked main on the left. The two others marked red and blue should also work but will not switch between the red and blue channels like the main. The FX send is for effects.
 7.
it begins to smell very bad for me. I have change the bypass switch, it seems work now I used the send jack to plug to my amp : and the result isn't very good : when I move any pots the sound doesn't change anymore ... So I tryed the headphone output and it begun to smoke in the preamp So I really don't know what to do now ...
do you mean the FX send or the main out? if its the FX send then only the i/p pad will have an effect as you by-pass all the other controls. The main out is the one that should be used to go to the amp. What did you plug into the headphone socket? If you plugged a mono jack into it to drive the amp then that might be the problem. It's meant for stereo headphones and a mono jack will short the left side to ground, not good. May only be the headphone amp that is damaged.
 8.
do you have an idea of the price cause it will cost me the repair and the shipping costs. the total may be more expensive than a new, I'm disgusted.
can't give a price until I see it, but it won't be more than new. I hope you are not saying you are disgusted with me or the VT3? You purchased it second hand and it was damaged in the post and I offered to repair it for you then. You did it yourself to save money and now you are disgusted?

 10.
Dave, it's the only pedal I have. What else could I try ?
tuner?
 11.
Dave, I've been a member for a while, and not asked you before, so here goes. I have a Genz Benz shuttle 6, and have recently bought a Soundblox Pro distortion pedal. Once the GB warms up, say 5 seconds, it produces a Morse Code type noise through the speaker. This happens with the pedal connected before the amp or through the effects loop. ( with the latter, it even makes the noise with the amp on mute. ) I've tried it with a different amp ( a Marshall lead guitar combo ) and this works fine. Is it something to do with the GB digital ? power supply is has instead of a transformer ? Escholl has suggested a few things, including the power supply I am using, which is the included 2 pin with a uk adaptor. Any ideas please ? Richard
first idea would be to agree with Escholl and say the power supply. But if that was the case then it should be the same with the Marshall. So maybe its an earth problem. try putting a different pedal between them, anything will do its just an idea to check something out. Dave
 12.
ok i understand, i'va replaced the switch it seems to be ok but could you send me the manual cause don't understand how everything work, and i may have to change the valve i'll see ... thanks
will need your email address before I can mail the manual and what model is it? what is the serial number?
 13.
could you send me the schemas to repair it here and the manual please ? I've forgot to say that I'm in France. I could open it and send you photos but I won't open until I have no news from the seller, cause I won't pay the reparation if not guily of the degradation.
don't send out diagrams
 14.
Which Pickups for my MIM Fender Jazz 5 string Bass. I play mostly, Gospel, R&B and Hip Hop Styles so looking for the right sound. I'm thinking EMG or Seymour Duncan Can you help? Gee
not really my thing, more amps and pedals. But someone will know and chip in soon.
 15.
Hi I'm really sad cause I received yesterday an used DHA VT3 Bass preamp (bought on this forum), unfortunately it have been chocked during the trip ... the faceplate is twisted and the bypass has been pushed in the preamp, and I also fear that the valves may be out of order too. can it be repaired ? must I open the preamp ? I have mailed this morning the seller but I have no more news from him yet, the carrier does'nt want to know anything. I paid via paypal maybe they will repay me ... I hope so ! And I would also a manual to use it (when repaired) bcause it seems a bit complicated. thanks
Happy to repair it if returned here. will give you costs before I start.
 16.
Hi, I ve just picked up a '77 Gibbo RD that has been in the same room as a smoker for years. The Head stock badge has"browned" as has the knob numbers. What you suggest I clean it with Body and neck. And also The Moog circuits are fine but I was after some diagrams Just in case. Ta V much.
wrong thread, this is amps and effects, sorry
 17.
Hi all I have various amp heads with two speaker out sockets. I also have a Trace Elliot 2x10 8ohm cab & an Ampeg 1x15 8ohm cab. Both of the cabs have two jack connections. With my Laney DP150 (which has a minimum 4ohm impedence) I usually connect one of the speaker outputs to the Trace cab & then link my Ampeg cab to the 2nd connector on the Trace cab (I'm not an electronics expert but is cabling it this way wiring in series?). The reason I do this is that the output volume seems to be higher this way rather than cabling to each of the outputs on the amp. I'm wondering now though whether I will cause any damage doing this as when I've tried it with my Marshall 3530 head (also minimum 4ohm) I experienced the sound breaking up then cutting out completely after a few minutes. This happened a couple of times & I assumed at the time that the amp had a problem. Have I damaged the Marshall doing this, if so, is it because I've gone lower than the minimum impedence? Any help or advice would be much appreciated. Cheers Tazza
Does not sound like you are doing anything wrong and maybe the problem with the Marshall is something else.
 18.
Cool. Ya, that's the one I meant alright:) I'd imagine with the overdrive + distortion modes you'd be able to get most dirty tones you'd need. I think i'll get the custom version from you in a few weeks. How much would shipping be to Ireland? Cheers, John
Shipping to Ireland is £14.98
 19.
Thanks for the quick reply Dave. Would any of the bass VH2 pedals be suitable or would you recommend one over another? Can you get the same core sound with all 3 of them? Cheers, John
Do you mean VT2? Same applies, pick the bass version if you want it for guitar as well. All my pedals have the same core sound. Dave
 20.
Hi Dave, A quick question for you. I'm gonna get a single ended low watt valve amp for guitar soon and I'm looking for a pedal that'll pump a good bit of gain through it. Think tubescreamer but for metal as well as rock. I was just wondering if you had a pedal that could throw a lot of gain into a small valve amp and could then be used to dirty up a valve pre based bass amp with the flick of a switch. Not sure if such a pedal would be practical for you but I was wondering if such a thing existed. Thanks for your time, John
I do build guitar and bass versions of all my pedals but the answer is simple. The bass versions work very well with both guitar and bass but the guitar versions are lose bottom end for bass. So, if you want one pedal for both then pick a bass version and adjust the EQ and apply the bright switch for guitar.
 21.
Ok this may seem silly but iw as looking at a DHA vt2 twin eq on ebay and i was thinking why do you have one switch to turn it on and only one switch to select the blue and red channels. would it be possible to have the switches like this one for the red channel and one for the blue?
one switch is by-pass the other toggles between red and blue. so in affect you have 3 settings.
 22.
Hi there, Just bought a VT3 preamp and I don't have much idea on how to work it. Is there a manual available for this?
Yes, pm me with the serial number and your email address Dave
 23.
Ah thanks! Looks like it can't be done then. The amp does have another input on the front panel, a balanced xlr one, sadly the drum machine has a standard 1/4 inc jack so that looks like a no no either.
A XLR to 1/4" jack cable will work.
 24.
My Mark Bass amp only has a send / return for effects, now I don't use any except for a compressor which I plug in line, I would like to feed a drum machine through the amp can I use the return input? Thanks
if you just plug into the return then most likely you will cut off the bass signal unless there is a blend control.
 25.
As above, is there a mod I can do? I'm thinking a capacitor across the switch? I'm fine at soldering & doing the job but wouldn't dream of trying it without knowing what value & where the cap should go exactly, for obvious reasons! I remember using a 'PMR' in the past, was that a capacitor & resistor encapsulated in a package? Is that what I need? Cheers, John
Don't think it will be the switch but I would not recommend trying to mask a fault with a modification. Best to find out why there is a problem and fix it. putting a cap across the AC mains may well result in an exploding cap, loss of an eye, etc. Cap and resistors are used on the DC side of the power supplies, never AC.
